1st News reports that Hushpuppi, whose real name is Ramon Abbas, was nabbed in Dubai last week. The alleged fraudster was arrested in a high-wire sting operation codenamed Fox Hunt 2. Hushpuppi stands accused of overseeing an alleged $431 million cyber scam. He has since been extradited to the US where he will face trial.
However, the Nigerian Instagram celebrity is not prepared to go down without fighting.
In court documents sighted by 1st News, Hushpuppi had retained the services of Pissetzky; a senior partner in Chicago law firm Pissetzky and Berliner to help him beat the fraud rap.
Pissetzky was called to the bar in 2002 and has practiced in Chicago since 2002. Further, his firm is reputed as one of the best in the Chicago area. Also, he has been retained by a number of high-profile clients including the late pop star, Michael Jackson.
Hushpuppi was accused of targeting victims overseas by creating fake websites for well-known companies and banks; in a bid to steal victims’ credit card information and then launder the stolen money; the Dubai police spokesperson Mr Jamal al-Jalaf said.
Investigators said Hushpuppi, 37, who passed himself off as a wealthy real estate developer; flaunted his collections of luxury cars, shoes, watches, and other goods to help “lure victims from all over the world”.
The FBI and Interpol raided his Dubai apartment as he slept; seizing more than £30 million or $37 million in cash.
The trial began on Friday, July 3, 2020, in a United States court and if convicted; the alleged internet fraudster could face a sentence of up to 20 years in jail.
US authorities say Hushpuppi will be transferred to Los Angeles in the coming weeks. However, he has decided to hire Pissetzky to guide him through the process of transfer to Los Angeles. Pissetzky made his first appearance for Hushpuppi at the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on July 6.

So how will he pay his defense attorney when everything he had has been seized?
ReplyDeleteExactly the question I had in mind
DeleteAbi ooo.. Was wondering too.The FBI thinks they ve confiscated all his properties and they ve not. The person that got the lawyer for him should be arrested. He has most of the document of his properties and bank accounts of hush with him.
DeleteThis fraudster is not serious
DeleteHe probably has money stashed away somewhere
DeleteIf he is truly guilty, may he not win this case. The sweat and great efforts of the innocent people he scammed, making hardworking people look lazy won't go in vain. Iranu! π
ReplyDeleteAbacha! *smiles*
DeleteKikiki Sabi boy!! But.... welcome to America
ReplyDeleteHe'll probably get a lighter sentence, say like 5 years.. he'll come out and still be rich.
Deletelawyers dey try sha..lol..crime never pays. there is no how he wont get up to like 10 years with the magnitude of fraud he did. by the time you are out tops 50 something years you can still enjoy some small freedom before......
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm...
ReplyDeleteAll to reduce his sentence.
Na look i dey look
ReplyDeleteNo be small thing.
ReplyDeleteI guess it was the court that gave him the judge for fair hearing and doesn't still mean he won't rot in jail,Amen.
ReplyDeleteThe quest to be on Forbes list landed him on FBI list.He his always with Forbes magazine.
ReplyDeletelawyer go also chop
Whether he hires Angel Michael, he will still do the time. You don't mess with American taxpayers money. Lai lai, you must do the time. It's even worse they cannot recover most of the money bc it was transacted through & into criptocurrency.
ReplyDeleteNote,
Note, the lawyer will pick up the case, after all he is making money. Whether Ramoni goes to prison or is acquitted, is irrelevant. He has given them his bill, he is going to get paid, period! Note also that He (lawyer) did not appear in court that day w/o a juicy deposit. It's you give me the money and I'll show up. No money, no show. There hardly is any free service in Yankee especially with a private attorney. It is a capitalist society. Someone is out there that arranged for this lawyer to defend him.
Moreover he has cases in different states and jurisdictions depending on the location or legal residence of the companies he defrauded. So if you join 20 yrs in Chicago, a 15 in LA, a 20 in new New York , a 10 -15 in Texas, etc. 'HushRat' might be looking at 80 to 90yrs.
However, let's see how the movie will play out.
Agreed! π―!
DeleteLol. Best lawyer in Chicago. Hahahahaha! He should have gone to wake up Johnny Cochran from the dead.
ReplyDeleteHushpuppi’s only salvation is to follow invictus and cut a deal. Sing like Alariwo and get reduced sentence. Hahahahaha
Really πππ
ReplyDeleteThis life no just balance, for what exactly! He should go do his time osisoπ
Hush got an expensive lawyer with which money or with whose help. Las las his jail sentence might not up to 20years. The law firm wants to collect their own from the loot
ReplyDeleteHushpuppi isn’t smart. Why hire an attorney that charges $1,500 per hour when you can cut a deal with the Feds and get reduced sentence. This is not EFCC.
ReplyDeleteFBI had undercover agents working with him and woodberry. So it’s difficult to claim he didn’t do it. It’s an airtight case unlike EFCC that will charge someone for having a document titled WHATSAPP
Well analysed...Disguised FBI must have worked with him to garner concrete evidences they used to nab him..
DeleteDon't mind him!!!!
DeleteThe lawyer's own is to get paidπ€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£
You hire a lawyer like this for his knowledge of LOOPHOLES!! You can't cut such a complex deal by yourself. If you try to you will get shafted or killed big time.
DeleteOk let's see how it goes, mean while you all should welcome your new family
ReplyDeleteWelcome π₯°
DeleteWelcome queen Elizabeth
Deleteππππππππππππ welcome home π΅πΌπΆπ₯π΅π₯π₯π£π£π₯π₯π₯
DeleteLawyers will finish his I'll gotten wealth just as they finished that of kidnapper Evans. Oniyeye.
ReplyDeleteππππΆ
ReplyDeleteSmart move to hire a good lawyer. He will surely get him a good plea deal (much much lesser sentence) but he ll be broke after that.
ReplyDeleteMaybe to lessen the sentence...
ReplyDeleteThere’s nothing this great lawyer, can do for him.
ReplyDeleteMicheal Cohen, was a lawyer too but still went to prison.
The former Chicago Governors, all had great lawyers but still did time.
I have seen people spend so much and still do time.
Nothing, will save husspuppy.
Whoever, hired this attorney for him, is, a fool.
They will be on his tail soon.
I hope he knows outgoing calls in prison are recorded.
Hushpuppy can decide to hire anyone he chooses to represent him in court but he would definitely end up in jail...
