JULIANAS OPINION - FIRST AID


Can we start a discussion about the basic things that needs to be done in an emergency situation?. Why is first aid and how to properly administer it not thought in our primary and secondary school?, can something be done concerning this?.

First aid is an emergency care given before regular medical aid can be obtained, If well administered can save a lot of life in our society. First aid treatments such as CPR or mouth to mouth resuscitation, how to relief a choking person, rolling on the floor to put out fire on a person, putting pressure on a cut or open injury to prevent blood loss, unbuttoning the shirt and trouser of a convulsing person, not dragging accident victims around to avoid breaking a bone or causing more damage etc. 

Should be a common knowledge among us but it is a pity that the reverse is the case. If efforts are made to sensitize our populace on first aid treatment, careless deaths will be avoided.

What about teaching our children on how to call for help and who to call if they notice that someone is in trouble. What breaks my heart is how most people behave in the face of an emergency, instead of helping the victims, they will rather record the ugly event and share on the social media. Why exactly do people do this, their should be a law against recording victims of circumstances rather than helping them. 

We should learn to be empathetic to people especially during an emergency, because it could be you tomorrow needing help from people to survive. My advise to everyone is rather than turn an emergency situation to a circus show, walk away in other for the victims to have enough room for fresh air. If you are reading this do a research on how to administer first aid in various emergency situations.

Now to our hospitals, please stop rejecting people when they are brought to your hospital due to not making a down payment, treat an emergency as it should be. You are supposed to know better and are trained to know better, avoid nonchalant attitude towards victims.

 Why not stabilize the individual/individuals first before asking for money, it is your profession to save life.
