Crooner Wizkid Says Becoming A Father At A Young Age Changed Him

Award-winning singer, Wizkid, has opened up how fatherhood changed his life and how he was scared and confused when he had Boluwatife, his first child, at 21.

The 31-year-old Grammy winner disclosed this in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, where he talked about his music career and collaboration with Damian Marley, Jamaican singer, for ‘Blessed’, a track off ‘Made in Lagos’ album.

It could be recalled that In 2011, Wizkid and Shola Ogudu, his first baby mama, had welcomed Boluwatife.

In the interview, the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner stated that he felt so lost when he became a father at that age, saying that “I wasn’t sure I was ready to be one”.

“Fatherhood changed me, man. It’s like everything he said and more. When I had my first child, I was 21. I’ll never forget. I felt so lost, ’cause I wasn’t sure I was ready to be a father at that point,” he said.

“I was scared I wasn’t going to be a good father to my kids ’cause I [was] still a baby. I was so confused. I remember after I had my child, it just changed everything, man. I started seeing my life differently.”

The singer also added that fatherhood inspired him to venture into business to enable him to cater for his family at the time.

“I literally started putting my business together after I had my kid. It just made me [think], ‘Oh, wow. Another life is here that I have to care for. That’s my responsibility,” he added.

“So he really changed my life, man, and I called him Boluwatife: ‘As God wishes.’ That was a big blessing to my life. Fatherhood changed me forever.”

    1. Don't mind them,
He pays his school fees and house rent. Buys his clothes and feeding.
The yeye baby mama wants him to be taking care of her too, the money he sends is not enough to cater for her, so when she shares from it, at the end of the day, money will not reach to do what it is meant for (the child's upkeep). If she has a job or business that takes care of her needs, sebi she will not spend from Wizzy'money that he sends for his child.

All these lazy gurls, when they born for celebrity, they will relax and expect him to be paying her salary. Not everyone will be like Davido that pays his babaymamas huge amount of money monthly, so much that even if they don't work, they will still live fine. See Sophia momodu collecting 500k monthly that year, when things were not this expensive sef.

That's what he has always been dragged for. Unavailability and not providing for his son. How will wizkid son be going to 200k primary school in lagos? O wrong now

    3. Anon14.31, 200k Primary is too much , if you want the child to go to 400k school, them mother should still contribute too. We mothers should try and be considerate towards our children father (married or not, rich or poor etc). This men are human and someone child too.

We should stop milky men because one had a baby for them . Women be independent and don't depend on any body, this gives you respect. Pick your bills and move on....
