The Regulation provides that “an unmarried woman police officer, who becomes pregnant, shall be discharged from the Force and shall not be re-enlisted except with the approval of the Inspector General of Police”.
.
The decision of the Court was sequel to an action filed by the Nigerian Bar Association querying the legality of the provision which, it argued, was not only in conflict with the 1999 constitution (as amended), but also amounted to discrimination against an unmarried female police officer.

I have never even seen a married Pregnant Police woman....
This country is a mess. They should go and learn morals from the Saudi Arabians. Not this hypocritical nonsense
ReplyDeleteHe is an obnoxious and sexist judge. It was even filed by Bar Association. Don't worry. It will be over turned. Association of Female Lawyers and their male supporters will fight it.
DeleteIs the judge right or not?
ReplyDeleteBut why should they fornicate in the first instance? Why should they get pregnant when they are not married.
ReplyDeleteWhy are humans making naught the laws of God?
So if husband isn't forthcoming one can't decide to have at least one kid cos you are a police woman? Y'all should be calming down with this una hypocrisy abeg
Delete@Lane
DeleteAre you sure you aren't the hypocrite?
How is that comment minding your lane?
God does not pay the salaries of these women and they are not employed to uphold the laws of God but those of the constitution and country. If the laws are against the constitution, limiting the rights of citizens (policewomen) who the constitution should exist to protect, the courts ought to interpret or congress should repeal and replace them. The punishment for blasphemy in the Bible is death. How many ex-christians have you killed or had arrested?
DeleteThank you Anonymous. There is something called the separation of the church and state. Nigeria is a secular state - it is not religious leaders that rule but democratically elected officials. So why will these elected leaders impose their religious beliefs on people? Is it everyone that is religious/ a christian, a muslim in Nigeria? Why this unhealthy culture of always quoting bible instead of being logical? For the case at hand, how does her being a single mother affect her duties as a police officer? I am not aware that having a child outside wedlock is a crime. And when I say crime, I'm referring to the country's criminal and penal laws. That decision should be appealed and if possible, taken right up to the international courts.
DeleteI don't like what I hate.
Of course, an unmarried woman shouldn't get pregnant. But won't this only make desperate pregnant police women abort in order to retain their jobs?
ReplyDeleteWhy shouldn't an unmarried woman get pregnant? Is it a crime in Nigeria? Why do you people tie everything to religion? I can understand such in radical islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and UAE, but that's because those countries are religious states. Nigeria is a secular state and the earlier you all understand that, the better.
Delete@Stella, the reason is simple. Can a pregnant police woman pursue armed robbers. But me I have seen pregnant police men with sack-like dangling tummies. They should sack those ones too. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
ReplyDeleteThey are not assigned to field duties. They do desk work while pregnant and nursing.
DeleteIrrelevant question. Can all those pot-bellied overweight policemen who are not pregnant chase robbers? Why have they not been fired from the force?
DeleteThis regime should please come and go. Let's try another and see if sane and intelligent people will be put in rightful places
ReplyDeleteI think it's too harsh, if a female police officer is advanced and wants her own child is her right to have one and mistake do happen in a relationship, it's actually her decision to make, there are many departments in the police force, they can be transferred to another department that won't require chasing or stand on the road.
ReplyDeleteMoral police.
ReplyDeleteAzin, very clean, sinless and upright set of people.
DeleteI tell you. The hypocrisy is alarming. What's worse is the simple-minded people who see nothing wrong with this.
DeleteHisbah force or Nigerian Police force? Oluwa , I prayed to be lucky this year . I have worked hard and I want to be lucky make hard work no kill person. Miracle should locate me. I want to jakpa 🤣😂😂😂
ReplyDeleteNon feminists, please carry your cross and enjoy it. Nobody is fighting for your right again. Since when you are desperate to marry, you will open your stinking mouth and join your useless admirer who is like this judge to insult feminists. Na kuku you go carry bele and they will sack you after. So you can go and finally be dependent on a man like this judge.
ReplyDeleteNa wa
ReplyDeleteWhat about those policemen that look like pregnant women?
ReplyDeleteUnmarried Female Police Officers Are Not Allowed To Get Pregnant.. - Unmarried woman gan should not get pregnant. If you too talk na, dem go cast you. You suppose unmarry come still get belle?? What's strong wee you? You better stop it.
ReplyDeleteY'all should cool down, it's part of the job, not only police but all military and paramilitary personnel. Once you sign the acceptance form, which u should read btw, it's stated there.
ReplyDeleteOkay, but there are ways to go about it, first,u can fill in married in the yearly emolument form, that is a sign that u got married. Secondly, u can orally announce that u will get married and even take a small leave. There are many ways to go about that and no one will condemn you.
Stella, you can't see a uniformed pregnant woman cos they are free to wear civilian clothing, there are maternity uniforms but it's not that necessary.
