A 22 year old 100 level student of Microbiology at the University of Benin, Edo State, Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, has been brutally raped and killed inside a church where she went to read at night.
She was later rushed to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Omozuwa but couldn't make it as she succumbed to the injuries sustained during the brutal attack.
Another source revealed that, “The church’s security officer had gone to collect the keys to the church from its keeper when he was told that there was someone in the church already.
He got to the church only to find Uwaila in a pool of blood and next to her was the fire extinguisher which was used to bash her face.
He ran back to inform the key keeper and his wife, who went to the church to meet her lifeless, thinking she was dead. After careful observation, they noticed she moved her hand and quickly rushed her to the hospital.
It was at the hospital that Uwaila revealed she was reading all alone when some unknown men came into the church , beat, raped and hit her head with a fire extinguisher. However, she later passed on. .
The case was reported to Oregbeni Police Station, but nothing has been done about it so far.
Her friends and family have taken to social media to demand justice for her death.

DeleteThere must have been eyewitnesses. Of course, people would have seen people enter or leave the church premises or act suspiciously around the crime scene at about that time of the incident. I say this because I know that Nigerians still have the spirit of community. It is part of our culture.The only problem here is that people would be afraid of coming out to say what their eyes saw or what their ears heard because of the way the Nigerian Police might twist the story against them, get their identities exposed and also arrest them and possibly charge them with murder. Sad how an informant or helper ends up being a victim. I will not go into DNA testing here because it's a useless suggestion …, in Nigeria. Sad how a studious and religious girl lost her life in the most cruel of manners and at a place one would have considered safe - Church premises with a security guard! Well, I would definitely suggest that the investigators not look too far away from the location of the crime scene in search of the perpetrators of this murder as they are likely to be those guys who have seen her on several occasions enter and leave that building all alone. In all, I hope justice is served and the evil men face the consequences of their actions. May they rot in jail! People are having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof, that is why you see many churches but yet wickedness multiplies everyday, which kind of Life is this?. The pastors too have based their preaching on money and success to the extent that they can't be differentiated with motivational speakers. Nobody teaches the consequences of sin; nobody teaches love, hope, righteousness and self control. Judgement is really supposed to start from the church. Sad buy Nigerian ladies do not take personal security seriously. I was in a Polytechnic and saw ladies passing through isolated area by themselves at night. I even stopped one girl and asked her why? She thought it was normal. Use common sense. Even as a guy, I try not to go to isolated areas by myself in Nigeria. You can be robbed.
