Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity disclosed this in a statement on Sunday titled “25m Nigerians to own 5m solar systems at N4,000 monthly.”
Akande was giving insight into earlier reports that the Federal Government will from next week deliver 5 million solar systems to 25 million Nigerians previously not connected to the national grid through Solar Home Systems, under the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP).The earlier report, however, elicited questions from Nigerians who wanted to know the cost of owning the solar system.
Akande explained that beneficiaries will be expected to pay about N4,000 monthly over a period of three years.
He said the solar programme nicknamed Solar Power Naija, for which installations starts in December, is being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency.
“An important aspect of the scheme is the option of outright ownership by beneficiaries at a cost ranging from N1, 500 per week to N4, 000 monthly depending on the capacities, for a period of three years,” Akande said.
He noted that the arrangement will give as many as 25 million Nigerians a chance to own personal solar systems in their homes.

I just no want say na one chance person enter so. God know why. Smh.
ReplyDeleteI don't get this. People that have or are building their houses should by and install their own solar panels. Why are they paying monthly again? But then things are different in Nigeria.
Delete*buy
DeleteMy electricity bill is actually very low, reason being that i use my solar during the day,and use nepa at night till 12 midnight when I change back to solar. The period of nepa is to use ac. My solar is connected to my fridge and feep freezer. If you can afford it on your own, please do,do not collect from government oh. The koko of solar is how many panels you have .
DeleteI am solar powrered from head to toe 24/7 365 days of the year.
DeleteNo generator, no diesel or petrol to power electricity and I am waiting for more electric cars to be delivered to me so I can power my cars with my solar energy to continue to live my life in peace and comfort.
It said it's for those not connected to the national grid. Apart from that, I follow you say na wah
ReplyDeleteThere's mix up in the post, I saw 40k and 4k. From your footnote it seems it's 40k.
ReplyDeleteSo these people are bent on making life unbearable for common man, except the solar is meant strictly for the upper class citizen. It is well o
It's 4K!! And I urge everyone to make their own clarifications from time to time. This is an excellent development and cost effective.
DeleteStella, Nigeria no shock you? As I dey so eehn, I no even dey see myself as a Nigerian again. The country no follow abeg. We wake up every morning to one bad news or policies. Too bad and terrible.
ReplyDeleteTeejay, I knew I would find you here. Kindly go and listen to the news and read up on this. But truth is, you aren't interested in anything as long as it comes from this government Even when it is something positive.
DeletePost Covid19 Scam!
ReplyDeleteThis would only apply if they are installing a solar farm. So what they are paying for will be for maintenance and ensuring that there is regular power supply even during rainy season. But with this current govt, they will bring in the lowest quality and it won't last.
ReplyDeleteIt's better to just buy and install by yourself.
Of course, solar delivered on the pages of news papers. 😏😏😏😏😏😏
ReplyDelete11:40, no. They have already deployed to some sites.
DeleteIt is 4k per house not 40k!
ReplyDeleteIt is a very good innovative and it will be good if it is carried out. BUT you know a country where the politicans/rulers lie so effortlessly citizens are having a hard time believing them.
Sad!
solar is underrated here.
We installed one at the village, it carries 3 freezer about 5 fans, 3 televisions, it's over 1 year, and going to the village is fun! It came with 3 years guarantee.
My husband is planning on installing one here.
I think ours was on a budget of 1.3million.
Exceptional mom, I am tired of explaining.
DeleteWe can be lazy sometimes! Instead of us to do our own research, we jump at incomplete news.
Just like the benefits of owning electricity powered inverters, the solar powered option is Even way better and like most fixtures, the start up cost is the only albatross which is where the government is offering the =N=1,500-4k monthly tariffs till it's fully owned. And as they shared, it's especially for areas that are presently not on the grid.
Ladies and gentlemen, just read up a little. Phew!
Ignorance na disease but I need to ask. I heard it's not good to charge your Android phone with solar power, that it kills the battery life.
ReplyDeleteHow true is this?
17:50, enquiring isn't.
DeleteSolar chargers used to charge a phone directly, rather than by using an internal battery, can damage a phone if the output is not well-controlled, for example by supplying excessive voltage in bright sunlight. Both of these options will help to keep your phone charged by harnessing the power of the sun.
Why 40,000 per month ?
ReplyDeleteIs it not much?
It's 4K!!!! NOT 40K.
