Residents Of Iyana Ipaja Cry Out To Lagos Governor Sanwo Olu For Help After Heavy Rainfall

This is the present condition of living of a Blog visitor who wants the Governor of Lagos state to look into the issue causing this mess!

She says...

This is a cry out for help to the governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Sanwo-Olu.

The residents of Abule-Oki, Iyana-Ipaja, behind Power Line are seriously suffering the effects of heavy flooding as a result of the blocked Canal.

This issue has been lingering for many years before we moved into this area, but it got worse after some contractors came to the canal area around September 2021 with heavy machinery to dredge the canal and reduce the flooding.

They did a bit of work in September, but by October it gradually dwindled to once a week, twice a week and since then, it seems they have suspended work there entirely without creating an avenue for the flood from different areas of Iyana-Ipaja to get into the canal, because currently the heaps of sand dredged out of the canal are blocking all avenues for the flood to get into the canal so we are all suffering the effects.
The whole area gets flooded for hours after little rainfall and no one can go out or come in.

After the flood has gone down, the whole environment is coated with slippery mud and and one has to be extremely careful to avoid slipping and falling.

It would be great relief for us if this issue is looked into and resolved.

Here are pictures after the rain that fell on Sunday afternoon, November 14th 2021.

  2. This is very bad and it will be affecting the houses there.. Block and foundation soaking up mud water In long run will cause structural damage.

    1. Cholera outbreak looming plus other nasty diseases

A smart government will create a satellite town drainage system and anchor it quickly on this matter to prevent sentimental clowns from carrying placards and prevent this happening to other areas

    2. Commissioner and Minister of environment always form deaf and dumb when things like this happens

Instead of rolling out to prevent and properly manage such

  11. You are lucky it's Lagos State. I'm sure the governor will respond unlike those of us in Ogun state. We have lost hope in the government.

  12. I encourage citizens to do more for themselves and depend less on the government especially in places where governments are known to invest little in infrastructure and repair. Please form community groups to address your issues, pool resources and create the communities you want to have. Government is not what it used to be and in Nigeria very few have known good governance, so there should be no faith placed in them.

Forming community groups can seem like too much work, but the way the world is moving these days it is the small collectives is going to help ppl to survive better. There is a lot of hidden things going on, look out for each other and take your survival into your own hands. Good luck!!!

  14. This area is actually a swampp area.So those who bought land in this kind of place need to sandfill properly before erecting the foundation. You don't blame government for you own wrong decision by erecting a structure without survey the place.
