Nigerian Govt Admits Signing Up For COVID 19 Vaccine Trials

The Nigerian Government has admitted indicating interest to be part of the global solidarity trial of vaccines being tried to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

This was disclosed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday.

The Minister of Health said, “We have indicated interest to the WHO to be part of the global solidarity trial of medicines being tried to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, and efforts on to also conduct research here in Nigeria. Other drugs can be added to the trials based on emerging evidence.

“In all this, we shall ensure the maintenance of ethical standards and safety of our people.”

WHO had earlier revealed that medical plants like Artemisia Annua are being considered in the treatment of COVID-19.

  1. I strongly support the trial. It's better to have 50% chance of survival than none

    1. It is not a vaccine trial. It is a drugs trial with already existing and approved drugs like chloroquine.

    1. I also read somewhere that a volunteer died in the UK after being administered with the vaccine

    2. I don't think so Richie else it would have been in the news as nothing about this disease is hidden. The first volunteer is 62 years old lady. You have to be sick before it can be tested on you though.

  6. Ok that's good ,but I hope your family members will be part of the trials not just the masses.

  8. Madagascar cure for the treatment has been neglected..

To try and help each other, and also to promote indigenous medicine; should also be parts of priorities of the government

    1. Read what the Medical Association of Madagascar had to say about that. Medicine does not work that way.

  11. Our people said they have solutions, you did not bother to try theirs but you have signed for trial of the one WHO is proposing. Tomorrow you will come and start preaching buy Niaja to grow Niaja when you cannot practice what you preach.

  12. This does not seem to be vaccine trials..vaccines are tried on the healthy in clinical trials. It seems to be a drug trial..to be tried on covid positive patients. They will use existing drugs off label ie using a drug for a purpose it was not indicated for. It is not a bad option for those whose prognosis is already bad. It's like choose between 99% chance of death vs 60% chance of life with this drug combination? And so on.. And they will still need the patient's consent before administering the drug.

  13. Ok, that is a good, we are all battling the same enemy
    no harm in trying.

  14. They have collected loans, they can't escape the trials. Problem is they ll give incentive to the infected less privileged to die in their stead
