ReplyDeleteThe Autism Spectrum Disorder is always characterised as just one disorder and often undetected because it's soft markers are quite subtle. There are levels to Autism spectrum so no two persons have exactly the same issues as it can be mild/severe depending on how much difficulty and stress it causes them. ASD is poorly understood without direct experience hence some parents having lil or no knowledge of it.
Your boy can communicate and has a level of independence but have you assessed him for
anxiety?
aggressiveness?
Learning difficulties?
struggling with comprehension?Communicating his needs?
Finding it difficult to make friends?
Maintaining eye contact when you talk to him?
These are all symptoms of ASD.
*Drenching himself with pee could be a trigger, it can be unpredictable and without warning. He just can't recognise the feeling when he needs to go especially when engrossed in things like watching TV.
Remind him ever so often and assist him in the loo. Find out what he likes looking at..like his favourite toy in poster and paste it in the bathroom for him. If he loses interest in it, change the poster to another.
*Playing too much is better than meltdowns. He's typically boisterous and that's okay for his age.
*Pooping on himself could be because he was terribly distressed and no, beating him did not make him stop. His challenges stop over time.
STOP BEATING HIM!!!
Some of these things that are issues now won't be there in the next 5 years. Other things may also occur but they will come and go, just take them in your stride.
Like Stella said yesterday, read up on ASD and also read it's co-morbids so that you are aware of any new/different presentation that you might confuse with "stubbornness". Even if you have to emphasise correction over and over and over, do it. It's hard not to get frustrated but try not to react and be patient with him. Maintain eye contact always each time you talk to him to reassure him. You'd be amazed at his reaction/change.
Lastly, you know him better than us..noting these differences doesn't mean your boy is not normal so stop with the comparison with his younger sibling. You and your husband should stop being too critical of him else your children will pick up on it. He doesn't need sibling rivalry that can cause long term damage.
❗️- Please, I'm not in anyway diagnosing him. These are just pointers to help you in figuring how to deal with his stubbornness.

Then appreciate them...You're probably sitting there thinking "Yes, but I want more money, a better relationship, more time to travel, to be thinner, happier, or whatever"...stop focusing on what you lack and start focusing on what you've already got.'
The Bible says, 'Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest' (Ecclesiastes 11:4 NLT). If you demand perfection-or-nothing, you'll keep ending up with nothing. The fact that 'God...made us what we are' (Ephesians 2:10 TLB), means while our best is always commendable, none of us will attain perfection this side of Heaven. And that's okay, because Christ has clothed us in his righteousness and made us 'complete in him' (Colossians 2:10 NKJV).

Last week I went to use the ATM
ReplyDeleteI got there and looked around and joined the long queue. A young lady came to meet me and asked how much I wanted to withdraw. She said she over-withdrew money; She was supposed to withdraw 3k but mistakenly pressed 10k. She will give me 7k cash, I will transfer it to her account.
This is what shocked me; I have been standing on the queue for approximately 5mins and I never saw this woman around that ATM, she wasn't on the queue, she never made any withdrawal. Which ATM did she use in getting the 10k?
I told her I will wait for my turn, she left my side, I asked the man in my front, did you see this lady around? I wanted to point her but the babe had disappeared, I didn't see her again.
I told the man what she said and he laughed and said it is an old logic. They come with fake naira notes claiming they mistakenly pressed and withdraw the wrong amount
When you are in a hurry to leave the long queue, you transfer the money to them and they give you cash
You leave happily thinking you have escaped long queue, go to wherever to buy something with the money and realise you were given fake money
The man called it Old logic but what saved me was my keen observation, she looked so innocent and pretty, you won't even suspect a thing
I am sure someone out there is hearing about this stealing logic for the first time.
I had to post this because I am hearing it for the first time too o. It might help someone who doesn't know this trick.

DeleteWe lost a relative early hours of yesterday. She's like an aunty to me and a huge part of my childhood. My mom would hand over everything to her and she would get things done.
ReplyDeleteI remember many years ago, my mom had to travel for a course in another part of the country, she stayed and took care of us for the whole year.
She was asthmatic and had an attack at night but she didn't make it. I feel so sad and I've been crying ever since.
