The clarification is coming on the heels of the Commission’s liking of a tweet by Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, calling his counterpart in the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, an opportunist.
Sowore had in a tweet called Obi an opportunist who fell in love with President Muhammadu Buhari, (who he also described as wicked and incompetent) because of the Naira redesign policy.
He also said Obi believed the policy would confer undue advantage on his campaign and the tweet was liked by the INEC Twitter handle, sparking controversy....
However, the INEC has come out to make clarification surrounding the controversy. It issued a statement on its Twitter handle on Wednesday.
It wrote, “The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a post on its Twitter handle, liking a post relating to one of the 18 Presidential candidates.
“The Commission is an independent electoral body and does not have preference for any candidate or political party. The Commission assures all Nigerians of its neutrality and will conduct a general election that is free and fair to all. The allegiance of the Commission is to the people of Nigeria.
“In the meantime, the Commission is investigating the circumstances that led to the liking of the said post and will take appropriate disciplinary actions if an infraction is established.”

Was it Sowore that tweeted the 'opportunist' thing? I thought it was said to be Seun Kuti that resulted to the verbal attacks between him and Peter Okoye.
ReplyDeleteINEC shouldn't give us a reason to feel they've been compromised or partisan. They should live by the ethics and standard of neutrality if at all they have ever been.
It's too low from them.
Na today.........e don tey.......
DeleteINEC twitter handler liked the post. A twitter handler that is not part of decision making. It wasn't liked by INEC chairman, not by any of the national commissioners, not by any the 36 states and Abuja resident commissioners. It shouldn't even be a news item, if not for Punch newspapers that like amplifying all sorts of nonsense.
DeleteSwore called Obi an opportunist because he came out to support the CBN redesign policy. A man that has never seen any good about the administration of Buhari came to support a policy that has caused massive suffering for the mass of the Nigerian people because he believes he can benefit from the suffering and anger of Nigerians
Anon 13:01 it's called independent electoral commission and it should not be partisan as a body. You are only okay with it because you do not support Obi, let's learn to stand on the truth no matter the direction it's coming from. That's the only way Nigeria can ever be great again
DeleteIt's Seun Kuti that twitted it.
ReplyDeleteVery irresponsible INEC handler.

ReplyDeleteLol INEC is not backing anyone up but MU OLUOMO is providing them with vehicles to use in Lagos State on Election Day 🤣🤣🤣🤣 IRONY and SATIRICAL
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile Seun should please go and sit somewhere. He is trying to give us an impression that Atiku, Obi n BAT are the same because of a picture that was posted showing them laughing together. Seun, I won’t vote you if your mind believes that because your competitors are evil, you should bone face around them and ignore them in public. My brother, that means you also, is not a good person. Them say if you want to know one’s heart, take a good look at their face. I’m sorry, I used to really like you but for this, I’m disappointed.
ReplyDeleteLaugh with your enemies and done with them with a long, very long spoon. One love bro 😎
That handler should be sacked or redeployed
