The young man visited one of the beaches in Lagos and on his way back home, he ran into the usual hold-ups around the beaches during festive periods and indeed, the "expected" happened.
A lone "leg" robber, armed with a pistol approached him, hit his glass, commanded him to wind down and surrender his mobile phone. Like a sheep being led to the slaughter, he obliged him and drove home feeling dejected thereafter.
As we all know, the loss of one's phone can be frustrating. He did the needful by blocking his Internet banking accounts, the line itself and moved on.
Two days after, he decided to call the line and it was numb, expectedly. The young man did not give up. He kept calling until fortune kind of smiled at him.
Someone eventually picked and behold it was the "leg" robber!
The conversation was a brief one. The thief undertook to return the phone to him without much ado. Initially, he thought it was either a set-up or a dream so he wasn't so hopeful.
In any event, the thief requested my nephew's location and the boy obliged him. He later tried the number but it was switched off. Some thirty minutes later, the thief called again to inform him that he had dropped the phone around the location where they had agreed to meet.
The poor boy combed the entire space without luck. Interestingly, there was this physically-challenged guy who had chosen to make himself useful to himself and society by selling recharge cards around that location. My nephew had over the years shown him kindness and they had bonded beyond measures.
He approached him and told him his mission. For obvious reasons, his street instincts were sharper so he volunteered to conduct another search on his behalf and only for him to return few minutes later with a wet envelope. Behold, the envelope contained the stolen phone! Should he cry or laugh?
He found the experience rather shocking and incredible. There was no demand. His phone was intact and the thief even transported himself down at his own cost, solely.
Should we just conclude by saying that he met a "leg" robber who "loved" him?
In the words of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, a "leg" robber is the one who after engaging in the act of robbery takes to his heels as a defence mechanism.

ReplyDeleteThat one na better rubber. The one that stole my phone said he has to sleep with me before giving me my phone (Not in his offensive word) I begged and even offered to give him more than the phones worth. I just left everything for God
ReplyDeleteThis is unusual.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I hope the robber hasn't used the SIM to commit crime and doesn't want it traced to him.
ReplyDeleteThe SIM card was blocked so that's unlikely.
DeleteThis is strange
