For those who seek truth and wisdom, Speaking in tongues has been abused so much in the Christian community because its SOOO EASY TO FAKE IT.
Its way more difficult to fake interpretation so they emphasise of speaking!

ReplyDeleteWhen I did baptism in living faith, (formerly did child baptism by sprinkling in Anglican church) they said i was going to speak in tongues, I prayed desperately for me to speak in tongues cos I sometimes jealous people who speak in tongues, even two of my siblings and my mom speak in tongues.
I do foundation class, them pray make I speak in tongues, foe where, I no see am, e no happen, I vex, say maybe time never reach. Na e I dey so wait. Lol
Anyway I usually hope there could be an interpretation most times, again they mostly aren't in control of what they speak ? I'm not sure, but I have seen people who get a message and in the middle of praying and speaking in tongues... but na only God know. So ehen they pray I proclaim that the will of God be done in my life.

DeleteSame thing happened to me. Everyone spoke in tongues but me. Honestly I didn't even try to fake it but when it finally happened, I wasn't thinking of it. It just came and that's how it continued. One thing is to just surrender yourself. Have you ever just stood outside when the wind blows gently? You're not struggling. You just stay still and let the air flow around you. That's the secret. Surrender yourself and just be free. It will come on you. With my experience, if you're in the spirit, when speaking it, you'll hear the interpretation within. Like another voice telling you. Or someone with you will interpret it.
DeleteAnother thing is, in that moment of peace and surrendering, if someone around you is speaking in tongues, you can pick just one word from it. Remember to be completely in the spirit. Do not overthink anything. Just repeat that one word. Before you know, you cannot control your tongue. It will start and you'll be speaking longer sentences.
In as much as I speak in tongues, I really still can relate to this. personally you can pray and the spirit take over privately for your own edification and publicly for the sake of the people, hence someone else interpreting it so others can understand. The key thing is, if it's real, even a doubting Thomas will understand but once people are bored, it may not be real. So many people fake tongues though because they make people who can't speak appear like sinners. Mine just came one day while I was personally praying. May God help us all
ReplyDeleteWell for me o, whenever I start praying with a prayer point in mind, once I move into the prayer I find myself praying about things I did not plan, people that have not crossed my mind in a long time, situations I have never bothered with, even celebrities I don't even send, they just surface in my prayers and I just flow. 90% of the time issues about myself never come to me in prayers except in my thanksgiving where I begin to remember favours as minute as possible that my conscious self took for granted. Once I start, I have no control till the flow stops. That's my own tongue o. I am silent, I am calm while at it. I don't even go to prayer meetings. I am ok by myself.

DeleteI grew up in a church where I was taught that before one speaks,the person will be endued with the HOLY SPIRIT. The stress is on the HOLY,why? He is holy and enters into a holy being. You do not come to church from sleeping with your bf and time for prayer you start blasting in tongues. After service,you go back to his house.
I have only spoken in tongue once in real life and once in the dream while praying in the dream and I woke up still speaking.
I still remember that I was praying and as time went on,the Holy spirit took over and I felt a very cold sensation like cold water and so much peace wash over me. I didn't know when I started speaking in another language. It wasn't a conscious thing. It went on and on till it quieted on its own. What the Holy spirit does after this experience is to give you boldness in the gospel. You see yourself have courage where you were hitherto shy and timid to share God's word anywhere. He gives you prayer points and leads you on what to pray for. The tongue speaking helps you to wage unknown wars and battles with spiritual wickedness.
Nowadays, I just see in church how everyone just opens their mouth and start mumbling gibberish or whatever it is they had practiced overtime.
I asked a friend why she is always saying same thing in the name of speaking in tongues and she told me that it's cause she hasn't been practicing.🥺🥺🥺🥺whaaaaat!!!
That was the first time I heard that not until I heard a minister say same thing. Like people practice speaking in tongues?
For all I know,I haven't been able to speak again since then due to the fact that I have been busying myself too much with world things.

This is to was my experience too.for a catholic, it was out of my comfort zone when the Holy spirit came into me.

There are different types of tongues for different occasions. There are tongues for personal edification, tongues for congregational edification, tongues for Warfare, tongues for praise and worship... The Holy Spirit determines the tongues to be spoken.
ReplyDeleteInterpretation of tongues is not compulsory unless when a message that concerns the congregation is been relayed and most times there will be an interpreter, otherwise tongues are mostly for edification.

On the day of Pentecost, when the disciples spoke in tongues, Read Acts 2, you'll see that those languages were identified. They were all earthly languages. This made other people surprised because they were speaking their own language. Very different from what we see today. wetin be 'bababaa robosikbereree . Did you see "cloven tongues like as of fire" fall on others that received the Holy Ghost baptism subsequently? Acts 19:2-6

Uti is absolutely right. I once shared on SP that speaking in tongues does not mean one has recieved the Holy Ghost. The problem is that people are made to believe that once you begin to say those gibberish, it automatically means you are filled with the Holy Ghost. Or when praying, you need to speak in unknown tongues in order to scare the devil. But in reality, the devil will actually be laughing because your gibberish means nothing to him as he only understands when you command him with plain language using the Word.

The word 'tongues' is also referring to languages meaning speaking in other languages that can be clearly understood by the people who understand the language. Even though pastors are responsible for teaching the right things, when we come across conflicting issues we need guidance to ask the right questions. We also need answers from Men of God who teach otherwise, is it that they do not understand as it is written or they choose to go the way they think it's acceptable to many

Act 19:6 Then when paul laid is hands upon them, the Holy spirit came upon them. They spoke in tongues and prophesy.
Romans 8 :26 And the Holy spirit helps us in our distress.For we do not know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray but the Holy spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
So who says tongues has to be another language when the Bible says it can be groaning that cannot be expressed in words.

ReplyDeleteSpeaking in tongues is not for bragging rights. It's should come from a place of deep desire to communicate with God. Our human mind is so limited, our language and mode of expression is too. Speaking in tongues helps you to pray God's exact will.
ReplyDeleteNow under the general gifts of the spirit. We have gifts of prophecy, great faith, speaking in tongues etc and Interpretationof tongues. Here Speaking in tongues is for public ministrations. It requires interpretation. You can't prophesy to people in tongues and not interpret it. There will be confusion.
The gift of interpretation is not a general gift. It is given to specific people for specific purposes.
1 Cor 12 :11 Its the one and Holy spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
Here the word, the gift of diverse of tongues would suffice, wher someone without pre knowledge of language speaks or prophecy in such language. Since its for public ministrations it requires interpretation.
DeleteI believe not all tongues can be interpreted. it is a heavenly language and intercession for us by the father. sometimes in a gathering of believers the gift of interpretation of tongues is in operation and sometimes it might not. are you even meant to be saying amen when someone is praying in the spirit? personally for me i get a prayer point i never even planned for when i start praying in the spirit. sometimes i have a list of request to pray about but when i start praying in the spirit i only start to worship and thank God.
