Nigerian Govt Says EndSARS Protest Promoters Must Face The Law

The Nigerian presidency has stated that EndSARS promoters must face the wrath of the law for leading a protest that led to the indiscriminate destruction of government properties.

Garba Shehu, senior presidential aide on media and publicity on Sunday made this known on Channels TV, with his comment backing the recent freezing of suspected EndSARS leaders' accounts.

Shehu, who stated that President Muhammadu Buhari is responsible for his government, said the constitution, though allows peaceful protest, does not give room for riots and violence and noted that the EndSARS leaders who CBN froze their accounts must face the law

Recall that the Nigeria's apex bank was last week given the go-ahead to freeze the accounts of 20 people and a public affairs company linked to the protests against police brutality in Nigeria.

Garba Shehu further explained that with the destruction that trailed the EndSARS protest, the laws of the country must be "allowed to decide."

“I am not particular about any celebrity or promoter but this country has been harmed enormously and people should be prepared to account for what they did. “Now, the laws of the country must be allowed to decide, to rule on wrongdoing on the part of anybody." This country has only one president and has only one constitution. President Muhammadu Buhari is responsible for his government. The buck stops on his table."

Shehu also berated desperate politicians for sponsoring the EndSARS protest and told them to publicly denounce the destruction.

    1. "Peaceful protest" that led to the destruction of lives and properties worth trillions of Naira across Nigeria. Over 20 policemen were killed across the country. Do you even have any conscience at all for saying it was peaceful?

    2. How did we end up with such awkward thinking people? Rather than take learnings and start doing the right thing, they are acting like fools by trying to punish the masses for asking for their right.

    3. Dear Eesaah, while you have the right to your opinion pls can you be honest and straight when making this opinions? How many protesters did you see looting? Name one.

I saw protesters cleaning up after themselves, they conducted themselves and you come here to blame the protesters? I see your concience has been seared with iron. Pls what is true is true and what is wrong is wrong. And it is on record that hoodlums where paid to hijack the protest in case you didn't know. And also just to remind you PMB refuse to address the protesters when he should have. Had he done so at the earliest none of this would have happened.

It's sad what happened afterward but pls don't insult the #endsars# and those of us who come here to read. If you cannot be objective pls keep your mouth shut.

  5. They are doing everything to stop protests in Nigeria. Arresting people, freezing accounts, seizing their passports, and stopping social media as much as they can. Yeah they can run, but they can't hide. When it is time for the inevitable to take place it will irrespective of what they do, because instead of trying to mend their ways they insist on being tyrants.

  6. Hmmmmmmhhh 🤔, they should pray really hard that another protest more massive than the last one should not come up.

  8. One major problem we may be facing in this country is to have hausas in all helm of affairs. They absolutely lack thinking faculty, they act before reasoning and that's why Nigeria is where it is today. Prosecuting those promoters may lead to another protest which even the government may lose country over.

  9. There were over 2 thousand youths at the Lekki Toll Gate that day, and none of them has been declared missing by their Families.

Not until they can provide at least 5 family members of those allegedly killed in the staged Massacre that they used to almost burn down the county, then l support the FG. The sponsors should be brought to book

  11. End SARS promoters were promoters of peaceful protest. The protest was very peaceful until the wicked leaders introduced violence. First they sent someone to run into the protesters with a truck and some vehicle to pretend it was accident. Secondly they paid thugs to attack the peaceful protesters;armless protesters were killed like slaves in their motherland. Thirdly, the sent the military to shoot at armless protesters.

Now, tell me who is to be charged and prosecuted? We came in peace and the government introduced violence and they want us to suffer for the violence they initiated? Where is our human right? What are the Nigerian lawyers doing self. If the lawyers cannot defend the citizens then nobody under my care in future will be allowed to study law

  14. What does 'end sars protest promoters' even mean? This is supposed to be a democratic government, right?

How were the protesters supposed to know that hoodlums will hijack the protest?
They exercised their rights, if the government was proactive and had promptly addressed the concerns of its citizens on this Sarz issue, there would have been no need for a protest.

Go after those who destroyed properties and took lives.

Leave the protesters alone, they were peaceful. This intimidation/silencing strategy won't work. You useless lots will promise heaven and earth before you get into power and turn monsters once you get there.
