Big Brother Star Mercy Talks About The Stigma On Successful Women And Denies Money Laundering Allegations

Reality Star, Mercy Eke had a talk with Chude Jideonwo, host of TV show, #WithChude and she addressed accusations heaped on her head and the stigma successful women face in Nigeria....

On her choice to respond to the blogger who claimed she slept with Businessman IVD

“This blogger has been on my case since forever. This person has tarnished my image more than anything, and I have never responded. This started when I was in the house. When this whole thing started, I saw that one of my fans released something where this blogger asked for 200,000 naira, and they did not give the person. And the blogger vowed that he or she will deal with me. But now, I am not in the house, you can’t deal with me based on whoever was handling my page.

I didn’t even know about it because, they cleaned it up. When they handed over my phone to me, I didn’t see a lot of things, so I couldn’t pay for what I did not know. And since then, I have not rested.

There is no story that this blogger has not involved me, till that one, I won’t respond. But this one, someone died, there is a case of domestic violence, and I know this woman, we are friends. Then something that I know nothing about, you just brought my name out of nowhere and say that I am sleeping with this person”.

“That is the first and last time, I am going to respond to something, but I needed to respond to that one.

Mercy also shared her thoughts about Phyna being the second woman to win the Big Brother reality TV show.

“Honestly speaking, I have been waiting on someone to take on that role, let that pressure move, I want to rest. I want another person to come and take it, let the blogs focus on this person. Because I know when someone comes, at least I will rest.

She also reacted to the stigma successful women have to deal with

“It is very offensive. I feel that it is taking away all the efforts, the sleepless night, all the hard work we women put to get together where we are. They will just take away all effort and tag it as someone is behind you. I am not saying it is bad to have someone behind, if you have a rich boyfriend, some people’s love language might be taking care of you, buying you nice things, and giving you money. However, you will still work hard. They said I do money laundering; they have dealt with me in this industry. I came into this industry without no advice, just myself and my team and I started building brand.

On her motivation to be in the Big Brother house

“I auditioned four times. I just have that voice in me that says, ‘this is where you will make it’. So, each year when they say, ‘‘try again next year’. I still have that thing in my head that, ‘Okay, I will try’. Back then it was just to be famous”.

    1. You are frothing at the bit to prove what? That women sleep with men for money? So much anger in your comment for something that doesn’t matter at all to you. Go eat something.

    2. Anon 9;28! Not all women sleep with men for money! stop trying to play dumb! There are real hardworking ladies out there okay! not low budget, putting pressure on both men and women, making them believe they are trying enough! local mongrel!

    3. No anon 9:28, and i’m not the first anon, this ur comment reeks of applauding ill gotten wealth, and that is why daily, young girls go into runs or date yahoo boys. Since you are defending Mercy Eke, you have not answered any of the valid questions the first anon raised. What is her source of wealth? What work does she do?
And no, the society does not stigmatize successful women. I did not see anybody stigmatizing Genevieve Nnaji, Ngozi Okonji N, Funke Akindele etc.
And yes it concerns all of us, because she is a public figure and she is contributing to the moral decadence in our society.
NB: not everybody that says the truth is hungry as u suggested in ur comment.

    4. 11.03, you guys pick and choose whom to respect that's ok. Last I checked one of the names you mentioned has always been tied to someone and how she benefitted hugely from that association how about that? If you are truly objective and fair, that name should not have made the list. You choose not to believe her own rumour but choose to belive mercy's right ?Your last paragraph, how are public figures to be held responsible for anyone's moral failures? Who made them czar of morality? Abeg if una wan para just para and leave adults to live their lives anyway they choose to. Even if the Lord Jesus came to dwell with us in Nigeria, you and many others like you will still have something to complain about. She owes no one nothing talk more of being a morality model. Don't give people cross they cannot carry because they are "public figures" my foot.

    2. No Eka, u goofed on this one, Mercy is not intelligent most of the time, Mercy doesn’t look decent most of the time. Blings, yes! But class and decency, zero! Remember, no matter how you like sm1, the best thing you can do for them is tell them the truth. Also remember you are raising a baby girl, we all want things to change, and hopefully, when we learn to say the truth no matter whose ox is gored, things will eventually get better. For all of us.

    3. Anon 11:45, no she did not. You are the one who goofed. Let us concentrate on this particular post. Her answer are on point. If your favorites said these same lines with the "fake accents" that you like everyone will be reeking of praises. Except you are an mgbeke, Mercy is a dresser any day take that one from me. Then how are you as a parent if you are one let your child look to someone else as a role model that makes you the greatest failure. And what has Eka raising a girl child got to do with Mercy? That right there is unintelligent and out of line. So you see how unintelligent you sound at this time.

    1. I really don’t know. Her clothes business is always sold out. She is brand ambassador to many brands we see. If you’rein boutique business you’ll know she makes lots of gain on her clothes. She also has rich boyfriend(s). Is that her fault? Lmao

    2. She is very important thats all I can say and gives them sleepless night. If not what has she done or doing that warrants all the hate?

  9. I saw her a the airport two weeks ago and she looks nothing like what we see online. Absolutely nothing. Just like an ordinary jane. Dark skinned, low-waisted bum and hips and short

  10. Give a Nigerian lady little money and she will be shouting “success” up and down so tay you think Dangote is her houseboy

  11. May hate not blind us so much that we see nothing good in people. Even if this girl was a pauper before bbn, she won, was paid over 30m, plus other endorsements she gets till date. She hired a lawyer and obviously started investing. Isn't she suppse to be getting wealthier? Remove hate from your lives and then you will see the good in people.
