I believe that there is no manual for parenting and so no one should be judged when they make mistakes raising their children.
But as parents try as much as possible to create peace and do the right thing.
I was at my gate searching for my keys in my bag when I heard someone scream, younger sister ran out of the compound across from mine with bottles flying over her head. Her elder sister ran after her cursing and their mother followed too but the lady was already at the junction, she left on a bike. The mother was almost kneeling down and dragging the sister back home. WOWPeople gathered and the sister stated shouting swearing at the mother and telling us what the mother and her younger sister did.
Turns out the mother has been aiding and abetting the 19 year old sister. She doesn’t sleep in the house and sends money to the mother, the elder sister works so when she comes back asking after her younger sister the mother gives excuses.
This time the younger sister was away for 3 days and the elder sister questioned her then younger sister said she was jealous because she brought in plenty money. That’s how the fight started and they beat each other and even broke bottles that hit their mother.
As we were still standing trying to calm the elder sister and scold the mother, a luxury car packed and the younger sister came down and strolled into the compound ignoring us. We held the sister.
Younger sister came out with a box and left in the car without even saying goodbye to her mother. hmmmmm...
I hope she doesn’t regret her actions.
*The older sister reacted please, it is none of her business to enforce discipline at that age. 19 years is an adult, it is only in Nigeria that this is not allowed...She is old enough to be held accountable for her actions and not to be treated like a kid like her older sister did.... She should have mentored her on the right path...

I don’t blame the elder sister sha. Tomorrow now, the younger sis will come and use her own to stain the elder sister white.

19 year old in Nigeria is practically not an adult. Elder sister did the right thing but mother will side with younger sister because of money.
ReplyDeleteI totally disagree with Stella on this one, but certainly respect her opinion. Stella, western style training of children cannot apply to Nigerian children. May we not go the route of the western world because it is doing to do a huge damage to our society.

This statement “leave people to live their lives “ always turns me off especially when these people are family. After they have lived a riotous life you’ll still be the one to run to and fro developing bp up and down.My only advise yo this elder sister is that you have tried your best. When things go south don’t forget to leave her alone and face your peace after all, she’s an adult.

ReplyDeleteMy mother messed up my younger sister's life. Each time I complained, she said I was too harsh on my Juniour ones.
Today my younger sis have 4 children from 4 men. Started breeding at 15. She is 34 and a grand mother. No education, no work, no money.
All living from hand to mouth and looking up to me for assistance.
Yes you heard me right. My sister's daughter is a mother of 2 at 16. All living with my mother.
I have left them to their ways for my mental health.
