The suspects arrested are Igwe Anya Chima, Okorie Okam, Irem Ifeanyi Mbah, and Emeh Kalu, the husband of the deceased and the principal suspect.
The four suspects are within the age bracket of 25 – 40years and all natives of Nguzu Edda village in Afikpo South Local Council Area of Ebonyi State.
This was made known in a statement signed by the Police Headquarters Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on Wednesday.
According to Mba, investigations into the death of the victim followed complaints received from the people of Ngugworo community, Ebonyi State, a border town to Abia State where the victim resided when the decomposing body of the late Mrs Kalu was discovered in their community.
He said that the discrete investigations carried out by the Police team led to the arrest of the suspects.
“Investigations by the Police team revealed that Emeh Kalu – the husband of the deceased, in a bid to fraudulently and hastily ‘inherit’ his wife’s numerous assets including landed property, houses, money in the bank and thriving business, etc., procured the services of five other criminal elements to stage the abduction of his wife by luring her to meet him at a junction to pick up somethings for the house.
“Investigations further revealed how the criminals strangled her to death after obtaining necessary information on the whereabouts of title documents and other relevant papers of her possessions. Efforts are being intensified to arrest other suspects and persons indicted in the matter with a view to concluding the investigations,” the statement added.
The Force also condoled with the family of the deceased for the unfortunate loss and urged families and relatives to be their “brother’s keeper”, and provided prompt information to the Police that would assist in proactively containing crimes and all forms of gender-based violence.
All the suspects would be arraigned in court on completion of the investigation.

DeleteWicked man
ReplyDeleteKudos to the Nigerian police.
ReplyDeleteWhat an evil husband
Wicked man.
ReplyDeleteI'm more angry at the fact that they succeeded in killing the late woman. You married a hard working financially woman only to kill her and inherit her properties? RIP to the unfortunate woman.
ReplyDeleteWhen one marries a lazy man.
ReplyDeleteWickedness of the wicked. Wonder the forces that controls this people to make them carryout such evil.
ReplyDeleteWicked man...
ReplyDeleteRip to her....Wickedness everywhere
ReplyDeleteWomen, don't marry down especially in this naija. E get why. The average Nigerian man doesn't like it if his wife is doing better than him financially in the long run. It may be OK to him when they are dating or married a few years but if it continues like that, they don't like it.
ReplyDeleteYou don't see women killing off their rich husbands (the exceptions are when the woman plans it with another man who is her lover). Women are not bitter or angry that their husbands are doing better than them.
Single ladies, please shine your eyes before marriage. Seek God's guidance directly, not one pastor or daddy GO.
Your first and last paragraphs are contradictory. What if God's guidance leads you to marry down, how about that?
DeleteGos cannot not lead you to marry down, God is not wicked abeg.
DeleteBlackberry, say what you know. What a ridiculous statement. You clearly think Christianity is about blessings only, no trials. Smh.

ReplyDeleteImagine the wickedness because of property!!
ReplyDeleteThank God he's in police custody
I'm so tired of femicide stories. Gosh, when will this stop!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't any of these ppl ever have any decency. Man comes to hire you to kill his wife for no earthly reason and you follow through with it instead of reporting his ass to the police. Must every job be taken? Even big companies have application process and screening before they take you on as a customer, but anyone can hire these types to kill others for no real reason behind it and they just jump up and kill innocent ppl for nothing.
But a heart rooted on money will do ANYTHING to get it. Let the lovers of money worship their master. From the top to the body so many only live for money and the things it can get them. What a world.
Was this man sick?
ReplyDeleteWith such successful woman as wife, envy and jealousy still blinded him? What a cruel man....
End time husband.
ReplyDeleteGOD forbid evil company
