Nigerian Lady Tweets That She Was Deported From Cape Verde Because She Is A Nigerian...

On Friday, Teni, a Nigerian Lady who lives in Dakar, Senegal says she was deported from Cape Verde because she is Nigerian....

Read to the end.

''So I got deported today. Mostly because I am black but also because I am Nigerian.

I got on a flight to Praia, #CapeVerde from Dakar, Senegal but have now been sent back to Dakar.

Everything was fine until we got to the airport in Praia. Then some of us were pulled aside because we were there to visit. This group included an Italian couple, my Sudanese-American friend, a Spanish couple, a Kenyan, an Ivorian, a Jordanian, a Guinean and four Nigerians.

All of the white people were allowed to go through as well as my black friend with an American passport. Then some woman came and snatched the passports from the rest of us without any explanation. Another guy came and told us that they were sending us back.

Why? That we were not allowed to visit because of COVID. Then we asked why the white people and my American friend were let through. They said they decided who could stay and who could go. So everyone with a Western passport went through. In West Africa. In #CapeVerde.

I guess the first sign that something was off was when my AirBnB host asked my nationality then told me to come with some evidence of funds if I was traveling with a Nigerian passport. Funny thing is the only thing they looked at were our passports. Didn't ask for anything else.

The only non-black person that was deported with us, a Jordanian, thinks he was lumped with us because he has Nigerian visas in his passport. Before we left this morning, my American friend was joking about her passport privilege. Who knew we were about to learn how true it was.

I've been having a lot of conversations with friends that have been unsuccessfully trying to convince me to "get a second passport". So this was a stark reminder about the reality of being a Nigerian in the world and in Africa. Good bye #CapeVerde. Shame on you.''

  5. Before you start blaming government, Nigerians were called "Mapoka" in Cape Verde for a reason. For those that only started listening to news yesterday, go and do your research. If you blame the government for everything, why do we go to a good country and still mess up. Ask yourself what an average South African think of Nigerians, please be sincere in your analysis o. What do you think an average Oyinbo, Asian and Indian think of us Nigerians, even in the obodo abroad, that there are plenty opportunities, we still do drugs, yahoo and defraud the government of United States, see liver. can you beat that. Ghanians have their reservations about us even though we are closest to them. I have been to like 5 West African countries and they ask me where I'm from in Nigeria, believe it or not. I mean both English and French countries in Africa don't trust us one bit. And when I finally meet our people there, I deny my citizenship, why? Because I dey shame for them. They live like they own the host countries, they are loud, talk down on people, show off is their name, they go in and out of prison for drug related crime and yahoo even high commission get tired of sending staff. It's shameful. Why do Nigerians commit crime abroad, is it PMB pushing them since 90's. As for Cape Verde, ask any of your uncles to give you gist of their dirty deals in the 90's and how the authorities of that country detest anything Nigeria. Philippines and Thailand have plenty things to say about us not our government.

    1. Maybe you should check the kind of circles you roll in before coming to write epistle online. There are decent successful Nigerians in the US, UK and several other countries.

    2. I totally agree with you but bulk of the blame lies with the government. Imagine if the government had developed Nigeria like Dubai or Malaysia. These countries were worse off than Nigeria in the 60s but what is the story today? They developed with their resources but Nigeria looted its resources for selfish gains.

I will never deny my country no matter what!

That means denying your heritage, family, friends.....

  6. Any country Nigerians rush to en mass ,they always end up soiling our image and creating difficulties for genuine Nigerians, a lot of us believe that bad manners are a sign of being smart and sharp, anywhere we go we just fuck up, an interview was done on foreign cabin crew that fly into Nigeria, my eyes were filled with tears about their comments and the funniest part is that the never do wellsin society are the ones spoiling our image both abroad and on social media

    1. Stop generalizing. There are criminals all over the world, it's people like you that act like other nationals don't commit crime at all. Nonsense.
