    2. The truth is family should be careful of their utterances to their kids...especially those having issues in school.
I have a male friend who had many extra yrs as he was even given a course he didnt like. Parents forced him into sciences from sec school. Everybody including his family looked down on him, parents always calling him useless/worthless dat he wont amount to anything. Finally graduated with 3rd class after 6yrs or so.
He left naija, living in Sweden,he's in finance....doing extremely well. Married with kids...we shouldnt be so fast to write off ppl.
      RIP to d dead...

    3. My mother use to make me feel so useless. my problem wasnt even education i did okay in school. But she will call me lazy, useless and all manner of names. tell me she doesnt even know how i will turn out in life, that she is sure i will not be useful to her. i dont know maybe all this was cos she was a single mother. At a point i started believing these things.
But to have my sanity i moved out started living alone. got a good job and found out im not so useless afterall. Im married now and working along with balancing motherhood and figuring out im not as useless as my mother said. I am now the one even taking care of her.

    4. They should have withdrawn him and sent him to a private university, he would have finished with a first class. Public university is for the strong hearted.

  3. Nigerians are too judgemental esp when you have poor academic performance. They make you look like the dumbest person and good for nothing cuz of low performance. If he was living abroad I don't he will commit suicide over poor academic performance.

    1. Sucide rate in the abroad is 90% higher than what is recorded in Nigeria. they commit suicide for the flimsiest excuse like boredom, no body likes me, what will it look like to be dead etc

    2. Yeah he can not commit suicide because of poor academic performance. Ths is Because his personal tutor will have helped him out by sign posting him to the right resources. He will also be referred to mental and wellbeing team in the university.

    1. Hey.. Lil aunty calm down. You don't know them, neither do you have an idea of the kinda life they lived while they were alive. Some thoughts are best left to die down right in the mind were they were made. You mustn't say/type everything you think. Have a nice day dear.

    2. Chisom, if you were the mother of this young man and you read this statement you just made here about exchanging his life for that young lady’s, how do you think you’d feel?

    3. Why are you so judgmental about people’s lives, you do not know the true circumstances surrounding his death or if truly it was because of poor academic performance, just because you read it on a blog. Please learn to have empathy and stop acting like you’re all perfect and all knowing, thanks.

    4. Thank God that you don't have such powers to do that..
I have never understood people that drops distateful mean spirited comments when someone commits suicide.
Just one kidney/ liver sickness in this part of the world can humble the most happiest person, let's all pray never to be in that position when we feel like giving up on life..
You are not God& only God can judge him..

  6. This Nigeria isn’t easy for a honest individual. After graduating as the best graduating student of my department, done with NYSC. Only to get a job in one of our banks that pay you 17,500 naira monthly because you didn’t meet target. Nigeria is for the strong at heart...

  7. Mental health must be taken seriously in this country. Kudos to the NGOs who have been doing massive work there past few years. May God comfort the family of this young man and may he rest I. Peace.

    1. In many places there are no resources in place to assist those going through mental issues. Plus so many ppl believe in witchcraft and such. They will quicker believe that someone did something to them than to believe that their loved one is ill and need medical attention.

No need judging or asking why suicide.
Some people aren’t strong enough for this world is something I have realized and it’s not their fault most times.

  11. Rip Aboh ..... This was the guy I was talking about. Please help did not commit suicide in the presence of his mother. People should stop twisting the story. Aboh was a a very lively guy, jovial and we'll liked by everyone around him but he couldn't get the love from his family where they thought he was a useless and good for nothing person. Let me just stop here cos he's well known to me. May God have mercy and his soul and grant him eternal rest.

  12. The earlier we all realise tha education is not the key to success in this life the better. You want to be successful? Just learn basic english nd maths and be street smart.

The society contributed to his depression. May the rest of this year bring healing to the troubled.

  14. Why do this to your family? School is not for everyone. That you didn't even go at all doesn't make you a failure. Rip Aboh.

    1. Thanks Cynthia. Unfortunately, we’ve been brought up to believe that you have to go to school to be a success in life. If not, why would someone struggle to pass basic school leaving exam five times before giving up? Precious time that should have been used to learn a trade o.

    2. Well said Ayettymama.

Going to school doesn't guarantee success but it gives you a solid foundation you can built on.

Some things I learnt in school has helped me in my life journey and broaden my horizon.

  19. Suicide is never an option
I went through a lot growing up as a child, and yes! I had suicidal thoughts and even prayed for God to take my life but God came through for me
Mathers these days thinks it's all about providing food, clothings (all basic needs) but it's much more than that. Our children need emotional support too, if they can't tell a family member they'll take it outside and may even get a wrong advice
I'm not judging him one bit
May his soul rest in peace
