‘I’m a product of godfatherism’ were the words of Desmond Elliot, a lawmaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, as he heaped praise on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Elliot, who was elected as a lawmaker under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, stated this while speaking on the “Edo no be Lagos” campaign by Governor Obaseki.
Obaseki’s effective campaign strategy to mobilize Edo state residents to vote for him touches on ending godfatherism, the practice he believed continued in Lagos State for 13 years after Bola Tinubu left the governorship office.
However, while speaking in a recent interview, Desmond Elliot admitted he is a product of godfatherism.
Desmond, representing Surulere Constituency, added that “Asiwaju Tinubu as never for one day asks me to do something that he knows will be detrimental. He is a progressive man.”
Speaking on Obaseki’s aim to end godfatherism in Edo, Desmond Elliot said;
“Let me tell you, loyalty is important. A godfather always looks for the interest of the people.
“What does he mean by Edo can’t be Lagos. Lagos state makes an IGR of over 30 billion every month. You cannot hear about unpaid salaries or pension, so why would you say Edo cant be Lagos because you are trying to sell an idea.”

Good thing you understand it's wrong to bite the fingers that fed you,but at the expense of who?We the poor masses of course.....
ReplyDeleteThey so dragged him by the balls yesterday on Twitter. Nor be small thing.
DeleteWhat a mess. This Tinubu needs to stop The nonsense god playing he does.. Isn’t godfatherism Illegal.
ReplyDeleteHaaa! Na wah o. Desmond is lobbying a bigger position now o
How is godfatherism illegal. Even in America there is godfatherism. Barack Obama has already brought out the list of people he would be supporting in the November election. He is helping them raise funds and campaigning for them. He played a key role in the choice of kamala Harris. In business there are godfathers, in the military and civil service there are godfathers, not just in Nigeria. Some of you come here crying everyday that you don't have capital to start a business or expand your business, imagine if you were fortunate to meet a wealthy person who gives you the needed resources and makes things easy for you by introducing you to people who can lift you out of poverty. Wouldn't that person be your godfather, wouldn't you be glad to talk about him/ her. Godfatherism is not a bad thing.

ReplyDeleteAbegi
ReplyDeleteYeye guy,see his chopped fingers,Bola tinubu thinks he is immortal
ReplyDeleteEdo state IGR was 300 million per month in 2008. Gov Adams Oshiomhole made it 1,6 billion per month before leaving in November 2016. In 4 years Obaseki only added 200 million per month to the IGR
ReplyDeleteObaseki claims he is fighting godfatherism in Edo state but he paid the leadership of pdp 6 billion Naira to be allowed to contest under pdp. According to Thisday newspaper the leadership of pdp demanded for 10 billion Naira. After days of negotiating they accepted 6 billion naira from him. Then he had to settle the 3 pdp aspirants, Ogbeide Ihama, Ken Imasuagbon and Gideon because he was afraid of contesting against them. Gov Ayo Fayose even came out to say Obaseki paid pdp leaders.
A guy crying and wailing about godfatherism imposed himself on another party with the billions that could have been used to fix our schools, hospitals etc.

Oga tell us how much ize iyamu paid for his own ticket in apc,the deal he had with oshomole,
DeleteIf ize iyamu was that relevant why did he not remain in PDP and contest the election,
Obaseki is the masses choice period.
In your stout defence of one man, you have confirmed what majority of the people are saying: godfatherism drains the people for one person's or few people's selfish benefit.
