NFF Sacks Rohr As Super Eagles Coach And Appoints Ex Footballer Augustine Eguavoen As Interim Coach

Gernot Rohr has been sacked as the coach of the Super Eagles by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The NFF has also appointed its Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen, to take charge of the team on an interim basis.

“This is with immediate effect, and follows the termination of the relationship with Franco-German Gernot Rohr, who has been in charge of the three–time African champions for the past 64 months, and is Nigeria’s longest–serving manager,” an official statement on Sunday read.

The decision was taken during a virtual meeting of the NFF Executive Committee on Sunday December 12,2021.

Eguavoen will work with Salisu Yusuf, Paul Aigbogun, Joseph Yobo, Dr Terry Eguaoje and Aloysius Agu.

Former captains Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Garba Lawal will provide technical and ambassadorial support.

Eguavoen will now take charge of the Super Eagles, ahead of the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Cameroon 9th January – 6th February 2022, and until the appointment of a substantive Head Coach.

  5. They should have fired him since. If he were an indigenous coach they wouldn't have let him stay this long. They should just get a good indigenous coach to handle their affairs.

The other day, Cameroon elected Samuel Eto'o as the football president, it's high time Nigeria too starts to put square peg in a square hole.

  6. He should have been fired like yesterday. They should engage a competent coach next time not some European coach on IT using our national team for experiment.

  7. Austin Eguavoen aka Cerezo is an experienced coach. Thumbs up👍 to Amaju Pinnick for this action taken.
