Having an accent is not a crime,People need to know that especially Nigerians

ReplyDeleteTell them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with our own Nigerian accents. It is a shame that the majority disdain our accents and even our indigenous languages. You would see people born and raised in their hometowns in Nigeria tell you with pride that they cannot speak their language. What a shame!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you. Folks act like having accents in Nigeria is a crime. It makes no sense at all! Especially coming from fellow Nigerians, I think it’s a slave mentality because they want to foreign by all means.

DeleteThat was how a friend told me that I have an accent, like he wants me to be pronouncing words like Americans abi na Britons, I told him I'm an Igbo girl and very proud of my heritage. So far as my grammar is correct, I no send.
Personally see folks that look or talk down anyone with accent as un exposed and wanna be. This is the reason almost every OAP in the country talks with one funny accent or the other just to belong

I don't think other countries mock their own for speaking a foreign language in their own accent. We too do abeg.
Some of those OAP's annoy me cos they over-do. I always get annoyed when i hear Lolu of Bbn talk on radio.

ReplyDeleteNobody would have said anything if she started with the igbotic accent she has but she she was the first to condemn her own way of talking by forming American in the house. Ike influenced her wrongly and she wanted to speak like him by all means. Let her carry her cross.

ReplyDeleteIt is not bad to practice the American accent. The more you practice the more you speak better.Most of those who have masterd the art of speaking in American accent weren't born in it. They practiced it until they became perfect. It is determination. Mercy is growing, Nina was nowhere and today she is doing well in it. Not everybody can go through the stress of practicing the accent everyday; but with Mercy, it is and easy thing to do. You people are angry because the babe can do what you cannot confidently do. My junior roommate during secondary school told us that she would always talk to us with Oyinbo accent and she was always conscious of it. When she started we thought it was a joke, we used to call her a comedian. We never criticized her but we laughed when she made mistake. People would come to our room just to listen to how funny she spoke, but today the babe speaks like she was born there. It's determination.
ReplyDeleteWhere I have a problem is if you are employed to serve the public and you speak what your customers do not understand. If you want to build yourself, do it at your leisure hours. Don't come and be confusing your customers. Those Air hosts should be careful. How them want make people understand that thing wey them dey speak inside plane
