Apostle Peter Tom Udofia, the General Overseer of the Way of Salvation Church of Jesus Christ, Calabar, has married an 18-year-old choir member of his church as a second wife.

They will tell you there is no place in the Bible where it was expressly stated that no man can marry more than one wife. Don't judge them withy own interpretation of the Bible. In the early centuries of the Catholic Church priests were allowed to marry, some of them were polygamous. Priests were not stopped from marrying till the 12th century. We live in a world where different denomination of the Christian faith interprete the Bible to suit their whims and caprices. Ours is a society where pastors are demi gods and are worshipped by their followers. A society where pastors use tithes and offerings to enrich themselves and pauperise our people, instead of taking care of widows, orphans and strangers. The intent is always self enrichment while singing I can never be poor. No Church have the moral right to criticise and condemn others, they all have their flaws

Please I'm catholic and priests being allowed to marry back then was never a sin as marriage itself is not sinful. Even today, a married man can still be a priest but clerical marriage is not allowed. And there is a difference between what the church teaches and what people do. When Christianity came to eastern Nigeria, a lot of our ancestors became Christians while still holding on to certain aspects of their culture such as polygamy. There were clashes between cultural practices and Christian teachings.. remember Enoch/Okoli in things fall apart. The church didn't chase them away as it takes time for people to adjust or change, besides Christianity is a journey...

DeleteA married man cannot be a priest in the Catholic church. He can be a deacon, not a priest. Priests are required to be celibate and single. If married priests were allowed, the men who left the priesthood to marry in recent times would have kept their positions.

Even the polygamy & divorce Moses allowed in the OT was due to the hardness of hearts of people so it was still an issue. Mtt 19:8. God allowed David fight wars and kill but it was still an issue cos he wouldn't let him build his temple with soiled hands. (1chronicles28) But I rest my case.
