In my first pregnancy, I passed my due date with one week and I hoped the second time would be different but alas my due date came and went yet nothing.
We went to the hospital and was told to come back after 1 week. Was told that I'll be induced if labour doesn't start. On the day I was supposed to go to the hospital, I went to pee and noticed a little blood. I immediately knew that labour had started.
In my first pregnancy, when I saw my bloody show in the morning, I gave birth around 6pm so I thought it would be the same the second time. I went to hubby who was preparing for work and told him i was in labor but didn't want to go to the hospital yet. I told him to come back by 12pm to take me to the hospital.... Hmm, he refused oh. Took my hospital bag to the car and forced me to go to the hospital that morning.
I was so upset because unlike my first pregnancy where we paid for high cost (you get a private room, a private labour room and a standby nurse) the hospital had turned the high cost rooms to covid unit so I had to go for low cost. (I had to share a room with two others)
I was checked and I was 4cm dilated. This was around 9am. I was not feeling any pain so I started chatting on WhatsApp with my sister in-law who was waiting outside. She was not allowed in.
The two other women in the room were screaming like mad and this got me very scared. Unlike them, I was just smiling and chatting. By 11am, I was checked again and I was 6cm dilated yet no pains. I honestly thought I'd be giving birth by 6pm. I called my Mom and she prayed with me.
Few minutes later, the pain started hitting me back to back. I couldn't stand, I couldn't sit, couldn't even bend. At that moment, I just kept begging God that I would never have s*x again. I cursed hubby for putting me through such pains.

Well at 11:39am, I gave birth to a very pretty girl. She weighed 3.5kg. thanks to God, I had no tear so I didn't have to go through the pain of being sewn.
I am really grateful that hubby didn't listen to me and took me to the hospital immediately, I for born for inside house. I was discharged same day at 6pm...

Least I forget, they didn't charge us a dime. When hubby wanted to pay, we were told it was free. I honestly thought that since they knew we're Nigerians they would charge us. Heath care here is really good. I was surprised to get special treatment and yet no charge
She's 8 weeks old today.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations Poster. Under normal circumstances, Labour time tends to get shorter with each subsequent delivery.
ReplyDeleteWhile living in South Africa. I gave birth to my daughterin one of the biggest hospital in johnesburg. From the ante metal to delivery, infact I gave birth through CS everything was free. Including drugs, pampers food for the duration of the two days I was there before been discharged.
