Ex Convict Jailed 10 Years For Stealing Foodstuff

10 Years for stealing food?Only In Nigeria will the real thieves be walking free and food thieves will do time for the crime.....WTF!!!

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo has sentenced a 27-year -old man, Ayinde Semiu, to 10 years imprisonment for breaking into two shops and stealing foodstuff worth N77,850.
.
The Magistrate, Mrs I.O Abudu, on Wednesday, sentenced the convict after he had earlier pleaded guilty to six counts of burglary and stealing.
.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Abolade Bukola, had earlier told the court that the defendant committed the offences at 2.30 am at Elegant area of Abeokuta.
.
Bukola told the court that the defendant who was a two-time convict of stealing also burgled two shops and stole foodstuff and cash belonging to Mrs Koleosho Mariam and Mrs Aremu Omolara.
.
The prosecutor said the defendant was caught in the act by a resident of the community who sighted him while stealing the items.
.
The prosecutor said the offences committed contravened Sections 414 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    1. Ten years is definitely too much. Even if the guy is remanded it should be for some months or not at all. They need to know why he has chosen to go that route. As far as he is not violent and he just goes for foodstuffs, then that is very wicked of the judge and the system, especially in a country where those that have stolen billions are still celebrated. This to me is pure injustice. If he is a violent criminal, then that is a different thing entirely. May God help the poor to get justice in our nation, in Jesus' Mighty Name. Amen

  3. This one is just going to waste 10 years of his life behind bars all because of laziness. You do not want to work,no matter how little.
I had initially wanted to question why politicians steal billions and get off on plea bargain yet this one is getting 10years only for me tho see that he isn't even a first time offender.

My only grouse is that, trials like these get speedy sentencing yet our billion stealers keep getting adjournments upon adjournments

  5. What's really wrong with my country's system of justice. So biased, backward, bought-over and insensitive. They should be the "lookupto" of the downtrodden. But they are the most untrustworthy ..... all dem dat are charged with custody the laws in beloved Naija.

  10. I am guessing the lengthy sentence was because he's a two time convict. The sentence is to serve as a deterrent but with the way our correctional services are, he will come out a hardened criminal.

Stealing is stealing, no matter what is stolen or who steals it. I am guessing the sentence imposed is the maximum in Ogun State.

  19. This must be because he is a repeat offender. The sentence is not really excessive for a two-time convict. It is just unfortunate that courts do not dispense justice when the offender is rich and influential.

  21. Forget the headline. He’s a repeat offender who also stole money. Let’s put sentiments aside, he’s a thief!!!

    1. We all agree that he’s a thief . We also heard he’s a repeat offender. Truth remains that the ten years is too much. None of our politicians has spent that time for stealing millions. Even ibori, didn’t get ten years in London.
