Mrs Dee's Corner -Reacting To Medications

Some people react to certain drugs and some do not.
Some may experience swellings and itch all over, while others may have to deal with nausea and rashes all over .....

The first time I noticed I had drug allergies was when I visited the medical center in school and part of the drugs administered were antibiotics (the type that makes one's urine smell).

I went home and each time I took them, I would throw up everything I had eaten. It was so bad because other drugs taken alongside the antibiotics were vomited and I was not getting better.

I returned to the medical center and the doctor on duty advised me to take that particular medication 15 minutes before eating.

Another time, I was so sick with malaria and the anti-malarial drugs prescribed had no effect, so the medical personnel opted for chloroquine.

To say I was in severe discomfort is putting it lightly. Every part of me was itching terribly, down to my palms and I resorted to scratching my palms on the wall and it took days before the effect wore off.

Some people have it clearly stated in their medical files that certain drugs should not be given to them. I've read a story where a patient went into shock after a doctor who did not check the patient's file administered a drug that should not have been and it took days and urgent medical intervention before the patient was revived.

Some people react to contraceptives and put on a lot of weight and have this bloated look, while others show no signs of a reaction....

It is very important for ne to know the types of medications that are harmful to their health......No be every medicine dey heal person, dem dey cause more wahala.

    2. Part of the reason I don't wanna go on any contraceptive. I hate being fat, it makes me very lazy like I can't even carry myself

    3. I have to go anonymous on this one. I don't know what else we can do. My wife reacts badly to contraceptives by gaining weight and increasing her blood pressure. Looking for an alternative at the moment. I can't even gbensh with ease because we don't want any more children 🤦🏿‍♂️

    4. Oga go to the doctor, there are different contraceptives available. Some don’t make women add weight. Every medication has it’s side effects. Ask the Obgy for more information

    5. Anon 14:23, I think your best option is you getting a vasectomy as the man of the house. That would make things far easier for your wife and reduce the chances of a new babe drastically. Peace ✌️

    6. Oga use condom or your wife should do test to know the type that suit her system.

I reacted to a day kit, I nearly died o, it was God that saved me that night. Impatient caused it.

    7. Oga 14:23. In government health centres and hospitals, they give MALE and female family planning devices free. The one for males is an injection taken every 3 months. No side effects. Not permanent. So once u r ready, u stop the injections.

I was placed on Arv some years ago ,was scared cos most people were complaining that they react badly and had to stop,10 years I haven't had any reaction,I thank God, I recently did organ function test cos I was told the drug can damage organs, and the test came out perfectly fine💃🏻💃🏻, viral load undetected.I bless God, I even tested negative recently but fear no let me stop the drugs

    4. Please do not stop your medication. That the virus is u detectable does not mean it isn't there. Continue to stay safe and take all precautions so as to avoid transmitting or being reinfected. 🤗

    5. Please keep taking your drugs, that's why you are healthy. If you stop, your viral load will start climbing. That mistake has changed/killed many.

  4. Oral contraceptives has fluid retention/weight gain as one of its side effects. It can also give nausea and vomiting initially. There are others that are worse; e.g.
    hypertension
    blood coagulation leading to "stroke"
    Diabetes
cancers, especially breasts/uterus (this is controversial and well contended)
    etc.
Because of that weight gain, it can give everything obesity can give and more.
You can use google and study more.

  6. How about people that need some of these drugs to survive. I suffer from serious migraine headaches for years now and was placed on Amitriptyline. This medication was working perfectly for years. But all of a sudden i started putting on weight due to side effect of the medication. I went from size 10 to 14. It is a known side effect. I try to eat healthy, i excercise abit and i have just stayed on the 14. But being slim before it can be depressing.
I met a guy of late who will tell me im pretty in the face(im aware of that) but insults me with my weight. That how will i be when i put to bed when im already this big. I have cut him off.
I dont like discussing my health issues with people but the fat shaming even at a size 14 is annoying even from family.
I have tried all other drugs. They are either not effective or make me itch. Seen various neuros, even outside the country. My next step is to take a 1nce monthly injection which isnt even available in Nigeria but its about N200k.
Doctors in the house. Any advice ?

  11. I'm allergic to certain medications and it's clearly stated in my hospital record , matter of fact I've a written document from my Dr just incase I'm somewhere else and I need urgent medical attention.

There was a pain relief medication i took one time and I had a big green patch on my hand .

I'm allergic to sulphur as well and alot, I don't ingest antibiotics only in rare situations.

I'm also allergic to quinine ive had a tingling sound in my ears from quinine , I'm hyper allergic I cannot even list it all.

My dad is too, he was once administered aspirin without the Dr's knowledge of his allergies and he had severe burns in less than an hour , it was quite frightful.

People that haven't ever been to the hospital don't know how blessed they are .

I used to be ashamed of opening my body when 'people' are around me but now na me open body pass.. I just discovered I'm reacting to a particular food and it breaks my heart cause I can't stop eating the food.
I avoid a whole lot of foods cause of allergies, people always ask how I survive without eating major foods but I thank God for life.

I remember when I undergoes HSG test, despite the pain I was still calm to the extend the doctors were commending me for my tolerance, they were happy I didnt give them tough time during the process like some people do.

  26. This is me for the past few days. I received tetanus shot for the 2nd time and I’m currently down. I was told it’s normal for pregnant mothers. The first time I took it, I had fever and loss of appetite. Now,I’m down with severe flu, Headache, joint pains, fever and cold. It’s so inconveniencing. Can’t sleep well at night, like I’m going out of breath because of blocked nose. Hopefully the bag of medication I have been given will help relieve me from today.
