Couch Convo - Surrogacy As Viewed In Nigeria And Other Parts Of The World..

All over the World Surrogacy is being embraced and celebrated by all as a means to ending the pains of women who cannot conceive naturally going through the emotional traumas of trying to birth their own Children...

In Nigeria, the scenario is different!

Women and indeed everyone else are made to feel as if using a surrogate is a crime and for this reason, women/couples have started hiding to use surrogates and fake pregnancy bumps to keep up with the lies....

Using a Surrogate is not a crime!!!

What is your take on how Nigerians react to/ view Surrogacy?

  1. It is a very welcomed idea but the thing in Nigeria is that we think so differently, we think in the ages past

    1. Don't mind us. We are hypocrites. Meanwhile our fertility clinics are full all the time. How then do you want us to be able to go give testimony in church as if IVF/surrogacy process and success is not a miracle on its own.

I have a question for people who use both donor eggs and sperm. Isn't it better to kuku adopt?
I have seen couples who used both and wondered why they had to go through the IVF stress when the baby wont carry neither of their DNA. One even used donor eggs and sperm on a surrogate and i thought it was a serious waste of money when they could have easily adopted.

I think we intentionally refuse to accept these norms because of inferiority complex. We feel people who conceive naturally are superior and opening up to using modern method makes us inferior.

    2. Saphire, they probably feel they don't know the roots of the child that is already born and agencies may not be truthful but using donor eggs and sperm, the donors have been screened.

I intend using surrogacy and I won't carry any fake bump, will try to ensure it coincides with my relocation to avoid awkward questions sha.

stop stuffing your tummies to fake pregnancy. Do it with every confidence. A woman who carries another woman's pregnancy is offering a righteous sacrifice.
Adoption is also not a crime!
In fact, adoption is a virtue; to give succor and home to abandoned kids is the height of human feeling and attracts the blessings of God.
What makes ladies not want to adopt is simply greed, selfishness, pride.

    1. Totally agree with your last comment, however it is not that the women refuse to adopt, when it comes to adoption in a family, it is not just up to the woman, but the husband too!

    2. 14:25 you say you agree anc then say something different lol

13:40 adopting is a choice and it’s not your place to judge those that don’t want to

Commenting is a choice and it is not your duty to "judge" those who are expressing their opinions.

    2. She wants a bigger household which is beautiful. I wish i had the luxury to have like 6. My friend's mother had 11 of them; 9 boys 3 girls. All alive, healthy and successful. She is the last. They spoil her silly even in her husband's house.

  5. What do you expect from a people that look at women who gave birth through CS as lesser beings? And it's usually their fellow women who are judgemental.
It may take them 200 years to openly embrace surrogacy.

  6. My only problem with one of the surrogacy types (when the husband sperm is low and a donor has to be used). The children will carry only the woman’s DNA and nothing of her husband, therefore the children will only look like the mother and nothing of the dad. Our family friend did this type and they were forced to relocate abroad cos ppl can’t bridle their tongues. Word on the street back then was that “she go get belle outside dash the man.

    2. Until Africans, and the world at large stop shaming womenwho can not give birth, then I am afraid things will not change!

    3. Anon 14.19, did she do surrogacy or got pregnant by her husband. No child can look solely like a parent if both parents did the do.

    4. One face? All kids? Baby gal, yo friend ain’t truthful dear

    5. Yes it is possible. My kids (boy and girl) look exactly like me facially and complexion wise, they are both same father just that my gene is way stronger than their father (lol). Ex initially denied him at pregnancy just to punished and tarnished my enemy image and my boy rewarded him with not resembling him at all. My ex family all look different don't know why but my family we all look alike even if you re dark or fair there must be a resemblance.

    3. Stella where you see 3m surrogacy in Nigeria?

Only her medicals and embryo transfer bills will take all 3m. Then her up keep, accommodation, chaperone (so she doesn't run away with it below or engage in unhealthy practice while carrying Ur below), legal fees, the IVF bill it's self, then final settlement of the lady after delivery. She won't take less than that 3m as settlement. And it depends on how many babies she carried. A single baby is cheaper than quadruplets.
Usually, some agency that provide all in one services will charge between 9m and 15m, depending on the dynamics.

    4. It all depends on inflation. My friend did in Abuja for about 6M but they started it last year

  8. My challenge is if the surrogate has a miscarriage then decides to "help" the couple by getting pregnant by her own means

    After birth, DNA
Especially if both parents of the belle gave sperm and egg

    1. EDD will give her out. They get monitored by a doctor, the one I know, they have a facility that carter for them. They don't just leave them alone, it depends on the plan you subscribe for. They even blindfold some during childbirth to avoid stories

      Delete
    2. @16:40 or any other person with the answer
Please what is the real full reason for the blindfold. I really want to know. Thanks.

      Delete
    3. Blindfold so they don’t bond with the baby or even know what it looks like and start claiming
Many agencies don’t let them even meet the parents

  9. For the initial belle or at least one did

  10. Ok. So i did surrogacy and had a beautiful baby girl. But because people around me did not see me with pregnancy, they are busy talking behind my back that i adopted.. and me i am not ready to correct anybody's impression.. its nobody's business. If it pains them soo much , they can come and do DNA if that is the only problem they have in their life. However one wants to use to be a mother shouldn't be anybody's business as long as its legal... shior..

  11. Personally, I have my reservations about surrogacy. I think the best surrogate should be your close family, like your sister or mum, due to spiritual implications.

How do I explain this, OK, what effect does soil have on the growth of a seed? Does it affect it? Growth, yield, viability, colour?

So also, the womb that carries a child matters. What thoughts, food, words, music, prayers, emotions does that womb pass on to that child?
If one must go the surrogacy route, one must choose the surrogate personally who has same belief because LIFE IS SPIRITUAL.

I hope someone gets this understanding. .
