With all the happenings, one has to be intentional in choosing to be happy and being conscious about unburdening the extra weight of pain, lack, loss, fear and that feeling of losing one's peace of mind by doing what makes one feel good.
Different things work for different people and at different times.
Some take a long walk when it hits them, others listen to cool music or read a book. It's not surprising to hear about those who engage in rigorous exercise to maintain their soul's equilibrium and calm their minds.
The instant chefs distract themselves by cooking up a storm in the kitchen and another person feels better from the thorough spotlessness of a well cleaned house.
For me, I find great relief in the supposedly 'meaningless' things like the heady smell of clean clothes after it is sun dried. The pitter patter noise of the rain as it hits the roof, the sweet scent of rain as it hits sun parched earth and the delightful sounds of welcome from the kids when you return home and they look on with expectancy to receive their goodies.
Sometimes the major things fail woefully at giving us the inner peace we seek. The ones we think are irrelevant and too little to deserve our attention are what truly give us that therapeutic effect.
Take a minute to luxuriate in the little things.
I just go to Canada Embassy here;look at their gate and fence;smile and come back homeππ

ReplyDeleteSighs,no good news at all in Nigeria. Only God can save us now. I'm currently out of job but I resolved to let nothing or anything disturb my peace.
ReplyDeleteI too like the smell/scent of clean clothes when it has been sundried especially bedsheets.
I also love the smell of rain when it hits the earth, i listen to music, read or call my loved ones to cheer me up.
ReplyDeleteMy first child is such a sensitive human being, if he notices you are unhappy, he just says or does the most thoughtful things to cheer you up.
A good sleep also helps.
That smell is petrichor.
DeleteHope you're not among those who go looking for ΓΉlΓ³ to lick once rain starts. Too bad.
I'm a pluviophile;w it's raining I'm all smiles and love the sound when the raindroplets hit the roof. Mmmhhhh.
Another is singing and dancing in the shower.
Sipping chilled pineapple and lemon juice.
Shopping. Hmmmmm. Tedious but I just love it.
I study and meditate on God's Word especially the New Testament, the teachings of Jesus.
ReplyDeleteI leave my gospel music streaming while at it. Sometimes I go to lonely places; inside a
church or hotel gardens. The peace is indescribable when I study and pray in these places.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace. ππππππππππππππππππππππππ
