He disclosed that federal government was considering morning and afternoon classes when it reopens schools across the country.
Nwajiuba made the disclosure while speaking at the daily press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.
He explained that the government could not afford to risk the safety of students across the country.
from dailypost.
That's good to know.....seems the world is going back to ancient times
ReplyDeleteYes Ese. The ancient times indeed. In Lagos state, it used to be 8-12 for morning and 12-4 for afternoon section. At least with this timeplan, there won't be too much workload/stress on the teachers too. Cotonou still practice this system. Good Morning!
DeleteAncient times 😂 . It seems so.
DeleteDoes coro sleep at night???
ReplyDeleteWhich one is morning and afternoon classes...is that not the normal school hours
I wonder oo..
DeleteTo avoid population
DeleteThey want to reduce overcrowding, physical distance and others. It should reopen biko
DeleteIt's to limit crowding in class at one time. Half of the class will attend each session.
DeleteYou didn't even read to understand before commenting your ignorance.
DeleteAwwwn, beautiful initiative by the Government, bravo! But I hope it wouldn't be the teachers/Lectures that taught/lectured in the morning that would still do it in the afternoon??
ReplyDeletePrivate schools teachers are the That will be at the receiving end.
DeleteNice one👏🏼
ReplyDeleteThey better adhere to the safety precautions across all schools nationwide and also use this opportunity to employ more teachers, if they expect the previous teachers to teach during day and night, then they should increase or rather double their salary as well.
With this, when are the children then expected to close from school for the day, I mean the afternoon school people? With the traffic that has been trending in Lagos for a while now in the afternoons when workers try to rush back home before the curfew 😕
ReplyDeleteMake them think am well well biko. Can't wait for all this to be over but safety first.
But schools normally closes by 4/5 before naw
DeleteWhat bout for tertiary institutions na🤔🤔🤔
ReplyDeleteWell, it's a nice move all the same👌
Yes ooo....higher institution nko😒😒
DeleteThis is rubbish o, so kids will be going to school in the afternoon. How will they cope. Me personally hardly cope with afternoon class with all the hot sun and so many unconducive environment for learning wey full this country. Mtchewwwwwwwwwwwwww
ReplyDeleteTotal rubbish! How do they teach lil kids in KG and nursery social distancing and washing hands always? They should let these kids stay home!!
DeleteYounger kids will be morning,it would help in decongestion.
DeleteExactly Shantelle, they should let the kids stay at home. Children do not understand social distance especially KGs. Nigerian government is all mouth and no action. Day and night school indeed.
DeleteChildren should stay at home for how long?, covid19 is not leaving anytime soon,
DeleteStay at home for how long? Until they get the vaccine? How long do you think it would take? We need to get back into the society because the truth is that this virus will remain for a long time. Let's face reality,no sentiments! Everyone should be responsible(hygiene wise). Boost your immune system so that your body can fight the virus if you get exposed to it.
DeleteAnons,we're already back in the society. We're talking about kids here for goodness sake! Do you want your kids going to school and on their return, you're worried about who they might have had contact with?
DeleteThose in secondary and tertiary institutions can resume, they're old enough to take safety measures. But those in primary down to creche should stay home! Their parents should employ any of their job seeking relative to home school them.
It is well with us. No harm shall come near us or our loved ones. Amen.
ReplyDeleteIt is well with us. I believe gradually,, step by step, life will crawl back to normalcy. This is initiative is crucial and it's for the main time. God help the govt and the people. We'll make/survive it!
DeleteThis just remind me of when my older kid was in preschool afternoon session. before you drop off and do 1 or 2 things its 4hrs and time for pickup.
ReplyDeleteGood step for kids to get fresh air but it sucks because afternoon is like play/naptime.
FG and State Governments should build makeshift schools and employ more teachers (maybe on contract) and run morning sessions all through.
ReplyDeleteIf they could build makeshift hospitals , then they should do the same for schools.
Children should not be subjected to learning under the hot weather conditions and heavy, chaotic traffic in some cities.
Is this even feasible right now in your mind? When will they finish? When will they screen teachers, and then employ them? Do you honestly think corona virus will be completely eradicated anytime soon? What the government is doing now is short term plans. Something like this can be thought of later. Much later.
DeleteThis is Nigeria abeg and we know how these things work. Let's even applaud them for coming up with something this reasonable.
Then, they should continue with the online, TV and radio schools for the preschoolers and primary schools @11:36.
DeleteThank God they've started talking about schools. This is a new development.
ReplyDeleteI just wonder how they will do it especially for the young kids. How will they adjust that school is both morning and afternoon shifts.
ReplyDeleteAnd parents dropping them, how will they adjust to these because of work. Let's see how they will work it out
Everybody will adjust o... Cos this is exactly how most of us born in the 90's attended school back then. Especially those that attended government primary schools.
DeleteThey cannot sit home forever. The virus can't be eradicated soon. With luck, we'll get drugs like anti retroviral drugs for HIV. Finish!
Madam born in the 90s. Pls .this is not the 90s. Times have changed. I'm sure it doesn't take you 4hrs to get home for a journey of 30mins in the 90s
DeleteGood response @15:54!👍
DeleteThis gives me memories of my primary school days in uniprimary Nsukka...1 to 3 was morning while 4 to 6 was afternoon. Was really fun then but was stressful cos our afternoon time was short unlike morning classes.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea.
ReplyDeleteLet's return to school o
I hope they put teachers into consideration by at least increasing their salaries or by giving them allowance.
ReplyDeleteMany public schools are short staffed self. A lot of things have to be put in place to make this work. That is if parents release their children, particularly the younger ones.
DeleteBV Teetee.
That's a good one. Some children are already forgetting what they were taught in school sef
ReplyDeleteThe teachers will be under stress. Except more teachers will be recruited.
ReplyDeleteHope stingy school owners will employ more teachers. Not that one person will talk and teach morning and afternoon sessions with the same meagre salary...
ReplyDeleteWhether its #10 they'll be paying the teachers o... We will know. I totally understand this point.
DeleteBut then, it is most likely the same number of students that will still attend the school when it resumes, or even less. What do they stand to gain by employing more teachers? Don't forget that this school is also a business for them and most private school owners are capitalists.
So its going to be a case of if you can do it, fine. If you can't leave. And trust me, they'll employ someone else soon enough
This idea however, should be directed to the government.
Absolute nonsense if indeed cases are increasing then why the rush for children to go back to school , this our copy cat is not helping at all, I only feel for the poor children cos this guys are not thinking straight a month more will not kill the children if they wait, a lot of covid cases people are hiding and self medicating their kids are going to mix with other kids, how do you teach a child how to social distance and adhere to safety precautions? Hmm what do I know? It is well
ReplyDeleteAt least kids will stop going to school by 8 and closing by 4. They always come back so exhausted from school. Meanwhile, homework is still waiting for them daily. We had it better as kids abeg... and we didn't turn out badly.
ReplyDeleteWe cannot please everyone at the same time. With time I think corrections and adjustments will made as issues arise. I just hope the government will not disappoint eventually. It is well.
ReplyDeleteLovelace
so what will now happen to universities that had been on strike before now.
ReplyDeleteAnd all I thought was that I would finally be cleared to go for service before December .Most times I just hate being Nigerian
Most times?😂
DeleteSome private schools have empty classes which the govt can put extra students in. They may have to liase with private school owners to see how this can work.
ReplyDeleteThe govt needs to consider parents that drop kids off at school before heading to the office. If such kids are in afternoon session, how will such parents cope?
ReplyDeleteFor me i think it should be on some days in a week rather than morning or afternoon session! 🤷♀️🤷♀️
The government should stop this copy cat style of governance. Our kids cannot be exposed to the virus because we do not have facilities to handle that. They should improve the medical facilities first. The minister is trying so hard to cash out the situation as well. Can he truly put the lives of his own children at risk. What checks and balance system is available for the children???
ReplyDeleteThank you! I was wondering what sort of senseless idea it was to reopen schools. Especially at this time when infections are rising. How does thàtevenmake any sense?
DeleteWhat about toddlers? How are they going to follow guidelines like social distancing? In class, school bus and school premises. They can't carry or use their own sanitizers. Imagine all the surfaces they'll touch. You can't stop them from touching their faces and putting their hands in their mouth!
ReplyDeleteThey can resume if they want to. I have one child, I will home school her. I work from home. I no fit shout.
When past and present administrations and some undesirable citizens were playing to the gallery with corruption/looting of public funds they did not know 'the wind of Covid-19' will blow open their poor infrastructure or lack thereof.
ReplyDeleteNo proper urban and regional planning. No development of new cities in all regions interconnected by railway and good roads. No pipe-borne water. Undeveloped power sector. Non-existent health sector. Educational sector in shambles.
They thought they were doing Lagos State a favour by not allowing seaports in other States to be functional. See how over populated it has become with the influx of people from different States.
