Most persons have that one that thing that they are willing to spend a large chunk of their earnings or savings on and it's not just a one-off thing, it's something that they constantly indulge in and the 'high' they get from purchasing these items is enough to compensate for the huge amount spent.

Mrs Dee's Corner -Expensive Luxury Items Some People Buy Without Blinking An Eyelid
While some are phone and electronic gadgets freaks, subscribing to the websites of popular brands to be updated on their latest models and products and even go ahead to purchase them, others derive immense pleasure and satisfaction from going on a spending spree when it comes to designer perfumes, bags, shoes, wigs, clothes, time pieces and even home appliances.
It's like an addiction and the only way to scratch the itch is to splurge on the luxury items of their interest. And just like any hard substance, those controlled by these compulsive buying get their satisfaction from just watching the number of items they have been able to accumulate.
I have a big aunty who was unable to save any tangible amount of money after many years of working because her addictions were on expensive shoes and bags. She had them in abundance and even bought some on credit with the promise to pay in installments.
When she realized that she was yet to have strong investments in lands, properties and stocks, she had to sit down, reevaluate and drastically cut off on her bad spending habits.
I've also heard of a distant family member who changes her home appliances annually. From the cooking pots and pans, to the TV, fridge, blender and furniture.
Once she hears that the latest products have some amazing features like pots that are healthier for cooking and the latest blending machine that can blend the hardest grains and nuts in the shortest minutes possible, she wouldn't rest till they are in her kitchen.
Once in a while , extravagant spendings are necessary to show that it shouldn't be 'all work and no play' . Sometimes 'Jack' needs to enjoy what's been worked for. But when it becomes obsessive, then it's something to be worried about.
One cannot spend what one does not have abeg...Everyone is not tuned the same way..some people dont care about investments,I mean why invest when you wont live forever? Some of these investments are the reason some households begin to fight each other once the owner passes....
Na person wey get money dey spend am oh...

Stella u always hit the nail at the head.I love you for that....I love to buy quality dresses shaa.I can spent my last money just to get a nice dress.I love gowns shaa
ReplyDeleteHigh five sis, the gown club
Deletethere's no amount of money I can't spend on a good bag and gold. As long as God keeps providing, even if it's $10k I will buy. I invest and also give to charity and struggling people around me but I treat myself as an incentive to continue to work hard.
DeleteOmo I cant relate for now. Even to buy something of 5k naira for myself is a big deal. When my income upgrades I will come back to comment. Thank you Jesus for my provisions so far.
ReplyDeleteSame here oooo. 'I am not satisfied but I am not hungry'
DeleteAmen on your behalf .
DeleteI'm addicted to gold Asin real gold, though in form of jewelries.evetymonth I remove so part of my salary for gold.now a gramm is 32k..I buy as little as a gramm sef.any hewejew u see on me is pure gold no matter how big or small.
DeleteThe good thing is I can sell whenever I'm broke.Few months ago I sold a necklace for 85k and I bought that same necklace 33k some yrs back. So is win win for me.
@14:05 you and my sister are the same she's so into gold .
DeleteI think she inherited that from my mom during the pandemic she decided to weigh some of her gold and surprising the prices had trippled.
Gold is good investment.
Its jewellery and designer bags for me. I think gold jewellery is still the best because u can always sell when u need money for smthn. When u get tired too,u can carry all, sell and add money to buy new ones.
DeleteI know a lady dat sold her jewellery to complete the house she was building when things got tough for dem. Some have even sold to send dere kids abroad for school. With clothes, shoes, hair u can hardly do that.
Anon 14.05. please where do you buy your gold from? I need to get some gold pieces and I don't even know where to go to. I am afraid of being scammed in this port Harcourt. Do you have a dealer or you just go to the gold market to buy?
Delete@anon if you have family in dubai they could help you or when you visit abuja .
DeleteDon't buy from phc
Yes stella, I agree with ur comment but once u are obsessed with something and unable to get it, u wont be a happy person and you will feel unfulfilled till u are able to buy the tin even if it's small earrings.
ReplyDeleteNothing I own comes cheap. I only go for the best in everything
ReplyDeleteAwon fake girl on the blog, food don land o. Poor fools!
Hahaha, you already started attacking without waiting to be attacked first.
DeleteYou taking cover,no time .

DeleteFake girl feeling funky
Stella you didn't post my reply to her but you allowed a reply that calls blog visitors poor Fools, if yoi wont post my reply then you shouldnt have posted her insult on every hardworking visitors of this blog who are poor according to her, but still buy data to visit this blog.
DeleteFake girl feeling funky
Kwakwakwa see as u don dey throw insults cos u know u are FAKE..rich babes don't brag, but awon fake it till u make it like u are always making noise.
DeleteShooter gyal, calm down! There are a lot of people on this blog who only go for the best of the best but the difference is they don't have this your "gutter rat" attitude of always displaying your crass upbringing.
DeleteNo matter how expensive you may dress or try to act, class and pedigree can never be bought.
Your so called best in everything is someone else's thrash/rags so, be wise! You can comment without the tag "poor fools"...
A fool u will forever remain shooter bitch!go fuck urself bitch u are d true definition of d word FAKE*
DeleteStella why withhold my comments nahhh? Please allow me express myself ma.
Deleteme i decided early in life not to join the rat race of buy buy to please people.....i had to stop buying jewelry for me because i found out that there were some i will buy, 1 year i neer wear am..i een had to stop buying gold and just kept a few left like inestment. i hae a few more years in serice and i must see where my salary went to. thankfully i am the owner of a 2 and 3 bedroom flat in abuja. i am a lady and i tell young girls, the desire for shoes, clothes, bags and now hair no dey finish.. you can buy land, build house etc, it only takes a willpower.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with your 'V' key? It makes your comment very funny...
DeleteNothing wrong in investment and nothing wrong in pampering yourself either if you can afford it.
DeleteTo me, investments may not necessarily be for you but for your family. At least to have that rest of mind they will be looked after even when u are no more.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, as much as investment is important, it is also important to pamper yourself from time to time. That is the one I'm trying to learn how to do now.
I looooove quality shoes, and clothes, and I can spend on them (not my life savings sha). Not really a bag gal.
ReplyDeletethank God nothing controls me now. i use to be into jewelry till my last gold i bought was stolen. i just wore it only once and boom did not see it again. e pain me cos i buy them also as a way of keeping money and not spending it...in life there must be balance, you cant chop all and refuse to plan for tomorrow at the same time saing all and not chopping while you are here is foolishness. let all things be done in moderation
ReplyDeleteHmm, why invest when you will not live forever? Hmm, that person should ensure he/she dies while working. Poverty in old age is the origin of the Black Tax. Thinking like this prevents the build-up and transfer of wealth or income generating assets to future generations, this is what translates into being subservient to the west and the wealthy class, not as individual families but as a people.
ReplyDeletePlease balance your indulgences with a desire to live comfortable, should you live long.
Stella, right now mobile data is that item for me but should the money be made available, anything and everything technological related is that item. I'm a sicker for new shinny technology. Vintage cars too
ReplyDeleteStella, right now mobile data is that item for me but should the money be made available, anything and everything technological related is that item. I'm a sicker for new shinny technology. Vintage cars too
ReplyDeleteNa who get money they buy expensive things.
ReplyDeleteI always cut my coat according to my account.na second hand and braiding get me till baba God reason my matter.
God go help us
DeleteDoes recharge card and data subscription qualify as luxury items?
ReplyDeleteBecause its scary the way I spend money on these things even when i'm broke
I'm a Stickler for exotic wares and items( for home and personal effects). I'm sorry about that, can't help it.
ReplyDeleteNa follow come, as a daughter to Ada Nwanyi Obosi, hahaha..
If the glitter is worth it, I purchase, one time. No blinking, Igbos call it "etiokwe, erie okwe". You make the ego igwe, you chop the ego igwe.
My weakness remains shoes and bags though, reason I personally rate people by their feet and hands(timepiece inclusive).
Errm Mrs D that your Aunty that buys any new kitchen ware, I for like be her friend o,hahaha. Love me a classy kitchen.
Cooking made easy is the watchword.
I'm hardly an impulsive buyer and rationalise most times before buying a very expensive item.
ReplyDeleteI splurge only once in a while, and mostly because I can afford it at that point, not having to spend my livelihood on an item.
The only items I splurge on are phones( because I purchase only once in 2-3 years), and so I try to buy the latest, got a Samsung galaxy s20 recently, then maybe clothes for special occasions.
For those who splurge often, if they can afford it, why not? No be my money👐💰
I have gotten to the point where I can buy whatever I feel like. I spend money on myself, go on short vacations and all that.
DeleteDo I have a weakness? I don't think so! Hell, I don't even have a vise...
Vice...
DeleteAs for me, I enjoy going to expensive stores to look at their items from clothing to accessories to furnitures just name it. I enjoy window shopping not bcos I can’t afford it o. I just like to go there and look. Is that obsession as well?
ReplyDeleteI thought I am the only one with this habit,😀😁😂
DeleteNothing wrong with window shopping IMO.
DeleteI thought i was an impulsive buyer till i met my husband, ha
! I had to use my head biko, two of us can not be spendthrift.
Recently i splurged on some vanities and it felt soooooo good.
@Gifty that satisfaction is bae !!!!
DeleteWow
DeleteAnything that makes me go window shopping and I see any item that tickles my fancy, I must buy it if not I'll be restless.
I've had cases where I had to go back the next day because the item would not leave my mind.
Can't remember the last time I bought myself a nice wear talk more of electronic gadgets... I believe my story is changing soon.
ReplyDeleteMake we #EndSars first...na person wey dey alive dey buy expensive things 😊
ReplyDeleteYou are so right Stella, in as much it is good to save and be prudent with spending, it is very good to take care of yourself and give yourself a treat from time to time.
ReplyDeleteOne of my aunt is obsessed with buying properties, she is forever saving to buy more land, i wish she could splurge on herself more, her younger sister cried one day and begged her to spend the money herself, she is divorced and have no kids, she lost the home she lived in to her ex husband, it was her property, but she put it in her husband's name after they wedded, Bad mistake.
She is such a wonderful person but has really been through a lot, this craze for getting more property is annoying because if any thing happens to her now, her brother's will inherit all those properties, sigh! Wish she would take care of her self more.
Please she needs to treat herself to nice things cos she deserves it .
DeleteI always tell my eldest sister that she spends so much money on others but when it's her turn she'd try to rationalise she should or shouldn't buy a luxury item, recently she saw reasons with me and now treats herself to good things of life.
What's considered extravagance to one person is another's normal .
ReplyDeletePersonally I dont blink when I need to spend my money
My Motto is while I'm making generational wealth , I need to treat myself, life is too short not to live in luxury if you can afford.
I looove this, "life is too short not to live in luxury if you can afford it"👌👌👌
DeleteMy choco😍😍
Delete@Candycane yes o !! As long as you're not pressuring yourself or trying to impress anyone.
Delete@Gifty boo 😘😘😘😘😘😘
It us good to look good if u can afford it but don't go and do something stupid because u want to buy that latest shoes, clothes or phone.

ReplyDeleteStill looking up unto God....so yeah,I really can't relate for now.It is well🤗.
ReplyDeleteSpend the money well on things you know you deserve after all is your hard earned money 💰
ReplyDeleteMy weakness is hair and lingerie.
ReplyDeleteWont even lie, the major reason I save so much is for my family. I love them that much. But when it comes to spending on hair, I don’t hold back.
Lingerie is life
DeleteHmm for hair i had a bad experience that made me stop buying hair .
But im back .
I love good shoes, clothes and Underwear.
ReplyDeleteMy weakness is house decor, always wanting to change furniture, curtains etc.
ReplyDeleteI am currently addicted to crushed diamond home ware.
I work mega hard by the way
I don’t blink to buy for my kids ooo..
ReplyDeleteI used to spend a lot of money on gold jewellry. I don't regret it as they have appreciated in value. I also saved and acquired properties. Now, most of my money is spent on my children's education. I want to give them the best. Thank God they are all doing well and my first child graduated with a First Class. All glory to God Almighty. I believe in spoiling myself once in a while - quality bags are my latest weakness. Life is for living.
ReplyDeleteI really can't relate wit this post.
ReplyDeleteSomeone gave me 200 dollars in 2018, will you guys believe I saved it till last month? I actually wanted to add to it so I can start a business. But when I was almost dying last month, I changed a hundred dollar and got rice and some little food stuff with it. It couldn't even get all I wrote on the list. I was thinking 100 dolls is one big money, so I wrote so many items on d list.. Lol
God please I need a Job mehnnnnnn!
My blood is boiling. This movement should be more than end Sars. God pls help us end this bad government.
i have been micromanaging my bank work until this year when i hauled in almost 60,000 USD from the cryptocurrency bulls. so i went and bought a samsung s20 ultra for myself after years of using tecno. I just felt like splurging and it felt good. But the husband was shocked at the amount i spent and then i asked him to calculate all the ashawo and hotel money he spends yearly and tell me which one is higher. FEM, I didnt hear again.
