According to the 69-year-old script interpreter, it was insensitive of the businessman to display such affluence; especially at this moment when most Nigerians are wallowing in lack and poverty. She also added that her mother wanted an elaborate burial before her death. She went on to point out that she fulfilled the promise to her mother; even though the burial was not on the same scale as Obi Cubana’s mother.
She said: “I told a friend just days before the most outrageous burial of Innyom Ezinne Uche Iyiegbu in Oba, Anambra State in July that I had given my family instructions on how to bury me when my time comes. Do it quickly, quietly and privately. Celebrate me with prayers, lunch or dinner afterwards. Share some jokes about me and laugh. Mourn, yes, but not excessively. Make merriment and then go about your business. If my friends want to celebrate me, they should do so while I am alive, so that I can enjoy it with them, not when I am gone and have no idea about this. That is me Onyeka Onwenu.
“My mother, on the other hand, wanted a different burial and I promised to give her want she wanted. On her hospital bed, just three days before she passed away, I reinforced that promise – it was important to her and she died knowing that I would keep my word. Hope Onwenu’s burial was nothing like what took place in Oba recently but it was elaborate and pretty expensive. Still I had the satisfaction that I kept my promise.
“The point I make here is that there are different strokes for different folks, even within a family. I do not condemn anyone for how they mourn, with their hard-earned money but I am very uncomfortable with lavish display of wealth on any occasion, especially in a time of hardship and lack for most others.

When u were doing an expensive burial for ur mum, did u consider the hungry and poor people?
ReplyDeleteVery insensitive and snobbish comment from Eka as always. You did not disappoint.😰😰
DeleteHelp me ask o! Does she know if that was also the kind of burial Obi Cubana's mother wanted and he was also only just respecting her wishes?
Deletebeneficiaries of his benevolence was the people that did the burial for him. the burial promote his brand....look at it from a business view.......he now have more sponsor all over the world...remember he is into entertainment .........
DeleteGood question Eka.So the type of burial she did for her late mom was okay but Obi Cubana own was outrageous.
DeleteEverybody get level abeg, the one she terms outrageous maynot look outrageous to Obi and vice versa.
Advisers,advice yourself first!
She should do her things and mind her own family.
DeleteWell, I support Eka Joyooo, makenuna no.roast me, let me explain, her mom's burial.was expensive bc thats how the mom wants it, did u ask Obi Cubana how his mom wanted her own burial to be? No you disbt, that aside, from what I have seen, its the man's benevolence that made the burial how it was, the people he helped were falling over themselves to show him support.
DeleteIn this life it's good to be good, most that came there the actual people that made the burial loud. Make una leave the man alone, try and do what he has done without making noise, with nobody being in the know until now and see what happens when you have cause to gather people be it in celebration or in mourning. Igbo si' ogaranya jelumba akpa ya eju, okwa ndi ona enye nyelu ya'll Abeg no time to translate the igbo, sorry pls
did she condemn the burial? she condemned the lavish display of wealth i.e the way money was thrown around...that burial is not the most expensive in Nigerian history, the condemnation is how they were throwing money around and showing it off...let us separate the 2.
DeleteWell said o
DeleteYou people should let obi cubana rest please. Shoe get size. You buried your own mother lavishly according to your pocket and who you know, he also buried his according to his pocket and who he knows, so what’s the talk. Meanwhile, this man never displayed anything, rather the people that came to mourn with him. Haba, let Obinna iyiegbu rest. Jealousy everywhere.
DeleteHer people will take Note
ReplyDeleteStop telling what to do, we all see life differently.
ReplyDeleteThis difference colours our perspectives on varying issues.
Burial has come and gone.
Move on already
True talk 🙌🏽
Deletewe all live differently but you fools are here everyday condemning how celebrities live their lives. hypocrites
DeleteI mean, let people spend their money the way they want. And also mourn/celebrate the departed as they please. We cant all be the same.
ReplyDeletethe burial promote his brand more
DeleteYou gave your mum a lavish burial according to her last wish and still condemn Cubanas mum's burial. My dear. Poor people will always dwell amongst us. He did the burial according to his capacity. Everyone get level. Help people but please do not forget to make yourself and your immediate family super happy.
ReplyDeleteThey are coming for you maama! In fact, let me start. Could people please stop with the condemnation of how the Oba burial went? It's turning into a bad belle something.
ReplyDeleteA man and his family arranged to bury their mother and most of us didn't even know. Then, a beneficiary of his benevolence decided to gift him 46 cows and posted it for social media clout. That was all it took to turn the event into a carnival. Cows and cash started flowing in like a river. Nah, scratch river; like an ocean. Was he supposed to reject the gifts, mammoth turnout and massive goodwill? Hian!
Rapu zi a nu Obi Iyiegbu ka nwoke madu zukwanike. Na him mama burial loud, he no kill person. Maama Onyeka, you respect your own mother give am "big burial" as your power reach. Which means, if you get reach/pass Cubana, you for do pass am. Loud burials go soon turn to competition now for UAR. E no freak me and e no vex me; let them spend "their" legit money as they please. O gini di!
Tell them!.No one even heard that Cubana was preparing for the moms burial if not What Chief priest caused. They should allow this man rest naw haba
DeleteThank you jare, na the people him help support am!!! Full stop, I see nothing wrong in that, abi should he have rejected the gifts?🤷
DeleteI thought they said he still helped 300 youths in oba with 1million naira each after the burial?
Thank you! Onyeka did according to her power (which she acknowledged was elaborate). Obi did according to his power too (also elaborate). Why is his own now pinching her??? If she had his resources, her elaborate burial would have obviously matched his own. I don’t understand the hypocrisy of some people.
DeleteI do think that the men ‘stoning’ money in the name of spraying was Ostentatious though.
Only morons will believe Obi Cubana’s stories about his wealth. His clubs Pablo Cubana, even Cubana. The other has the inscription “The world is yours”. Everything about him and his business screams that he adores Colombian drug lords. The world is yours is shown in the movies Scarface as Tony Montana the drug lord. Obi’s club is Pablo Cubana. His best friend in Abuja is Escobar Smith. Obi is a drug lord laundering his proceeds through hotels and clubs.
DeleteObi cubana carry go. You did well for your mum. Anyone that has money do what you can to make his or her burial beautiful
ReplyDeleteHis mother,his money,his choice.
ReplyDeleteMummy they will soon come for you o
ReplyDeleteeveryone is chastising the guy but noone is considering that maybe that's how HIS MOTHER told him she wanted to be buried? noone is responsible for making you feel adequate or for guarding your eyes and your feelings. That is fully YOUR responsibility! if u have any insecure feelings of jealousy or inadequacy or any negative feelings then that is for YOU to deal with, not Obi Cubana. person bury him mama how he saw fit and til today people are writing 10 page theses on it. abeg rest! all the humility and hiding of riches that others have done and still the country is backwards. be worried about that instead of how to bring a man down that paid final respect to his OWN mother. the problem with nigerians is the mindset of lack, complain and criticism that they have within them. A person in touch with his/her higher self would have taken the show of wealth as an opportunity to affirm, pray and manifest even more wealth for him/herself. BUT NO! Nigerians their own is to complain. once again, REST! so good things can happen to you too
ReplyDeleteno. his mother did not say throw bundles of money around anyhow. nobody is condemning the big burial. it is how money was thrown around she is talking about. forget cows, i know events they have spent more money than this burial. we are quick to analyse criticisms without understanding the issue
DeleteObi cubana sent his mum forth the way he knows best with lots of funfare.
ReplyDeleteAllow people to bury their dead in which ever way they want to
Nigerians still staying in people's business yet confused as to why their own lives don't progress. pls tell me how Obi Cubana burying his mother affects you in a negative way? what you focus on is what will grow if u don't know. so if u stay jealous, focused on another man's excesses instead of developing yourself what do u think will continue to happen? Make una wake up o.
ReplyDeletewas this necessary? this is unbecoming of a feminine, classy lady to even be bothered enough to comment on this. Onyeka Onwenu showing once again that she is not as classy as she wants us to believe. Classy people mind their business, are happy for others and make their words expensive to hear.
ReplyDeletewhy are people dragging this thing like this? it's kinda irritating and pathetic
ReplyDeleteOh well, to every man his/her wish.
ReplyDeleteno, this is witchcraft o. many people in this country need special deliverance. so you are jealous of how respect was paid to a dead woman? A DEAD WOMAN. read it again. alot of nigerians need help and therapy o cus idunno how u can be jealous of how last respects were paid to a dead woman. no be juju be dat?
ReplyDeleteWhy condemn him for burying his mum in an expensive way when you did the same? I don't understand.
ReplyDeleteMadam, go and rest biko!
ReplyDeleteDon't mind them. It only sits right when they are the ones doing it. But once another they least expect outperforms them, na so sermon go start. I watched as my so called...disdainfully changed the video sent because no be her family show off. You don't tell people how to live. Much more, it was his well-wisher that did more of the spending which speaks volumes for these selfish, self-centered and wicked Nigerians writing epistles about someone's mum's burial rather than watch the video and pass. I am not rich but I love the way igbos humiliate money knowing they are "second class" citizens in their own country with no interest in "politricks" as a major source of income, mtcheeews.
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand why people can't just mind their business and have peace of mind. My Jesus said the poor will always be with us. Do you know that the burial brought small jobs to the people of that place. Mama Onyeka please face our government causing the high rate of poverty... please ma. face Buhari.
ReplyDeleteSince I started learning to face or mind my business there is a peace that comes with it.
I never knew the Obi Cubana well on social media, only the celebrity barman. It was this burial that made me to know him. To show he is a down low guy. May God help us all.
... MadeNew...
Like we didn't know your kind of lady in the past, I wonder who told u what to do with ur life then.
ReplyDeleteAllow ppl do what they want with their mother and money, is not yaa concern madam
Very well said. In her younger years, whose advice was she taking?
Deletealot of nigerians are such bloody hypocrites...so you all know it is good to mind your business but you all are always in other peoples business commenting and insulting...its amazing how you all want society to be better but when the wrong things are complained about you see them barking. some of us are middle age and have enjoyed some good in this country, but you upcoming generation that are suffering and smiling will not hear the truth. a lot of you on here are frustrated, no money, no relationships to write home about but you think it is okay to see people throwing money on the ground anyhow? yes some of you can be disciplined even in your lack but is it everyone who has that self control? did anyone say dont donate to the burial? see how children were scrambling for food like vultures, is that what we want to see? the number of igbo boys all over the place trafficking drugs and girls prostituting in the name of runs is that what we want to continue seeing? is that not why the average igbo boy wants to make money at all cost to shine at home or bury their own parents in style "legit or not". the western world puts an eye on us because of our stupid ways we disguise as culture. young people are watching and some of them will want to make this money anyhow. you all expect young people to learn hard work and honesty but you gather in the name of burial and people are throwing money anyhow and you all say it is ok.. if the send money to Obis account will the burial not hold? no it has to be done to they know they have arrived. yet we want young people not to have the show off mentality. bunch of hypocrites stop complaining about a system you encourage with your actions. only God knows the number of young girls who prostituted themselves in Oba. if onyeka's mum wanted a loud burial it definetly wasnt one to be done without decorum and i dare say Obis mum did not ask that money should be thrown around anyhow. we need to start doing things right and teaching the younger ones to do things with decensy. spraying money is not the problem because this has been happening in naija tey tey, but in a country where alot are hungry and poverty in the land dont be throwing money around like that in the name of let people do what they want. it is just show off mentality period...for those of you who are half baked readers, i did not blame Obi here cos he probably did not ask for it, but all those who were doing it did not do well..
ReplyDeletePlease write an epistle just as long to criticize the government that has brought more poverty than succour. There was poverty in Nigeria before Cubana buried his mom. We have the natural resources but our government steal and mismanage our commonwealth. Face the government first anon or ask the government to jail anyone who throws a big burial party or sprays money. Cubana did not cause Nigeria's woes.
DeleteWell said anon, well said.
DeleteWhy don't I hear u ppl complaining when musicians like Davido, Wizkid and all those Akpala and juju ppl are disrespecting or gyrating on top of cash? When u start condemning these things in their entirety, the youths will take u serious. Otherwise, u merely sound envious or biased.
DeleteThe burial has come and gone. We ought to have moved on.
ReplyDeleteBurial that has been forgotten..
ReplyDeleteMama that is your wish. You no know wetin obi mama wish for. Besides, na Obi get money, na Obi spend am.
ReplyDeleteMembers of his “inner circle” made the burial what it was. Your interpretations of inner circle is up to you. In Nigeria nothing seems what is. Let Obi swear that his money is clean. A beg make we leave matter. Na who they catch be thief. After all cubana chief priest was Hushp right hand man even sharing jacuzzi photos before they fell apart. Show me your friends. We believe Invictus Obi was clean to have been featured in Forbes magazine until kassala burst. Nobody holy pass for naija
