Late Abba Kyari's Daughter Aisha Says He Was Terribly Misunderstood And Arguably Mischievously Misrepresented

Aisha, daughter of Abba Kyari, late chief of staff of the President puts up a strong worded defence for her Father and says he was misunderstood...

In a touching tribute published by ThisDay, titled ‘My daddy, my best friend’, Aisha described her late father as an outstanding personality whose wealth of experience cuts across various spheres of life.

She began by saying "Most people knew my dad as the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari. As it is with many public servants, there was much more to him than the signature white kaftan and red cap by which he came to be recognised. He was a most remarkable husband to my mother (HauwaKulu), and father to myself and my three younger siblings (Nurudeen, Ibrahim, and Zainab). Completely irreplaceable".

"Growing up, my dad doted over us. He was extremely protective and his role in raising us with my mother was as complimentary as it was distinct. His main focus was our education, and my mother’s was etiquette and religion! He was stern, and Ammui (as we call her) was playful. It was a perfect balance".

"He was always working. My dad reminded us he worked hard so that he could give us all that we needed to excel at whatever we chose to do. And as far as I remember, my siblings and I lacked nothing; we had all we asked and more. That said, the asking part was hard! It often would come with a lecture and many questions as to why we would even ask for things. In the end, we would get what we wanted as long as a compelling case could be made for it".

"He had a hard exterior but a heart of gold and a quirky sense of humour. He had zero tolerance for mediocrity: A no-nonsense man in every sense of the word. He expected excellence at all times and when it came to time, my father was Swiss-German – for him, arriving on time was arriving late. To this day, my friends always tease me about how and why I get to airport hours before a flight. It is what my daddy instilled in me. Daddy’s biggest obsession was education. He truly invested in us the best education".

She said it was however, amusing that despite his exposure, he could not drive a car until his demise.

“This may sound odd but my beloved daddy couldn’t drive a car! He never learnt how to drive for a day in his entire life,” she wrote.

She went on to explain how her late father was largely “misunderstood” and “mischievously misrepresented” by some Nigerians, despite his contributions to humanity and nation-building.

“My dad was terribly misunderstood and arguably mischievously misrepresented. Even his age was never gotten right from the day he became Chief of staff till the day he died. My dad died at the age of 67. He was often mistaken for the late Brigadier Abba Kyari who was indeed in his 80’s,” she added.

According her, the decision of the late chief of staff not to defend himself against critics was to enable him concentrate on his major assignment of serving his principal and the country.

“For clarity, my dad was more than capable of defending himself. The reason he didn’t is that it would have distracted him from his primary assignment of serving his principal and by extension, his country,” Aisha wrote.

Her father Abba Kyari died from COVID-19 complications on April 17, a few weeks after he had tested positive for the novel disease, following an official trip to Germany and the UK.

    5. Abba kyari was a corrupt, unintelligent, useless man. Collected up to N200 from each minister to make them ministers. Even DGs paid btw N100m and N200m to become DG. After becoming minister or DG you still had to give him millions anytime he requested for money. So tell me, how will the system not be rotten? Ask his stupid children if all the money he stashed at home were his salary? Useless man.

If you needed a federal government job, his boys were ever ready to collect some money from you.
How do they explain the fact that they had all the juicy posts available? Once you hear abbu kyaris own body go sweet you.

Rip to the man but he wasnt a saint.

    1. Lol, why is she trying so hard to make us like him? She should have done all of these when he was alive by advising him accordingly.

If he was good, she wouldn’t need to do so much convincing. His good deeds will speak for him.

      Please let it rest.

  3. I get real irritated each time I see comments like this from this family.Whats she trying to tell Nigerians?that the dad was a Pope?or had the best interest of Nigerians at heart? We all know his antecedents, and what he represented. This sudden public show to solicit sympathy from Nigerians is unwarranted.Nigerians are stressed and currently grappling with the effect of COVID-19 in their lives,so please keep it to yourself. We are not interested!

  6. I had to read the full tributes before sharing my thoughts.
She indeed made a compelling case for Abba Kyari, the family man. But on the stable cleaning task of decorating Abba Kyari, the CoS in saintly robes, that in my opinion wasnt convincing enough.
Majority of Nigerians cannot run to the streets to celebrate the demise of one man, ditto Abacha for no just cause. We have been brainwashed but not to that extent. Nigerians recognise evil when they see one.
This train has long left the station. Nigerians have moved on. I hope Aisha's desperate attempt to defend the memory of her dad would serve as useful lessons to those in power that posterity will hold them accountable for their actions and inactions.

  8. I agree totally with her. Outsiders, not even from their tribe , have so much positive stuff to say about him. Who knows how u & I would have performed, if we’re in his shoes. Yes, we are all human & no body is perfect. His good deeds , based on witnesses ,outweighed his short comings. Also heard that he battled with health challenges, which obviously aged him faster. RIP to him.

    1. Did you see Shagari's children rushing to clear his name when he died? They didn't have to do all this PR, because despite his shortcomings, everyone knew Shagari had a good heart. That's the problem with our politicians: they forget that no position is permanent. When he was cabaling with Isa Funtua and Mamman Daura, he didn't know in just a matter of months, he wouldn't be here anymore. I'm sure Osinbajo and Aisha are secretly relieved. You can amass all the power in the world, but you can never be more powerful than DEATH. I hope Funtua and Daura are taking notes.

  11. Do you see Yar 'Adua's children rushing to defend him? Live a decent life so that your children won't have to clear your name when you're dead.

  12. You cannot control what others think of you or your loved ones. This social media life is making it even harder but you still can’t control people, understand? People will write and say what they want. Likewise you are also writing and saying what you want.

You’re entitled to your write up about your father but stop taking these opinions so hard. He was your father not the father of the Nigerian public.. If truly you he was how you say he was to you, you were blessed to be his child.

I know many children of people whose parents were evil leaders in Nigeria and they all praise their parents as if they were saints. You don’t choose your parents but people still have their opinions.

  15. These people really assume everybody is an idiot here. How can anybody think they can paint a man as cruel and evil as Kyari with white paint and have us believe that shit? These people think we all have aboki brains. Abba Kyari was the main reason Buhari's government was and is still seen as the worst thing to happen to the zoo. He was the de facto president. He practically made all the decisions of the evil government. Abba Kyari was a wicked man. Nobody can make me change that impression of him. I saw his wickedness and evil deeds first hand. No idiot should rewrite history like people have been doing.

  18. Dear Aisha, you called him father, others call him chief of staff. Did you see the difference in the title.

You described your father at home.

But people are talking about Chief of staff at work...the two roles are different

There is no defense that would clear what people have been through in Buhari's administration and your father was part of it...he should have resigned if he meant well and the principal was creating issues by not considering his 'supposedly' meant well for the nation advises or opinions

  20. *Yar Adua of blessed memory is still talked about for how he was a fair man*. Today marks his 10years of departing this world. He was a good man.

Back to the matter : ( I read the total write up she did and picked some points)

You lacked nothing. Lucky you. Most people didn’t have that privilege despite trying so hard to make ends meet.

Daddy was planning on going to Bora Bora. That’s fine.
Your dad sent you at nine years to continue your education abroad. That’s fine. We all want the be for our kids.

Your dad was always going for family vacations...that’s equally fine.
    To mention but a few...

I never saw where you mentioned that inspite of being close to daddy, He never for once mentioned the plight of even your own townsmen, their kids and education ( let me narrow it down to charity begins at home) Your dad was in charge of the whole affairs in this country. Not even one good government hospital to boast of.
Al the ministers appointed for different job descriptions don’t even know what they are meant to do simply because your dad sat on all their units, even to the point of taking the role of a Power Minister to go and negotiate the power deal of the nation.
Truly Fashola, God is with you.

What was his job description again? Chief of Staff (2015-2020) Yet to see one soild project pushed by Dear Abba.

Btw, If I was in your shoes, I will praise my dad to the moon and back. But the question is What legacy did your dear daddy leave behind for the people whom he led?

    1. Fashola is no longer in charge of Power ministry. Na one hausa man like that (no surprises there)

A father at home is so different from a worker at the office.
Your father's handwriting at home is not the same at work.
You called him daddy and he gave you his fatherly treatment.
We called CSO and he gave us his mean treatment.
Your father allowed you to see his bald head at home.
The CSO never allowed us us to know he was bald.
We didn't know his real age, all in a bid to dribble us silly and he succeeded.
And you came out to tell us the tax payers, who fed you and your household that he was only 67.
Please don't let God be further angry.
