Why travel when you know already that you have COVID 19?
The TotontoSun reports that despite rules requiring Canada-bound passengers to test negative for COVID-19, a man east of the city reportedly died from the virus Wednesday morning just hours after arriving from Nigeria.....
Just after 6:30 a.m., Durham paramedics were dispatched to a home on Doug Walton Lane in Newcastle for a male complaining of shortness of breath and loss of taste.
The call was upgraded after the 47-year-old lost vital signs.
Paramedics were told he had arrived in Canada from Africa the previous day, and told 911 he believed he had COVID-19.
That information was corroborated by sources, who told the Sun the man arrived in Toronto on a Delta Airlines flight from Detroit Tuesday morning. He got on a connecting Toronto-bound flight after flying from Lagos, Nigeria, to Atlanta.
Sources said the man apparently took a COVID-19 test in Nigeria, but hadn’t received the results before departing.
The man, a married father of two, was pronounced dead at the scene and the Canadian Border Services Agency was notified, sources said.

Nigeria is just an embarrassing country. You know you can pay for a negative COVID test from some government hospitals? This would now make countries place Nigeria on a total travel ban when they peep this corruption.

The type of things people do fir money shocks the hell out of me. It would have been better if he even stayed at home.

DeleteThe covid test is not a major requirement for you to fly Delta airline.
ReplyDeleteMy friend came home in December onboard Delta, he was down with all the symptoms of covid.Another person I know went to UK and came back infected.
I am so scared of travelling even though I have something urgent doing in America.it is so scary.
The new variant of covid appears to kill faster 3-5 days,the person is gone.
It makes sense to suspend every unnecessary trips for now.

In these times of COVID, I don’t hug anyone. Not even my parents. Contacted tracing must be done in Nigeria and even where he spent his layover. This is so sad though. May God comfort his loved ones.

ReplyDeleteSad. Why travel when the virus is a breathing issue and you have to wear a mask so long during that lengthy journey, how does wearing a mask for over 12 hours on this journey helps you when you need all the oxygen you can get.

DeleteMay his soul rest in perfect peace,I think the man took a test in Nigeria and it came back positive for covid but he wanted to travel anyway and did the usual Naija way of bribing to get a fake negative test.too much corruption in Nigeria,how can someone be so greedy without a conscience?no sense of ever doing the right thing considering this has got to do with lives,if you don't even care about your own life,think about others that this would affect,get a covid test,be negative before you get on a plane,it's that simple

DeleteFrom the write up it seems the airline doesnt require tests to fly but the guy did a test which was not ready before he departed. Pls read thoroughly before commenting, most of you are very lazy at reading and comprehending issues.

ReplyDeleteYes he got a fake negative test,you won't be allowed on the plane without a test result,he knew already he was positive from his test but he wanted to travel back by all means.If only he had stayed back,isolate and treat himself
DeleteI dont think it is a requirements for some airlines, it is dependent on the country you are visiting, maybe some countries do not require a test but may mandate isolation

Politicians ARE NOT the problem with Nigeria! Nigerians are! The Nigerian mindset will always be detrimental to the country...and until it is nipped in the bud, the country will forever be doomed!
ReplyDeleteThey say one should not speak ill of the dead, but this article is a clear example of the typical Nigerian-mentality. The "I/me" mindset, rather than the "we/us" mindset. If he had thought of anyone other than himself, he would not have put 100s, if not 1000s of people at risk.
The ticketing officer - just by checking him in and tagging/collecting his luggage has be exposed to covid. That role sees several 100s of people in a week, so all those people are at risk too.
The people he sat in the lounge with, whilst waiting for his flight to board are all at risk.
The flight attendant that served him his food/drinks is also at risk. They also fly numerous destinations a week, and come into so many people on each flight...so all those people are at risk.
If these passengers have connecting flights, then all the airline officials and other passengers they come into contact with are at risk too.
When he landed at his final destination, the immigration officer is at risk. Immigration officers see 100s of people in one shift, so all those people are also at risk. If he/she continues to work throughout the week, one can only imagine how many more people are exposed.
The passengers that stood by him awaiting their luggage at the carousel are also potentially exposed.
If by any chance, any of these people he had close contact with take public transportation, then all those people too become at risk. They will in turn do essential activities like go grocery shopping; go to the bank; go the the pharmacy etc...and then it continues spreading!
As in, it just goes to show you how much we’re connected in this world.

ReplyDeleteHe was very selfish and selfish folks tend to be myopic or shortsighted. I hope his hosts are legally in Canada. SMH 13:30 put it in very clear terms. He flew Delta to Detroit then to Toronto so he came in contact with immigration officials of at least 3 countries, 14 hours in the same plane with many others and since Atlanta is Delta’s hub, he may have had a layover in the lounge not just in MMA but in Hartfield Airport, then DTW in Detroit en route Toronto Airport. He may have been on the line at a fast food place in any of the airports or bought a magazine to read or shopped at any of the stores. I flew via Delta with a stopover at Atlanta to a Central American country just before Covid and also to Toronto before Covid. The immigration lines at Atlanta and Toronto airports for non US citizens was so long it was possible for folks to faint from the humidity they had to go through. I was thankful I was on a shorter line as the line moved slowly especially as we were coming from another country. He must have been in that sort of place and infected even more people including innocent TSA officials and fellow travelers. If you have COVID19, do not travel. From the story he didn’t even seem to go straight to the ER in Canada, I’m not familiar with their healthcare system in CA but he was a wicked person especially if he corruptly got on such a lengthy trip without a negative test. The arrival hall lines are too long even as a us citizen with the “shorter” line but a cough from him in such area will give tens of folks Covid. Be careful embarking on any unnecessary trips. The folks I pity are the ones on official trips for their corporations. Contact tracing is nearly impossible in this case without scaring many people or politicians into panic decisions as Trump would have done.
ReplyDeleteThink of others and think of eternity. Jesus didn’t die to start a religion but a way of life that consistently loves others. Restrooms in the airports, all the escalator railings etc. may we not enter transportation or travel with folks with his mindset.
