In a statement on Monday, Alliyu said Igboho entered an agreement not to leave the medical centre or Cotonou “for any reason”.
“Praises should be given to two prominent Yoruba personalities to wit: Prof. Wole Soyinka and Prof. Akintoye for this turn around in our client’s matter”, he noted.
Igboho and wife, Ropo, fled Nigeria after the authorities declared him wanted for treasonable charges.
They were arrested by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou on their way to Germany.
The incarceration of the activist, still in court in Benin, had been extended by six months after spending the initial six months in prison.
He has been in the custody of the Beninese government since July 19, 2021.

Thank God 🙏
ReplyDeleteI just knew him imprisoned in Benin Republic was the best option for him because if he was in Nigeria this APC blood sucking Govt will frustrate him and keep him in prison indefinitely;for 5yrs he will still be on trial.
ReplyDeleteB&at your comment is ignorant and uninformed. Have you not noticed how the daily “Fulani herdsmen” attacks stopped in the SW as soon as Igboho was arrested? If he was truly the one protecting his people shouldn’t the “attacks” have increased in his absence rather than stop abruptly? There is more than meets the eye...

ReplyDeleteProfessor Akintoye has proven himself once again to be a true Yoruba father and leader. Thanks to him and Prof Soyinka. I applaud the Yoruba secessionist movement for eschewing violence and embracing logic in the search for a way out.
ReplyDeleteThis is Sunday Igboho's second sojourn through the correctional system. I hope he will reflect and see that although he is standing for a string point, the manner of these two elder gentlemen is superior in terms of getting results.
