I met a young man some years back. He is from a well-known family so details of his parentage shall be protected.
One day, we got talking after dining and he asked me a random question. He sought to know where I saw myself in another ten years and I honestly didn't have to think about that much before chorusing my answer.
I noticed that he wasn't so amused by my seemingly boring response and at that stage I also inquired about his own plans for the future.
All he ever wanted was a lump sum of 500million USD. Armed with that sum, he was going to travel to Honolulu, order 4 celebrities from America and have 2 in the morning and 2 in the night and once the funds were fully exhausted, he was ready for death! Wow! What a mission/vision. I actually thought he was kidding, but wait for it.
Fast forward, few years down the line, good money came his way but not up to 500million USD. He actually made some cool cash. As soon as he received the funds, he sent some thousands to his wife and kids who were then holidaying abroad and checked into one of the biggest hotels in the city (name withheld).

He checked into the best suite and had 2 beautiful lasses for breakfast and 2 for supper. The practice continued for a month and few weeks until it dawned on my friend that his fortunes had dwindled.
He woke up one morning and he realised that he was left with only 150k Naira. He packed his things and checked out. He drove to his house, there was the usual power outage and he could no longer cope so he decided to go back to the hotel for another night but he had to part with a sum of over a 100k again.
Eventually, he checked out of the hotel and grudgingly retired to his father's apartment where the generator was mostly running due to the purpose for which the building was being put into. Few days into his stay there, the parents noticed that he had started behaving funny. Lo and behold he had slid into depression.

He just couldn't process the fact that he had exhausted over xyzkUSD, just like that, without buying a car or a TV or a shaver or even common boxers!
The poor dad took him to a popular psychiatric hospital to see a shrink and I learnt that he spent like 4 months in that home. The good news is that he's fully recovered now and he's doing great today.
His dreams actually came true.

Always on point
ReplyDeleteAll I deduced from this write-up is that what we desire so much to the point that it becomes ingrained into our subconscious will find a way to manifest in our realities, no matter how long it takes. So when you notice a negative pattern in your day-to-day life, check your thought processess, if you feel it's been negative, kindly make a deliberate effort to change it before it takes a turn for the worst.
