Nigerian Army Denies Shooting EndSARS Peaceful Protesters At Lekki Tollgate.

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army on Tuesday debunked the report of military officers shooting at End SARS Protesters at the Lekki toll gate on Tuesday October 20,2020.

The Acting Director Army Public Relations, Major Osoba Olaniyi, in a statement, however, confirmed the involvement of soldiers in restoring order in Lagos following the declaration of curfew by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The statement reads, “The attention of Headquarters 81 Division Nigerian Army has been drawn to a viral video on social media in which it was alleged that civilian protesters were massacred by soldiers at Lekki Toll Plaza. This allegation is untrue, unfounded and aimed at causing anarchy in the country.”

“At no time did soldiers of the Nigerian Army open fire on any civilian. From the onset of the ENDSARS protest, there was no time personnel of 81 Division Nigerian Army Lagos were involved.”

“However, the decision to call in the military was taken by the Lagos State Government (LASG) after a 24- hour curfew was imposed.”

“This was as a result of the violence which led to several police stations being burnt, policemen killed, suspects in police custody released and weapons carted away.”

“The situation was fast degenerating into anarchy. It was at this point that LASG requested for the military to intervene in order to restore normalcy.”

“The intervention of the military followed all laid down procedures for Internal Security operations and all the soldiers involved acted within the confines of the Rules of Engagement (ROE) for Internal Security operations.”

“Finally, Headquarters 81 Division Nigerian Army reiterates Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities did not shoot at any civilian as there are glaring and convincing evidence to attest to this fact.”

“This allegation is the hand work of mischief makers who will stop at nothing to tarnish the image of the Nigerian Army. The general public is hereby enjoined to discountenance this allegation as there is no iota of truth therein.”

  1. The Army are trying to shift it on Lagos state government. Sanwo Olu, it's about time you open up and tell the world the truth else they will rubbish and heap everything on you. Now you understand why Jubril didn't mention the Lekki toll gate cos they have decided they will deny it.

  3. Since no one is accepting to be the ones that shoot the protesters then we should say they shoot themselves right.

What a failed country, what a heartless government. Their blood shall be upon all those we planned their killing.

I don't know why God is too silent to fight with all what is happening. Your children has been crying and calling your name yet you have been silent too long. Act, fight and restore back peace in this country.

  7. Stella calm down. We are getting closer to the truth. We thank the Army for this beautiful statement they were outrightly denying they were involved at all. Then Sanwo Olu quickly ran to press to confirm they did it. Its baby steps but we are getting there. This is a classic show of accountability/ responsibility. Let them keep apportioning blame but let's be grateful that they have acknowledged they were there. To prove what they did there to disperse the crowd won't be an issue. One by one, they will dig their own graves. What I know is that heads will roll. Whomever was involved in this, will not know peace.

    1. These people are liars. The violence, burning of BRT buses, burning of police station and killing of police officers, looting e.t.c started after the soldiers went to shoot at the harmless protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate. May God judge all of them involved in the killing of those protesters.

    2. In the constitution it is the police that have the jurisdiction to enforce curfew and not the army..Police is to ensure peace, Army is for war therefore whether Sanwolu ordered army or not..The bulks stops at the Commander in Chief Buhari Table becos he has the sole power to deploy soldiers...So I am happy that a lot has been revealed, the gaslighting is not working

  13. Dont we have witches and juju men in this country anymore or are they happy with the government. Are they happy with Buhari and Co?
Why can't they send thunderbolt to this people or the government has a stronger juju than them.

  14. These folks think we all are as pathetic as they are. That sour faced army chief has finally admitted that the army was indeed at the Lekki Toll Plaza that day after Sanwo-Olu called the military out on CNN. Where they there as observers of what? We know how trigger happy the poorly trained army personnel are. This is the first step at least. The blood of those they killed will continue to confuse and lead to them speaking the truth.

    Rest on comrades.

So we shouldn't believe the live coverages, the eye witness accounts and even the media outlets that saw the shootings.

Thank God for technology and social media.

If these events happened 10 years ago, we all would have swallowed the super story from the Nigerian Army

  16. I confronted one from a group of soldiers sent to guard ShopRite. He denied all the allegations heaped on soilders. At first he wanted to intimidate me, but once he realised I am not the type he quickly mellowed down.
He said they shot in the sky to dissameble the public and not at the people and how they are out on the streets to get rid of the hoodlums.

  20. Thought they denied being there at first,
Now they have agreed they were there, so all those with bullet wounds shot themselves abi? They should keep telling lies.
They were given order by Lagos state government but Sanwo olu said he was not aware of it.
    God will punish you all

  21. Initially you said you were never there and termed all as fake news. One useless army PR did a press statement that the video was Photoshoped, like seriously? Who Photoshops a live video feed in this age that we all saw. Now the story has changed that the army came there on the directive of the Governor but didnt shoot. Now if the army didnt shoot, who then pull the trigger. By admitting to be there, you have shot yourself in the foot. With this inconsistency in their story, they know what really transpired on that day and i am sure Sanwo knows this too. It is unfortunate that these are the kind of animals we call leaders. Now Mr Gov over to you to refute this claim by the army that you sent them there to do the Devil's work.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Stella, do you still believe in our leaders in this nation, i for once dont believe that we have leaders. Like Fani Kayode rightly said, the truth of the Lekki shootings will only be revealed when Buhari have left the government, lots of cover up ongoing. In the interim, it is only God that exert judgement on all those involved and i believe He has started his judgement. None of all them will escape the judgement of the Almighty God, enough of shedding of innocent blood in Nigeria.
