Couple's 3 Children Reportedly Drown In Estate Swimming Pool

A couple in Lagos state have been thrown into mourning after their three children drowned in a swimming pool at their estate in the Ajah area of the state.

Punch reports that the couple had gone for an event when the three children left their house to swim in the pool on June 12,2022
.
An eyewitness said an alarm was raised after the three children were found motionless in the pool. They were immediately removed from the pool and rushed to the hospital where they were confirmed dead.

“The incident happened on an estate in Ajah. The estate has a pool generally accessible to residents. The three siblings were the only children of their parents.

When their parents left home for an event, towards evening, they went to swim at the general pool and drowned.

The Chief Security Officer of the estate was part of the people that found the children unresponsive and quickly rushed them to a hospital, where they were confirmed d€ad. They also quickly alerted the Ajah Police Station and also informed the parents that something urgent that required their attention had happened, but didn’t disclose what happened to their children.

The parents quickly aborted their outing. It was when they met the CSO and others that they were informed that their children drowned. Upon hearing that all their three children had d!ed, both husband and wife fainted and were rushed to a hospital, where they were revived.

The children all girls; were aged 14,7 and 3  .

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said

“The family are going through a difficult time. The incident happened on Sunday, June 12, 2022, but the CSO reported the case at the Ajah Police Station around 1am on Monday, June 13, 2022. The corpses of the victims have been deposited in a mortuary.
The victims were the only children of their parents. In fact, their parents fainted after they informed them that their children drowned.”

*so many questions begging for answers here...
Did the parents leave the three kids at home alone?
Did no adult escort them to swim?
How come nobody saw them on their way to swim and before they drowned?

    1. This is the worst pain a parent should endure. 3 kids at once in a swimming pool?
God, grant them the grace to bear this loss.

  2. Something seems fishy! They couldn't have just gone out to swim if they haven't been doing that before. The 3 of them including the 14year old couldn't have drown same time without anyone noticing.
Is it an isolated swimming pool? Where they the only ones present there at the time?
I just hope this is not the handwork of enemies within, serious investigation needs to be done.
    May God console their parents.

  8. Welcome to Nigeria where people commit crimes and get away.
Those children didn't drown themselves,It was a well planned job.The perpetrators just had to wait for their parents to leave before they could execute their plans.
Isn't there supposed to be a CCTV camera in a supposed estate??

    1. Nobody kill anybody....this kain tins dey happen. I think the eldest naim suppose to dey watch over them, which she's not that young if you check am. She probably carry dem make dem go swim together. And she and dem no too sabi. When we small, we did so may dumb and stupid stuff when our parents no dey around. Like if you know how many times wey i fall from very high tree wey i no suppose climb. I could have broken major limbs or even died. And estates swimming pools no dey get lifeguard. Even most hotels don't as well. The signs are always boldly written. The most they can have is rubber floater and depth levels boldly displayed.

  10. So sad, no mention of living these kids under the watch of an adult. A 14 yr old is still too young to watch over a 7yr old and a 3yr old...
2ndly if the pool was actively used, how did they allow kidd in to the pool area?
Was there no life guard or is it pool guard? Aren't pool's meant to be in a gated area, how did they gain access?
Let's home it's not murder and the drowning was staged?
Then who will they have offended that will wipe out their children including a 3yr old?
    Too many questions.
May the children rest in peace.

    1. Swimming pools are not meant for homes or areas where there will be no constant lifeguard supervision. I see a trend of Nigerians building more & more pools without adequate training. We refused to buy a house with a pool when our kids were young because they always jumped from the first floor to the main floor when playing, when left alone. Swimming classes here are intense from beginner to intermediate to advanced. We don’t know if the 14 year old attended all the necessary stages of swimming classes. May their souls Rest In Peace. That you can afford pools does not mean you need one please get basketball post or tennis court instead!

Please avoid swimming pools if you are not a good swimmer young or old. Especially if it’s deeper than 4ft. There is a family here whose surgeon son, an avid swimmer, dived, hit the wrong part of his head at the bottom of the pool and became a paraplegic, paralysed on all limbs for life. His physician dad committed suicide because of that. Swimming pools are scary. Even for the best of swimmers. They are not status symbols. Look up the story of Joni Eareckson Tada, now in her 70s. She had a swimming accident at 17 that left her a quadriplegic for life. She started writing & painting with her mouth. I read about twins who escaped their sleepy nanny and drowned in the family pool. There are so many terrible stories about swimming that advertising a home with a pool doesn’t attract many parents, it does the opposite. The story of Dbanj’s son’s accident is still very recent. Parents, it’s not everything we must have our kids copy please. They go for swimming lessons from first grade here, yet accidents like Joni Eareckson Tada’s own still happen. The other day a friend’s nephew, of Nigerian descent as well went swimming with white friends, he was the only one that drowned. College age! They suspected foul play but it couldn’t be proven so they were not prosecuted. May God console the parents. May their gentle souls rest in perfect peace. What a sad incident.

  12. No nobody should blame the parents for leaving them alone in the house. A 14yrs girl is old enough to keep an eye on her sisters. It's unfortunate, rest in peace.

    2. Hypocrites, can you people tell us again the age of those young girls you bring from the village to come and do house girl after your first pregnancy?

  26. This is terrible news. The 14year old should be able to watch over her siblings if they stayed indoors. Some 14year olds are also well trained to take care of their younger siblings outdoors too.

I don't think they all went into that pool at the same time. One must have entered and had difficulty swimming and then the other decided to help (not also knowing how to swim). The baby may have fallen into the pool out of curiosity. Terrible!! So many scenarios playing in my head. I hope the matter is properly investigated.

  28. Those saying a 14 year old is old enough to look after her siblings should pause for a minute.. A girl of that age was left at home and the maiguard watched and deviced a plan to get her. He tricked her into opening the door by pretending there was a visitor. Sadly she was brutally raped and then he escaped. Please stop leaving minors without an adult to supervise. It is a terrible thing to do. What if there was a fire or medical emergency for crying out loud.

  31. They should sue the estate management. You don't let people, especially kids use a pool without a life guard present.

    ReplyDelete
  32. No supervising adult responsible for the children was present with them and where were the lifeguards on duty. Both parents and pool management failed those children.

    ReplyDelete
  33. In some pools only 2 children are allowed to use the pool with their parent or guardian present, and after 7.00pm, all children should leave the swimming pool.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Investigation and suing will never revive the dead. 14 yo couldn't save her life, I am sure they must have done this evening swimming before for the parents to allow it again. God rest their souls, and strengthen their parents.
