The figure is aside from the number of Nigerian doctors who were trained in the UK and are practising there.
The Senior Medical Officer of the British General Medical Council, Miranda Newey, disclosed this in an email exchange with The PUNCH on Wednesday.
According to Newey, the increase in the number of doctors migrating from Nigeria has made the council to open a bigger clinical examination centre.
“The spike in doctors’ migration made us to open a bigger clinical assessment centre to enable us to test more doctors wanting to work in the UK.
“Despite being forced to close during the pandemic, there has been a lot of demand for test placements from people coming in from Nigeria.”
If what you read doesn't scare you, I think you need help. The doctor-patient ratio in Nigeria is 1:5000 against the WHO recommendation of 1:600. Yet the country lost 4,528 doctors to the UK alone, meaning 22million patients have been deprived of access to doctors. We are not talking about the ones we lost to America, Canada and other reasonable nations. Doctors were running away even at the peak of COVID-19!
There seems to be no light in sight. As I type, resident doctors are on strike. For what exactly? They're asking for very very basic things and the zoo is dithering but handing out largesse to criminally minded politicians. Even in a zoo, the healthcare of the animals is paramount. I don't exactly know how to qualify this enclave. A hungry homo erectus will still slither out of its habitat to support this plague of a government. How exactly do supporters of Lifeless view themselves in their quiet time? I even doubt they have any quiet time. They're constantly in battle with themselves. Umu ekwensu.
If you're a young doctor still hanging around in the belief things will get better, I pity you. Run as far as your legs can carry you.

ReplyDeleteI had wanted to travel in 2014 to Australia, for that have always been one dream of mine even till date. I love the country and have so much read about its economic activities and sociocultural lifestyle. Such a nice place to be if you have the resources.
A very good friend of mine who had stayed overseas over five years was helping in my visa preparation and all that. I was to pay 1.1million for the visa. I made two payment of 900,000 with a balance of 200,000 left.
That was one dream that didn't see the light of the day. That faithful morning I was to meet with my friend in his house, I was told he travelled to the village for an emergency and will return in two days time. If that was the case, at least he should have let me know and moreover his numbers weren't connecting.
After some days, I was told by his mother that he has gone back overseas. So disappointing and painful as I saw that as one opportunity I needed the very most at the time.
Two weeks later, he called and tried to explain things to me. No matter what he said, I was never happy with him. I had requested for a refund of my 900,000. Lest I forget, four years before then in 2010 to be precise, I had lost over 3million in a failed business transaction and traveling out was one step I felt was going to make things better for me and now this is happening again.
It was a painful scenario that left me hurt and broken. The memory of 2010 became afresh again in my mind.

DeleteHe gave me a number of his younger sister and told me to call her. I did like he said. I met the sister in anticipation of my visa or Money but was shocked when I was given a hundred thousand naira out of 900,000 as to calm me down. I refused the money and left. He called after some days and promised to pay up and that I should hold the 100,000. Reluctantly, I took it and he never did like he said.
DeleteAt a point it seems he no longer takes my calls or return it. Just like 2010, I struggled to put that away from me but to be truthful here, it wasn't easy.
Last year, I started getting his messages on Facebook. We exchanged numbers and started communicating on phone again. In December last year he came back and we met. After every discussion, he left and promised to do something for me. He gave me another 100,000.
Our friendship dated way back that not even money will pull it down.
Now understand this, in all the time all this was going on, I never curse him or swear on him. A part in me still believes in him, for we've both done things together successfully in the past.
On Monday this week, something happened. I got a call from him to send my account details to him. I hurriedly did and what followed next left me in a huge surprise. I got an alert of 1.5m. At first I thought it was a dream but no, it's reality.
I thank God for it all and more also thank him for this act even though my earlier intention didn't go through. I feel maybe God didn't want me to make that travel at the time.
In everything, I've learn to give God all the praise. Feel so happy over it all.

DeleteIt is an addiction, people borrow from these apps and refuse to pay back, they call their bluff especially as they are not physical people that we see or with physical offices like banks. The most they do to defaulters is to report them to all the contacts on their phones and even threaten the contacts which can be embarrassing.
DeleteA friend's husband was boasting that the money they lend people are grants given to them by international organizations and so he will not pay back and there is nothing they can do to him other than report him to his contacts. He now went to his bank and got another ATM card which makes the apps not to be able to access any money sent to his bank account anymore. I see that act as wickedness. His wife had to close her sim card because they kept calling her and sending her threat messages.

ReplyDeleteSo I read something yesterday in a group I belong to on Facebook and I have been thinking about it since. The summary of the gist is that a young lady started working for a family as a live-in househelp, she said her madam is good to her but before long her oga started disturbing her to sleep with him, and according to her one day "one thing led to another" and she slept with him and she has been sleeping with him since then. After she had been with the family for a while her oga's brother came to visit and when everybody leaves the house for their day she is left alone with the oga's brother and that was how they they started talking and "one thing led to another" and she started sleeping with him too" the brother told her he lives in Abuja but is back here to look for a wife, he told her that he likes her and will want to marry her and even gave her a ring. That was how this girl ( in her early 20s) started sleeping with her oga and his brother on a regular under her Madam's nose until the oga's brother went back to his base and promised to come for her. Even after she got the ring from the brother, she was still gbenshing her oga, according to her, she does not want him to grow suspicious. One day ,recently, her madam called her and told her not to make much food for that night because the whole family will be traveling to Abuja for her( the Madam's) brother-in-law's wedding, the girl said her heart skipped a beat when she she heard Abuja, but she went ahead to ask her madam which of her brother-in-law and that was how madam told her that it was the one that came to visit. She said that since the oga's brother went back to Abuja they have been communicating regularly but after leaving her madam she called him and he did not pick up and he has refused to pick her calls or reply any of her messages since then. Now, she came to ask for advice from the group, she said she is considering going to the wedding with the family that maybe when the guy sees her he might not go ahead with the wedding, lol.
I am not one to judge people for their actions but this one weak me. Several questions have been going through my mind, is the girl just naive? Can one thing really lead to another and you forget every sense of morality? How blind can the madam be that all these were happening under her roof for months and she didn't see it? People dey Sha.

The girl though... The fact that she still has hopes that the brother will not go ahead with the wedding when he sees her breaks my heart... He really brainwashed her with sweet words.
Or she thinks her life is a Nollywood movie where she meets a rich dude who falls for her and then they get their happily ever after ending.
She was just a pawn to them... She should just content with whatever benefits she got from them because I don't even know what to say.
