Actress Joke Silva Says She Has Gotten To A Place Of Acceptance With Hubby Olu Jacobs Dementia

Veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, has said that she has reached a ‘place of acceptance’ with respect to the ailment that her husband, Olu Jacobs, is battling with.

She made this known in an episode of colleague Mercy Johnson-Okojie's cooking series on Thursday.

When asked how she has been coping with her husband, Olu Jacobs' ailment, Silva responded “Well, I think for me, it was getting to the place of acceptance. Sometimes when a partner starts exhibiting some things, there will be the religious side… all these prayers and things.

“There are also other sides that will say, ‘oh, if you use all these natural herbs and the natural this and the organic that’, and you’re doing everything that you’re being told to do and there is no change. It is almost like the patient is getting worse, you know."

“But when you get to the stage of acceptance that this is your new reality, honestly it’s so much easier, it’s so much easier. You realise this is the new season, this is your new reality. So, you’re walking with your partner and you meet them where they are wherever they are, you just meet them there. It’s so much easier," she added.

She revealed that her husband was suffering from dementia in November 2021.

  1. This is the best stage. Acceptance!
You will stop running around wasting money, stressing yoursef for remedies when it is clearly untreatable. When you reach this stage, you adjust your life to suit it, you have peace.
More strength I wish you ma Joke Silva

  3. Mama, may God give you the patience to be there for him at this time. That's the thing about marriage - gotta be there for your spouse in sickness and in health. God please, heal Mr Olu Jacob. 🙏

    1. That's why I pity husbands that treat their wives bad at their young age, when you reach that old age, some women pay back. Guys think again how you treat your wife.

  4. Thanks and well done ma for taking good care of him.Living with a person with Demetia is really hard and tasking. Watching your hitherto cognitively aware loved one struggle with a loss of cognition is so disheartening.

Yes,accepting the new individual is so key. That was the first thing my sibling told me when our mum was diagnosed.I took care of her for some years before she transitted. She lived with me all through.

Till now,I haven't gotten over the trauma and pain but I accepted ,went through it with her till her last breath.

May God continue to strengthen you and everyone caring for a medically challenged person .

  10. This is the evolution of the love journey. Going through the days that nobody dreamed or hoped for, but standing to the challenge in love fearlessly. It is good to have a spouse who loves and adore you to ensure you are well cared for in the days you cannot care for yourself. All the best to you Ajoke, may you find the strength in your time of weakness and remember the happy times when your hope is tested. I will always remember Olu for his impeccable acting skills and his beautiful voice. He is still the best voice in Nollywood. A legend whose legacy cannot be dimmed by any illness. Peace and love to you both❤
