Celebrities Storm Headies Awards 14th Edition - Photos...

The 14th Headies awards held at Eko Hotel, Lagos on Sunday February 21,2021

Themed ‘XPLORE’, this year's edition beamed the spotlight on the new tribe of musicians who are pushing the Nigerian and African culture through their music.

Musicians Eedris Abdulkareem and Timaya were given special recognitions for their contributions to excellence and outstanding impact in the entertainment industry while the ineffable Highlife Legend, King Sunny Ade was inducted into the Headies hall of Fame.

In addition to the existing 29 categories, the organisers introduced the Songwriter of the Year category to “bring to the limelight hardworking individuals who have all significantly supported the creation of quality music.” The Album category, Pop/R&B was split into two different categories.

    1. It’s so irritating. I can’t watch Nigerian movies anymore, due to the fake accent. It’s so distracting, especially when they are mixing so many different accents. It’s so obvious they are not used to it.

The one in vogue now is y’all. A lot of my friends in nigeria cannot say 2 sentences without finding a way to bring it in.

I’ve lived in the UK for 22years, since I was 12 and I can still speak normally, even though I’ve lived in UK more than I lived in nigeria. I speak normally with Nigerians, I even prefer pidgin.

The only time my British accent takes over is when I’m at work or with my white friends. The only thing you’ll notice is that I’ve almost completely lost my Nigerian accent so you probably can’t tell what part of Nigeria I am from.

Last time I was in nigeria, one friend was asking me why I wasn’t speaking with an accent when we went out. Her own accent eeh. No be here o. Canadian, Irish, British Liverpool, US and Nigerian all mixed together.

      Very annoying.

    2. Don't mind them, I don't get it as well. I don't understand why people in Nigeria especially OAP pronounce the "ing" at end of words. It's usually pronounced here by primary school pupils during phonics.
It irritates me a lot. My kids have never been to Nigeria but they speak Yoruba very well.
I stopped watching Nigerian movies, just can't go through the stress and headache plus anxiety.

    3. My niece calls it Nigerian foreign accent 🤣😂

“Mummy, I don’t understand her. She’s speaking in Nigerian foreign accent” Lol

Funny thing is that she understands basic Nigerian English that my mum and others speak.

      Fake lives everywhere!

  14. Seems Vee didn't get the memo on the Xplore theme.
Most of the females looking like they all had the same stylist and designer.
    Annie no go with Tubaba?
Nancy Isime is it for me. She looks original and got the theme well represented.
