Port Harcourt Church Stampede Over Food Items Leaves 31 Dead And Several Injured

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the death of 31 persons in a stampede that occurred during a church program in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Saturday, May 28, 2022

The injured ones were injured were “swiftly evacuated to the hospital for immediate medical treatment”.

According to the statement by Grace Iringe Koko, the command’s Public Relations Officer, preliminary investigations conducted by the command indicate that the “unfortunate incident occurred when the management of Kings Church Assembly organised a crusade which attracted mammoth crowd”.

The church was meant to give out food items to the less privileged.

The police said the crowd was “uncontrollable” and “all efforts made by the organisers to bring sanity proved abortive”.

  7. There's hunger in the land and it is getting worse by the day. Our rulers and policy makers don't care a hoot. Look at all the dollars distributed at Abuja yesterday. And that is PDP o. APC is on the way. God, please comfort the families of these unfortunate people. Rest the souls of the victims. Come through for us in this country. Cause these demons to experience what the common man is going through. Turn things around for the better of the poor and weak in this country.

  10. Last Christmas a woman lost her baby fighting for free food at a church, couldn't have been more than 5 cups of rice. Her baby fell from her back and was stampeded. She went home with a dead baby.

  11. It’s a shopping program they do yearly and they even used a bigger venue this year but learnt some people went there very early and some camped the evening before just to make sure the get a good position for the freebies.
Real hunger in the land but Nigerians need to curb their disorderliness and impatience.
