The couple came under the spotlight last July after sitting down on Jada's Facebook Watch show, Red Table Talk, to discuss her relationship with singer August Alsina while married to Will. Jada opened up about getting into an "entanglement" with August, with Will and Jada then attempting to clear the air.
Now, Will has spoken out once again about his relationship with Jada during an in-depth interview with GQ.
Sharing an excerpt from his new memoir Will during the interview, the actor writes, "Our marriage wasn’t working. We could no longer pretend."
"We were both miserable and clearly something had to change," Will's memoir continues, with the interview then revealing that at some point Will and Jada's relationship 'stopped being monogamous'.
Will went on to discuss his marriage to Jada, telling the publication, "Jada never believed in conventional marriage.… Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship. So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up.
"There were significant endless discussions about, what is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple? And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection."
Will continued, sharing his view that marriage "can't be a prison" and adding that he and Jada have given "freedoms" to one another.
He said, "We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can’t be a prison. And I don’t suggest our road for anybody. I don’t suggest this road for anybody. But the experiences that the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love."

Nonsense! You're either married or not. This open marriage mumu talk is just irritating. Leave, if you can't stay faithful.
ReplyDeleteIt is their marriage. Face your own.
DeleteIf this was a woman saying that her husband is actively cheating and no longer interested, you will tell her to stay there and keep praying. Must everyone be frustrated?
Most of the husbands in Nigeria are in open marriages. It is wives who are in denial and therefore, denying themselves certain needs.
DeleteTwo confused human beings raising confused children. The only child Will has that has a good head on his shoulders is the one raised by his ex wife.
ReplyDeleteSatanism
ReplyDeleteShame of the century
A lot of rumors that they had an open marriage was going round which turns out to be true.
ReplyDeleteI understand where Will is coming from...doing things for the people you love is really good with the right person. But cos you don't believe in divorce, you reduce or remove your principles to accommodate that loved one is just plain weird.
Jada has always loved the fast life...when you listen to her stories esp on Red Table Talk you would know that she did everything doable whether it's drugs or sex or booze...she was an addict. She obviously didn't like to be caged and being married did that.
Will compromised so she could have her "entanglements" in peace. He did too but never saw him publicly with his. I guess this is marriage in modern age...I wish him well but my respect will be restricted to his movies cos I cannot relate.
You have it the other way round, Jada did a complete 360 when she married Will and stopped seeing anybody else, Will is the one who can't be monogamous, there are even some bi/trans entanglement rumors about him. Jada bent over backwards as they both wanted it to work so badly. I remember her once saying she was crying everyday for 3 months cos her marriage was unravelling, rumour also has it that her entanglement with August Alsina was like a revenge cheating cos she wasn't happy about Will constantly stepping out. Unfortunately, the guy has a loud mouth, he even exposed his affairs with Keke Palmer that same period.
DeleteWill forgave her, not like he has much of a choice in the matter, I think their only regret is that his one was made public cos all the press had about them in the past were rumours. I can't identify with this open marriage stuff but it seems to work for them so let them carry on.
We already know it's an open marriage now..no need for the long talk😒😒😒
ReplyDeleteOyibo man sold you monogamy, same oyibo is telling you that sometimes they do away with it and you're vibrating.
ReplyDeleteLmao. I love monogamy personally, but I've never looked at people in open marriages like they have a lesser marriage than I do. Some of yall being cheated on like theres no tomorrow are among the people wey carry am for head. Tame your man or woman first before yapping
Anon 12:04 chop kisses jaree!
DeleteAnon 12:04 you get brain!
DeleteLike the judgemental lots here baffles me. Instead of them to think deep about the ish.
Could this be part of the reasons why their children are messed up in the head?????
ReplyDeleteThey raised their children with no rules and that messes things up the more, even adults need rules to function effectively. You don't want to live in a society where there is a breakdown of law and order, refer to regions plagued by war and civil disturbances, you will discover that man is terribly vicious animal when set free from civil responsibilities. God help us.
DeleteBiko divorce already abeggg, greedy fellows, you don't luv each other enough to have a happy marriage, can't be with you and can't be without you syndrome, that's selfish, set each other free, think of you children and other people that looks up to you as role model.gossshhhhhh this world is turning into another thing.Trust Nigerians to start copying this very soon, those ones don't copy good things from abroad, only bad behaviours, taaaaaaaaa
ReplyDeleteWell, I see it as loving each other enough to accommodate their fantasies, as it is, they have both engaged in these fantasies and are still together so it's not selfishness per se.
DeleteNo one owes you anything. If your eye is strained from looking up at them, close it or look down. Open marriages are not a new concept in Nigeria. Most marriages in Nigeria are open, it is just that the wife decides to bother herself with "what will people say"?
DeleteSigns of the end time 🤷
ReplyDeleteMarried people whith cheating spouses are in an open marriage. If your husband releases inside another woman or collect release like dat poster yesterday u are in an open marriage.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has a sidechic. I have a side cock, but he has no idea, my office sends me to trainings abroad, funny I have never gone alone, dear husband can swear on my head, we cool like dat, atleast he acknowledges me for being understanding.
ReplyDeleteThis man is dying slowly. When a man cannot handle his own, this is how messed up things turn out. See their kids sef, acting like psychos.. Our once fresh Prince of Bel air.. he wasn't supposed to end up with Jada.. Jada was/is for the street.. she rolled with 2pac and them gang from way back.. but love abi na bomb pussy cover Will sense.. plus Jada was very beautiful..
ReplyDeleteImagine having to deal with the thoughts of August using his weapon on mass destruction dicc to shift Jada's womb.. whenever he's making lov to her, he'll always question himself if he's satisfying her or she's just faking orgasm.. it's even worse that the news is public knowledge and the person involved is a young boy who was a friend to their son..
Abeg I remain old skul..
Woke kee all of Una there.. Nonsense unhappy life.. weak Husband
Didn't you hear the rumour alleging that he s**ked the producer's d**k to get cast as Fresh Prince? As well as several other affairs along the way, your fresh prince isn't as fresh as he made us believe. Jada said she and 2pac weren't dating but were really good friends, the late Left Eye also said the same, seems 2pac was a really deep person that connected with some people beyond a sexual level.
DeleteTruth is, both parties are cheating and choose to hold on to each other as they might not get a better deal out there. we all know how f**ked up Hollywood is.
I never considered Jada physically good looking till more recently.
DeleteIt’s the children who need sensible and good parental guidance I pity.smh!!
ReplyDeletePoor Will,It takes a different kind of love to allow someone you love deeply to do whatever they want and still love that person regardless. That's the kind of love God has for us.
ReplyDeleteThis is not new. Even here in nigeria, a lot of people are in open relationships and marriages. Some know and admit it, some will never admit it. Most people cant be with one person for their whole lives.. men and women. So its not new, and theres nothing bad in this. Some couples here in nigeria even swing with other couples. But religion nd hypocrisy won't let it be admitted. Or is it the one that wives look for babes for 2somes with their husbands? E dey happen.
ReplyDeleteIf they claim to be Christians, there's everything wrong with it.
DeleteChristians are the highest hypocrites. Na dem dey indulge pass, and the women will do just anything to keep d title or mrs and the "home".

ReplyDeleteIs it a wonder that marriages are crashing on daily basis then?
DeleteMarriages have been crashing steady from time immemorial. Its just technology and social media that seems to make it more pronounced these days.

DeleteGoodluck
ReplyDeleteIt is baffling that people think that Will Smith is bending over for Jada when it is so clear even in the publication if you read between the lines that he in fact is the architect of open marriage. Saying Jada comes from a family that does not believe in monogamy or whatever is just crap. I just see the whole king as filthy and it is a shame when people try to cover up weaknesses with excuses. Nobody is here to judge but how do they even get by with filthy bodies.
