    3. Did they not Identify the body before carrying? This story is very hard to believe. I buried my mum last year, and we were going weekly to check the body,so i don't really get what she is saying.

    1. Depends on her illness and if she was unrecognizable and they just trusted that it was her. Somr sickness can drastically change how ppl look.

I remember when I went to view my grandmother at the funeral home it was very hard to recognize her, she was so dark and whatever they were putting to preserve the body changed her features.

  4. If truly you're from the East, you should know the right place to channel this question to. There are elders and custodians of traditional rites where you come from. They should be the first place of contact than coming online and asking people who barely know anything about your tradition.

    1. How gullible can some of you be. So they family members couldn't recognise the person the carried and buried. Na wah for Una.

    2. This one bukwa ogbonge lie.
In Igboland, before a corpse is buried the relations come in to lay wrapper or white cloth on the coffin called ikpu akwa, they speak to the dead wishing her safe journey to the beyond then the church Reverend prays over the corpse, cover it after the family takes it off for burial.

  6. As in you people did not recognise your mother's face again or what?

Or you people were given her corpse in a coffin which you people did not open and put her in the ground and buried her?

  7. I don’t understand. Didn’t any family member not realise this when they looked at the body?

  10. So no family member was there to identify the body? Was there no family member present when the body was prepared for the funeral?
Was the body never viewed at all? Hard to believe.

  11. So the woman bears your mommy's name and face/body too?
This sounds like a farce or deliberate attempt to toy with people's intelligence or both.

  12. This has happened to someone i know very well, I know the woman before she died. The children are all these social media freaks, very interested in different asoebi they will wear and pepper them that they were given another dead body, even their papa, all were busy with Facebook posts. They buried the wrong person. When they returned to base, the Sunday they went for Thanksgiving, they received a call that the owners of the one they carried have come, they are sorry for the mistake, they traveled and confirmed that truly they buried another people's mom cos they noticed a birthmark their mom had, so they carried their mom, exhumed the woman give her to the owner and buried their mom. It can happen when there's mistake or carelessness

  13. It has happened to my sisters colleague at work last year, their mother died and when it was time for the burial they were given another woman’s body, the lady said she noticed it even the late woman’s sister noticed that the deceased was looking so black and very different but they felt it was cos of the embalment and the fact that her burial wasn’t immediately so they felt that’s what caused the changes in her body,Meanwhile the original owners of the body that was buried her kids and grandchildren came back from abroad for the burial, preparations were ongoing while my sister’s colleagues mother was already buried like 2 weeks earlier. When those ones were ready for the burial on the day of the burial they noticed that this person they were about to bury was a bit fair and a slightly taller, then one of the children raised alarm that this person doesn’t look like their mother, that their mother is not fair at all, that’s how they went back to the morgue, those ones checked their record and contacted the first family when they noticed they made the mistake at the mortuary, the family came exhumed the first woman’s body and handed over to the family, and they gave my sisters colleague her mother’s body.she was now buried again but this time no party,no noise just buried quietly by the children that same day.One of the woman’s son is a lawyer so he sued the hospital for the error them still dey on top the matter for court.this happened last year,Tho my sis colleague said after the first burial she was seeing her mother In her dreams crying that she is not at rest yet.but she didn’t understand until they found out the mistake.well after the swap she stopped having those dreams and nothing bad has happened to any one of them in their family till now.so it happens.

  15. Something like this happened in my home town, in this case,it was a man,the last child noticed ,but he was told the changes is cos of the enbalment , it was after almost a month that the children of the person they buried came for their father, initially they said they can't exhume the body,it became a great case, but at the end it was exhumed

  16. The story no be lie oo.it happened in this asaba wey I dey live. This is not fabu. At times family go pay mortuary attendant to dress their dead relative. No family member go get time go look who attendant dress until story go climb story.

  17. Nobody checked on the corps before or on the day of the burial? how did this even happen? I'm asking because we checked on my mom's corpse like 4 times or more in the 2 weeks she stayed in the morgue before burial. And on the day of the burial i was right there to identify her at first i was like no o this can't be her (i didn't want to believe she was dead really) but i saw everything and i knew it was her. so how come nobody could tell it wasn't her?

  19. Sonething similar happened to someone i know during the covid period. The Aunt died in Kano state and they were travelling to Cross river state for the funeral. The vehicle conveying the corpse kept breaking down along the way so someone had to open the coffin to appease the corpse, that was when they discovered they had wrong corpse. I wrote about it when it happened.

  20. It might not be fake. I have heard stories like this. Don't know if it has consequences

  21. The poster didn't explain well if they didn't check her mother's corpse before they took her home, family members usually enter to see their corpse before it can be bath and dress up.

They should talk to their elders and not we.

  22. Hmmnn, na so dem dey give women another baby. Later dna test will make the woman guilty.

  23. I was inside the morgue to identify my late sister ( the mortuary people requested that a fam member should come over), while at it I saw so many dead/corpse lying around. I was 21 then, someone later said that I was too young to witness all that, then one of my uncle who was present then took over in recognising her, because they were still sorting out while I was just standing there. Very sad and horrific experience for me.
