Seyi Shay To Contestant after performance:
“One thing is the fact that I just can’t believe what I just heard. Who told you to come here?
Contestant To Seyi Shay: I was nervous
Seyi Shay To Contestant: No, wait. Some body lied to you, someone told you to come here and audition and you need to go back and tell that person that they are not your friend. Cause that was not a good audition. You have a sweet talking voice and it comes out in your singing voice but your performance was terrible. You are never going to make money being a singer.
I love you, you are so sweet but you are not a singer, you are not a singer, after this, hit me up, we will talk but that singing thing is not gonna work okay.”

*I have heard Idol Judges all over the World say worse.......
What is wrong with some Nigerians? Why are they slamming her for saying what she said? There are too many Jobless people on the Internet!!!
Truth is people dont even like Seyi right from time,if she was liked they wld have said shes being "blunt".
ReplyDeleteI guess another issue is the boys age....him being 17,people feel sorry for him.
Im indifferent abt d whole brouhaha to be honest.
I watched it. Immediately the boy came up, I was like "what is a 17yr old doing here"? From his appearance you will see he lacks confidence.
DeleteSeyi said nothing bad in my opinion.
Understand the concept of stage fright and being nervous then you would know why she needed not to be harsh at that point.
ReplyDeleteMy mind is telling me someone will call the boy and make him a star to prove this Lady wrong.
DeleteShe was too vehement, there are ways to make your point without appearing insensitive.🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
ReplyDeleteThank you 🙌
DeleteI think you have not watched other African nations' auditions.
DeleteSeyi didnt say half of what those guys said to contestants.
Make Una free Seyi... She has to be blunt.
She just defended her pay cheque. I've heard worse on idols elsewhere abeg
ReplyDeleteGod bless you jare.Iv heard worse from their favorites and nobody did pim.I’m not even a fan of seyi but Nigerians are one hypocritical lot.
DeleteNot people judging Seyi Shay for what we all love Simon Cowell for. Nigerians don't deserve any show at all.
ReplyDeleteJust leave them with papa Ajasco and company!
Yeyyy... That was brutal 🤣🤣🤣. Papa what?
DeletePapa what??? 😂😂😂
DeleteJesus 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
DeleteExactly! Lol! #spotremover#
DeletePlease it's you love, not we. Speaketh for yourself madam.
DeleteGbam
DeleteI follow you and ask o.
ReplyDeleteShe was a tad bit harsh but it is normal for some judges to harsh. What about Bebe ( not sure of her name) of project game.
IN TRYING TO BE BLUNT, PLEASE ITS IMPORTANT WE SHOW EMPATHY AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE SO WE DON'T GO RUINING PEOPLES SELF ESTEEM AND PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THEMSELVES.SHE WAS WRONG!!
ReplyDeleteThis too 👍
DeleteThank you for your apt response, I don't know what people call being blunt, let your message be critical but not in a condescending manner, destroying people in the end. she was way beyond harsh.
DeleteVery well said Mark!! Thank you.
DeleteDon Jazzy please pick up this young boy call, that young guy will have psychology melt down.
DeleteThank you for your words Mark
Seyi was not wrong
ReplyDeleteThe boy was not good in singing.
She told him politely...music is not for you.
You can write songs hit me up.
Nigerians with sentiment
DEFINE POLITE PLEASE. DEAR @SOMETHING LIGHT, KINDLY FUCK OFF DUURRRLLING! HOPE THIS IS POLITE. THANK YOU.
DeleteSomeone said seyi shay is not fit to be a judge on the show cos she is a music drop out. on twitter.
DeleteThey should try watch strictly come dancing then.
DeleteI saw that guy's other songs on twitter nd tiktok. He isn't that bad. Stage fright made him fumble
DeleteAnon 17:55
DeleteIf you are among the judge am sure you will select all the contestants.
Don't know why you all are bitter.
@prudent...he isn't that bad, means he is a bad singer though not the worst out there.
DeleteHis notes are everywhere, he needs training.
She was too harsh, please. Show a bit of empathy while trying to be honest, your pay won't be slashed.
ReplyDeleteI tire. Everybody will just be forming Mike Tyson on Words street.
DeleteThe fact that Simon Cowell and other judges say worse things doesn't make it right. We don't applaud them when they say those things, we won't applaud Seyi too.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is a teenager were talking about here. How can you say such wicked words to a 17 year old?
👌👌 I don't know when Simon Cowell became the yardstick for showbiz behaviour.
DeleteNne m nara nsusu onu 💋😘❤️
DeleteThis right here 👌👌👌
DeletePls dears, what channel and time does this air on DSTV? Didn't even know this program has started. I love talent shows.
ReplyDeleteChannel 198 Sunday 7pm
DeleteBut you can watch repeat broadcast. Every other day.
151,153,198 Sunday 7pm
DeleteShe lacks emotional intelligence.
ReplyDeleteBecause you can run your mouth on TV uncontrollably in the name of judging dsnt mean you get a bitch pass on SM. Even Simon Cowell still gets schooled on the streets.
The reason she's being dragged is bc the boy in particular wasn't so bad. He was nervous and need a bit of training if you watch the video well. She dragged the guy uneccesarily.
Stella you know sometimes you can be harsh too that's why you don't see anything wrong with what she said. I condemn what she said because some people are not emotionally strong this could lead to so many things and then depression then suicide. Lets learn to be kind with our words sometimes but driving home our criticism in a more compassionate way. Must the judges be harsh who said its a must? Is it not the some motivational speakers or whatever that said correct with love? Abegi.
ReplyDeletePraise, criticize and praise again.

Nigerians hate the truth! That’s why the country is like that...see the sugarcoated president they got in 2015
ReplyDeleteThat's what we deserve na
DeleteOf course, two rude human beings will be on the same side of the fence. No surprise.
DeleteSo Seyi is competing for the harshest judge award or what? Follow follow oyinbo. She can't set a new record of telling a man to go to hell so nicely he's looking forward to it. Shior!!!
DeleteShe's doing her job.
DeleteMabiaku Dede nko?
Hmmm then Nigerians should watch xfactor uk
ReplyDeleteSee Joke Silver, I can't remember one talent show she was a judge in, you can't just but love her.
ReplyDeleteEven when she is not impressed with the contestant's performance, she will find a way to lovingly tell you so without smatching the person's esteem.
We can't always be brutal and say things vaaa as it comes to mind.
Project Fame. Now that's a woman who understands how frail the human confidence can be when it's under intense scrutiny and will do everything in her power to ensure it's not shattered.
DeleteIn project fame, you have people that have scaled that weeding out stage and they are getting reviews from ther coaches.
DeleteI am sure, when they all auditioned, they had people go through same.
This boy can't sing.
Such programs are not meant for you to go and develope talent or get trained, you showcase your talent and it gets fine-tuned.
This young man should have gotten a voice training. His notes are like a cocktail of notes flying about and he is trying numerous ranges and canteen hit one on target.
Maybe seyi laughter was off and knowing Nigerians with sentiments...that boy for now can't sing...with good coaching he will do great.
Best comment so far

American idol of before. Trust me they can’t try it now
ReplyDeleteThe show has only just begun...buyaka!!!
ReplyDeleteSeyi was rude and condescending to that young man. Why didn't she use constructive criticism? Why bring his friends into it?
ReplyDelete...Well people might say Seyi was a bit harsh, given the circumstance and the age of the boy... I haven't watched it yet, I can't say anything on that.
ReplyDeleteHowever what will plainly be lies, (been seeing lots of attack on her person on social media) is attack her singing prowess. That woman's vocals is one of the best we have in this country, as far as I am concerned. She doesn't get enough accolades due her, I must confess.
Very true. I love love Seyi's voice.
DeleteSeyi is a dope vocalist
DeleteBurna boy, Davido, Wizkid, Zlatan etc remind me of their voice again? My only issue with her statement is telling him he won't make money in music. Simon Cowell is brutally blunt but he doesn't shatter whatever dream you have outside the show.
ReplyDeleteSeyi is an envious person, this show just confirmed it. She lets raw talents slip off, I think she feels intimidated these talents. But on this case the guy is not so good, her judgement was harsh
ReplyDelete"You are never going to make money from being a singer" Is Seyi God? She sounds like a witch
ReplyDeleteOne of these singers i don't know if it Was Shakira or lady gaga music teacher said she sounded like a goat.... Well that goat has hit it big time. Taste your words before you spit them out.
I've been watching this season of Nigerian idol and I think Seyi Shay an awesome singer, permit me to say, is a bit too harsh in her criticism. Apart from this issue trending, last time I watched the show, she threw a shade on a girl that auditioned; that her voice will only be good in singing Igbo songs like 'ladder ladder ladder.' Now that was too harsh and not encouraging. She should learn constructive criticism. She acknowledges nice performances and good voices, I must confess.
