NCDC Might Start Managing COVID-19 Patients In Their Homes

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says it is considering the management of COVID-19 patients in their homes.

Director-general of the NCDC, Chikwe Ihekweazu, said this at the presidential task force on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday, The Cable reports.

According to Ihekweazu, there are challenges with getting enough bed spaces at isolation centres, and as such, patients may have to self-isolate in their homes under strict guidelines.

“Ultimately, we might have to change our strategy a little bit, start considering home care in certain circumstances, where first we are able to provide a room where a patient can be managed sufficiently, and secondly we’re able to support the care by enabling healthcare workers come to that,” he said.

“But we will always be honest with Nigerians. We are struggling at the moment. We might have to adapt our strategy because of the realities we face over the next few days and weeks and as we do that, we’ll make that clear to Nigerians.

  1. So they will move ventilators and nurses and doctors to their homes and
what happens to their kids; they quarter them in hotels and provide their meals?
These are the hallmarks of a failed system; a government that refused to build infrastructure for their rapidly expanding population. Shame!

    1. Common it’s just common sense, when I said the poor should stay at home to avoid the spread them no gree , they cry hungry. This is a country that don’t care for its citizens even when things are well , how much this trying times? Nigeria has about 200million people to how many ventilators? Even Spain ,Italy that has fewer citizens and good health facilities, people are kept at corridors of hospitals. When e set government go abandon una face them self a family. Just like how kyari and el rufai were not attended to at isolation centers but vip rooms.

    2. A very big shame.
What happened to all the monies donated ,
The scream of preparedness at the inception,
What happened to Nigeria is prepared and fully equipped to tackle this virus.
It can never be well with anyone that is dragging Nigeria backward.

    3. Let's see if people who tested positive will run or absconded from their homes now since they escape from isolation centres anyhow anyhow

    4. I do not think they mean people who are showing severe symptoms that require hospitalization. This may be for people who have mild symptoms or people who test positive but have no symptoms at all.

    5. not everyone that test positive in Uk and other developed country taken to any center you can be positive and still able to function just stay in one room alone dont mix or use same plate with your family or anybody ..use dettol or izal sef to bath and the family should make sure they mop and clean daly every single area where hands touch like door handle ,bucket, taps etc with hypo or jik bleach and wash your cloth with hypo ....if you are sharing bathroom let the healthy ones bath first then after you bath use bleach and omo and wash every part also pray a lot and follow what NCDC tell you to do ..its difficult but you have to do it .i pray some abandon hotel wlll allow govt to use their facilities .... .God will see us through

    6. To think this same people were shouting 'we are ready for Corona virus' some months ago. Just 1000+ cases and they're overwhelmed. Shame.

    7. 16:38 but they've donated enough money why is it hard for them to share it?

  3. They have been doing it at least in the Uk. For mild cases o. U self isolate in ur room. And they video conference and tell u what to do. Ur food is left outside the room with disposable plates and all

    1. Yeah you are right. I guess if the patient has mild symptoms they could self isolate in a well ventilated room in the house. If it isn't too much stress, the health worker can pop in to do an assessment of the patient once in 3 days or so.

If you are self isolating in your home, ensure doors are locked with key to prevent other household members from accessing the room.

We will defeat covid-19 by God's grace, amen.

    2. This is naija,Hunger go finish the person.

    3. That's the UK and also for mild cases.
Knowing how incompetent most of these Nigerian NCDC workers are; one wouldn't trust them to carry out their duties effectively if they follow the same procedures as the UK.

    4. The truth is that covid has no cure so it’s do able. But the self isolation has to be followed to the letter. But Naija for where, we will call the pastor to pray away evil spirits and all. Na God go help us. Amen

  8. Guys I am back, this is Where will you run to? I'm sure some of you are at alert now with what is coming. If you're still confused and in denial please don't ignore this message. There's no time, it's here already.
Who would have believed that on this day, we would all be locked indoors and told to cover our faces with mask. I am really afraid for atheist and leftists, read Isaiah 26:20 if you care about your life at least. Many have called us "brainwashed" church folks. Yes, the church is purging itself too just like the Bible says, but what about you, what are you standing on? Who is your foundation?

Everyone mocked and scoffed at Noah until it started coming down. Even "if" this weren't the end times, we should still fear if we don't know Christ. The reason being that you can die today, and that would be the end of such unprepared soul. The devil is deceiving many to believe we got time when there's none, since no one knows when the Lord will come.

Where will you run to? Look, it's round the corner, sit up now. This is the final warning! For the righteous- Nehemiah 9:12 (You led the people during the day with a cloud, and with a pillar of fire during the night to light the way they were to go)

Ezekiel 7:8-12NLT(Soon I will pour out my fury on you and unleash my anger against you.I will call you to account for all your detestable sins.
9 I will turn my eyes away and show no pity. I will repay you for all your detestable sins. Then you will know that it is I, the Lord, who is striking the blow.
10 “The day of judgment is here; your destruction awaits! The people’s wickedness and pride have blossomed to full flower. 11 Their violence has grown into a rod that will beat them for their wickedness. None of these proud and wicked people will survive. All their wealth and prestige will be swept away.

12 Yes, the time has come; the day is here! Buyers should not rejoice over bargains, nor sellers grieve over losses, for all of them will fall
    under my terrible anger.
13 Even if the merchants survive, they will never return to their business For what God has said applies to everyone— it will not be changed! Not one person whose life is twisted by sin will ever recover. Isaiah 5:9(But I have heard the Lord of Heaven’s Armies swear a solemn oath:“Many houses will stand deserted; even beautiful mansions will be empty). But He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. It's time to make Jesus Christ 'Your Truth'. Don't just talk the talk, you need to have a personal relationship with God.

    4. Considering that is his suggestion is what is currently being used in better developed countries to flatten the curve, how is be not qualified? He is not responsible for building hospitals ma and we all should be deeply grateful that those in charge of building hospitals are not in charge of COVID-19 or ncdc response directly. This is why we were told to sit at home instead of jogging, visiting or disobeying like the idiots that litter Nigeria. At least, with this incident, those painting one past or present leader or the other as a better option would need to show what hospitals he equipped, doctors he employed and paid regularly, labs he furnished or medical systems he infused with the needed enabling environment.

The people in charge of public healthcare transferred capacity to purchase needed supplies to the ministry of agriculture and the man behind that inefficiency is now dead after ignoring quarantine orders and gallivanting into meetings after his return. The so-called ministers of health knew they were lame 🦆 s but kept quiet and towed party lines tills non medical professional, the SGF was made to head the task force and Dr aliyu sani was brought in to butter his own CV at the cost of further muddling the line of command.

The kind of people who were running the public hospital system are like those ruling Kano who started crying when there was infection in an FG testing facility thus shamelessly confessing that the state government did not have a single lab with PCR testing capacity despite its huge budgets and massive population. Be grateful this guy finally was free to set up over 9 labs in about a month now that pressure is on them to do things right. He has been pushing for things like this but got shot down because lassa fever is a disease of the poor and the doctors who still test then woke the borders were still open with ebola. Even in many states, there were no isolation centres despite his weekly meetings and appearances on TV to drive up influence and get government to act.

  11. NCDC this cannot work in Nigeria, we don't have the means to go with this una strategy, it works for other developed countries not a country like Nigeria.

Taking Lagos for example,Let assume there is a contact in a family that stays in a 3bedroom flat with maybe 5 to 7 occupants where is the person supposed to isolate himself.

I don't think we have enough doctor/healthcare workers to adapt this strategy.

    1. You even said 3bedroom! Most of the Lagos population and some families have like 5 to 7 in one room apartment.

  13. What about those that live in one-room apartment??even some flats in Nigeria are like face me I face you..how is isolation possible without infecting others

  14. What happened to all the billions of naira contributed for this cause? What happened to we are fully prepared for COVID 19? May God help the poor masses.

    ReplyDelete
  15. This won't be possible in Nija o except for rich folks.

A poor man in one bedroom 'how is he going to isolate if he happens to get this virus .

Poor families better stay home o cos this shit is getting more real day by day and poor people have no hope in this country.

I quite know it will get to this stage 'the cases 're just 1000+ so what will happen when it gets to 10'000+ but God forbid o.

I think the best thing to do for now is to transfer some to another states with no or few cases'yea than opting to stay at home.

    May God help us' amen!.

    1. So the rich can self isolate in their mansions while the less privileged can be taken to the isolation centre. Naija matter dey hard sometimes. Let them just figure something out.

  17. When we have many hotels in this country own by politicians and theor associate, they can simply donate on of it for this cause to us at the moment. I knew it that a time will come when the health system will be overwhelmed then people will start dying because of our fail system.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't know if this will work here considering how Nigerians don't obey the law.
