Benjamin Kalu, he spokesman for the House of Representatives, has declared that the House is broke and in need of more funds.
He argued that the budget for the National Assembly was done when the exchange rate was N180 to one dollar but now that the rate has increased to about N400, there is the need to review the monetary provision for the House upward as well to enable it to cope with its duties.
He also clarified that the N128 billion appropriated for the National Assembly was divided among all the agencies in the parliament, which include about 6,000 members of staff and lawmakers’ aides.
Kalu submitted that it is wrong for Nigerians to think the lawmakers have appropriated a huge sum of money to themselves at the expense of the citizens.
The lawmaker added on Thursday while speaking with newsmen in Abuja that this has made the lawmakers unable to carry out some constitutional functions.

DeleteThey cannot pay minimum wage but want to increase their enjoyment. Okay. God is watching.
DeletePeople might disagree with my comment but this is the best solution for our country right now most especially with decline and dramatically drop in crude oil price. We need a Military govt to govern us. Nigeria doesn’t have that kind of money to be supporting all these doing nothing that called themselves honorables and senators. It start from many States Chairman, their state legislatures to the federal level of the House of Rep to Senators and Govt not only pays them salaries but also give them some kind of financial benefits which to me is a wasteful way to run a country that is broke. We need to curb this nonsense and let the military run this country

The cost of governance is high and the benefits low. Let the house of reps be scrapped!

ReplyDeleteIf the house is broke they should contribute to support it. How possible is it that the budget was done with $180? I remember that since Buhari came to power dollar rate never went down to $180.
ReplyDeleteDear bvs, please in the spirit of patriotism, let's contribute our tokens to support the reps. Please Stella, we will send our contributions to you so you can forward it to them. Remember, givers never lack. Thank you all. Amen.
