The alleged defamatory article was published by Daily Trust on Sunday August 30, 2020.
The former Minister addressed the letter to the Managing Director of Daily Trust
and has given the medium 14 days to comply or face a lawsuit.
The letter, dated August 31, 2020 and was signed by Adeola Adesipe, Fani-Kayode’s lawyer.
The article had lampooned Fani-Kayode over his reaction to the question posed by Charles Eyo a reporter of Daily Trust, during a press conference in Calabar, Cross River State. Fani-Kayode had railed at the question, calling the reporter ‘stupid’ while he ranted.
Eyo, the reporter had sought to know who was bankrolling the former Minister’s ongoing tour of a number of Southern states.
His outburst had drawn widespread condemnation from the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ); civil society organizations and a cross-section of Nigerians. Subsequently, he had tendered an apology to the reporter and the NUJ.
However, the article written by Iliyasu Gadu had criticised Fani-Kayode, calling into question his British education and accusing him of being a drug addict.
Consequently, Fani-Kayode had described the article as defamatory; and demanded an apology from Daily Trust which must be published in other national newspapers. he also demanded that Daily Trust enter into negotiation for possible payment of N6bn due to damages the article had caused him.
Fani-Kayode and his lawyers also wrote a similar letter to Gadu, the writer of the article.
from 1st weekly.
Fani again....
ReplyDeleteHe is very stupid yo have given the story more publicity! It was an open secret about his past drug issues! Didn’t his ex wife accuse him of same problem when she left his crazy ass? Something is wrong with this guy and I thought he should know better to let the sleeping dog alone! Foolish one

DeleteNa so
ReplyDeleteKayode is beginning to piss me off
ReplyDeleteFFK 6billions gang
ReplyDeleteThe man is broke. Unemployment no easy.
DeleteHahahahahaha...I laugh in Swahili
ReplyDeleteTrouble dey sleep yanga go wake am. Why would he write something untrue about FFK. For the fact that he is still on the hot seat with Nigerians lashing out on him is enough reason to steer clear of him. The writer should face his trouble.
ReplyDeleteThe newspaper reporter should also sue FFK for damages and harassment. There is a recording of FFK calling him stupid variously, he called him a small minded man, he accused the reporter of collecting brown envelopes without any evidence to support the allegation.
DeleteIf FFK can sue, then he can also be sued
This guy blew himself in open glare. If you are asked a simple question about who is bankrolling you, can't you just reply the person it is out of passion you are doing the tour from your pocket? It's not all battles that are won with sword some it's just with wisdom.
ReplyDeleteMy dear, I tire o. See how the issue has escalated when wisdom and tact could have resolved It.
DeleteSee what FFK did last 2 weeks was very wrong but guys I urge you to go read the column it was too direct, brutal and liable to him why tagged ''Drug Addict''...The Journalism profession in Nigeria is really in ruins..What happened to using satire, idioms, allegories in writing articles and you can still get your message across for God sakes..Anyway FFK has been ill advised and he should change those who advice him..He should win the battle not the war...
ReplyDeleteThe Journalist wrote with his emotions and forgot about sense and intelligence. He wanted to draw blood and he did. But to what end? Now the paper is being dragged.
DeleteAnd no I'm not for ffk. I'm for common sense. And yes Ffk goofed big time when he blew his top.
Simple question was asked "Who is bankrolling who" he would have said "I don't know" period. He went ahead and lambast the poor innocent boy, now he is claiming 6billion because he has the monopoly of everything. Nonsence.
ReplyDeleteI guess Charles Eyo would sue for 12 billion, afterall, his list is longer than that of FFK.
