"Read only" are those contacts that were gotten from third party apps like Facebook,Instagram etc when you install and log in(synchronisation) on your phone..
DeleteTo easily delete;go to CONTACT.GOOGLE.COM then look for the contacts there and delete(log in with gmail if required)
The second option is hard-reset which brings the phone back to default..
