Couch Convo -Owner Of House And Tenant Tales

You will not believe the things Landlords and tenants can cook up to get rid of each other or make each other uncomfortable

......it is even worse when a house is rented with the owner living in the building..

Share your tenant/owner of house tales....

Check out this story below,no one knows if its true or not but it is possible such stunt can happen...

''Last week, soldiers came to our house to pack my neighbor's property. There were five of them. This country is just lawless, uniform men treat civilians with impunity.

It was early on Saturday morning we saw a lorry truck drive into our compound with the soldiers. They got my neighbor and started beating him. No one could near them or say a word. We couldn't even try to cover the scene, to make a report.

They packed all his properties. Bundled him in the truck and drove off.

Luckily for him, his wife and two kids were saved the scene. They were at his mom's place since the lockdown began.

No matter his offence, such reaction from any army officer is extreme.

Even my landlady that was owed 1½ years rent was dumbfounded. She was told not to interfere at all by the soldiers. She was having issues over the unpaid rent prior to that event. Afterwards, her zeal to collect her money turned to pity.

We didn't even know where he was taken to. We've not heard about him for five days now. That's Nigeria for you. Anything can happen.

This afternoon I saw a friend of my neighbor and asked him if they got any news... he told me it was all a ploy by my neighbor, he wanted to pack out without paying the N360K rent owed, so he went to pay his soldier friend N10k who devised that plan to help him pack his load.

I put my hands on my head and shouted "Anwudialam!"

  4. When I newly got to this house, my landlord asked me out almost immediately. I didnt answer him at all. He wasnt living in the compound. Less than 2 years later, he moved into the compound and he continued his toasting. One day he was traveling to kaduna and he asked what he should bring for me and I said anything. He came with mangoes. Fellow BVs, you wont believe that after I ate those mangoes, I started craving this man. Whenever I see him, I just become wet. This man chop my punani wella until my eyes cleared. All the while, he was collecting rent oo. When my eyes cleared, I started avoiding him. Just greetings. Recently, he asked me to come and collect pawpaw. I told him later, that I was busy. He said he will come and give me. I just laughed. Once bitten, twice or even five time shy. Carry ya pawpaw commot for ya.

    14. This is your jazz story made me remember my NYSC days. One fine babe in my platoon got a house from one alhaji in Kano and the man liked her and asked her out immediately ...she agreed. Babe was balling then...he bought her a car, her house well furnished and trips abroad. Her NYSC finished the man asked her to be his wife...this man had 3 wives already o. Babe screamed God forbid lol. Man shock as in chop my money and go? Lai Lai...made her mad and locked her up.

After some months, her people came looking for her cos they couldn't reach her. They were taken to the Alhaji's house and the man insisted that the only way to free her was that she must agree to marry him. Her people said ok...na so this guy just drop incantations the babe got herself. He asked her again , will you marry me? The babe said God forbid again! The man kuku reversed her back to mad settings. Her people waka o..what can they do?

Hausa landlords are very nice even as tenants but if you cross them , they MUST hurt u.

I can't write the full story here, because 'we we' dey for here, but God will always raise up armies to fight for them. They will never lack anything good. God will cause men to go out of their way to favour them. They will continually enjoy sound health of mind and body and help will never be far from them. God will abundantly multiply them and their names be remembered for good alone

There is one house that i stayed in ibadan during my finals in the university,it was a relatives place tho rented, the landlord is an auto dealer,no wife/children stays with him.Just leaving alone. At times he will be walking about in the compound in the midnight mumuring, early morning he will spray white guineacorn and those black and white birds will come to pick and eat them.Of course the people i stayed with were not seeing it has been spiritual,i will wake up at midnight to pray and be praying loud as at the time the man is walking round the compound. The man never answered any of my greetings till i left that place.I later heard the man uses the tenant's destiny, people in the area are aware but all of them are cliques.

  9. Some landlords are very nice people. The man that owns the compound next to mine is one. He fixes anything that gets damaged in the house, Roof, soak away, window, etc and he doesn't fight his tenants for owwing rent. One man lost his job since last year, he told us that the landlord told him to leave the rent payment till he gets a job.

Our own landlord is the opposite. You must not owe him for one week. He will disgrace you. When he wants to be wicked, he normally comes very early Sunday morning when everyone is around and shout on you and insult your generation with a strong warning to pay in a week. If you don't pay, he will come with hoodlums to throw you out. You can't even make case with him, which money will you use to do that on top one room face me I face you.
My rent is due by end of June and I am having sleepless nights already as to how I will pay him. This pandemic really spoiled my plans. I pray God makes a way.

    1. Your landlord has not met a stubborn tenant especially an Igbo man with money.
He will show him something, take him to court and they will be on the case for two years while the tenant will not pay a dime for that two years.
The money meant for rent will be spent on lawyers for making case.
Last last he will be the one begging tenant to move out and forget the accumulated house rent.
I saw two of such cases when we were in Lagos.

Meanwhile, start sleeping Mrs Gee, God is in control. Remember you said you said you have high BP? Think of your children o.

    3. @Courage, that is a very WICKED thing for anyone to do. Because of those behaviour, many landlords in Lagos refuse to rent their place to Igbos, even Igbo landlords do the same. Your landlord may not be doing it the right way but it's his money. You are not suppose to owe him house rent.

When you own your house and a tenant treats you that way, you'll understand

      Delete
    4. BV Courage.....no wonder most landlord dont want to rent houses to igbo people.....how can you not pay rent intentionally and you have money for lawyer....Evil

    6. My elderly parents had an experience with such an "igbo" tenant. We had to go all the way to ojo from ibeju lekki to file a report at the lga.
He owed 2 year rent to a man that is in his mid 70's. When the case was settled my dad declined collecting the owed rent and asked that he should vacate the premises. He was given about 3months to do so. Upon all this the man destroyed so many things in the apartment. Alot of money was spent renovating the place after the irresponsible man left.
Any tenant that wants to be wicked should continue. The Bible says that as long as the earth remaineth seed, time and harvest shall not seize.
This is why alot of landlords lockup and don't show mercy.

      Delete
    7. All the igbo tenants my Dad had took advantage of him....One didnt pay for 2 good years and guess what he owns a car. How can you have a car and you owe 2 years rent for the 2 rooms you occupy. The other igbo man ( a pastor ooo)rented a 3bedroom flat and owed well over 2 years. He didn't pay until my dad died. We just told him to move out payment or no payment....plenty drama. I am scared of Igbo tenants, I'm sure they are not all like that though but I'm wary of any igbo prospective tenant, i'd rather not have to deal with them whether for my parent's property or mine

    8. Some landlords will not take you to court but just physically throw you out. There is a recent case that says once you don't pay rent you lose the status of a tenant and therefore Landlord is not bound by any agreement and can physically throw you out. This is what I tell my tenants. I will not waste any energy on court process. I am a lawyer as well.

    11. @ Courage This here is the reason why some landlords don't rent houses to Igbos in Lagos. It is wickedness and who so ever does that must reap a thousand folds. I know a lawyer that did this to a widow and didn't move out until he completed his house years later. It is absolutely despicable and wrong. Some also find it difficult to paint and maintain a house they live in simply because it's on lease and not their property. I am Igbo and will prefer not to rent my house to people like you with this wicked mentality. I pity anyone that will lease his house to you without a tight lease agreement. Rubbish.

  11. I had an experience with a former landlord.
I learnt he was into herbal stuff and had one terrible sore throat that defied all medication..the pains were so excruciating that i ran to him to help with a herbal remedy.
He gave me a liquid concoction to take that actually helped me....but then snakes started chasing me in my dreams...a gigantic Anaconda-like snake would always chase me every nigh..i would run and run and it would chase me..even if i run into the smallest holes..the huge snake would chase me..after a while i started noticing cobwebs on me even while walking on very wide roads..last last God helped me and i overcame through prayers...and even got my bank job while living in his house before i moved.

  12. My neighbor has been owing rent for two years now. He has refused to pay and has refused to move out.The landlord is tired. He has begged, threatened, done everything yet this tenant is still here. When the lawyer comes, they're always shouting. What I don't understand is why you'll be living ALONE in a three bedroom apartment. This my neighbor lives alone in this big house. He's divorced and his children do not live with him. Why live in a house that you can't afford to pay the rent? He doesn't pay the monthly 5k due that all the other tenants pay as well. ( the money is for running the house, paying the security guard,Lawma bill, buying fuel to pump water when there's no light etc) All the men are tired.

She just had too much time on her hands. She once accosted our househelp downstairs for not greeting her (abi for not answering her probing questions, can’t remember which), when the househelp left her and came upstairs, this woman followed her and started chasing her round our settee in the living room😳? They won't pay rent and yet they won't leave the house, you have to give them notice of six months before taking them to court. My dad doesn't live in that house, he doesn't even live in that state so he doesn't give them issues. A tenant was given quite notice and he damaged the house severely but we couldn't do anything because the law in Lagos protects the tenant only.

They attend Cele, so on one of those days we use to go and fetch water from a neighbour''s, I noticed them burying some dead fishes that was stinking already. .like 6 pieces at strategic points outside the compound where we keep dustbin....and I have been wondering what that means.....but so far ooo....I don't have any setbacks....no nightmares. ..we all mind our businesses in the compound...I am the only one staying upstairs before some corpers came to rent the down flat in march...the family is nice I must confess...person juju no fit catch me...I don't joke with midnight prayers too

The lady occupying the flat just got married and wanted someone to share the flat with her mum who was staying with her before she got married. Good compound. I took the masters bedroom while the mum stays in a room and parlour. We share kitchen. Since I entered the house. I took over the responsibility of paying utility bills because the old woman was not working and l can't stand sharing utility bills with her. This lady will frustrate me with calls a month before my rent expires till l pay with the excuse that the landlord is disturbing her to pay. Fellow BVs, this lady is owning the landlord for two years. She will collect my rent and use it. Humans are just WICKED. The house that is not yours. The owner of the house came last month with angry looking thugs and threatened to quit us if we don't remit within a month. Jesu!!. People gathered. I was surprised because l paid my rent in February. I confronted the landlord in anger and he said my sister has not paid him for two years. Oluwa!!!! Everybody think she is my sister because of the way l relate with her mum. I have been mad. Don't even know how l feel. I am desperately looking for house. We will settle the matter when l pack out. 22. My dad has also suffered in the hands of tenants. We had this tenant that won't pay his rent as at when due. He never, ever, ever paid his complete rent. For example, if his rent was 250k per year, he'll owe for two years and pay 250 instead of 500k. He lived in my dad's house for about 12 years and that was his custom. He wasn't broke or anything. Infact, He works in a very good company. His wife earns well as well but they never just paid rent as at when due and when they eventually pay, they'll spread the money over like 6/8 months. It was always useless. You won't be able to do anything meaningful with the money. My dad was always sharing the money amongst us. Anyways, they moved out to their own house. Jesus! If you see the house. He was owing rent and was building his own house. My dad has never been one to really care about money maybe because he has other sources of income but it is wrong to take advantage of good landlords especially when you are rich and have the means to pay your rent.

What if they had permanently injured him or he dies from a injury nko?

    Let me down memory lane🤣

My former Landlady before I got married was a tyrant. We lived in calm and responsible avenue within our estate. When we came in for the 2 bedroom downstairs,we saw some properties packed close to the backyard and she gave us one reasons like that. We liked the environment, apartment, water, proximity to b/s, constant light etc though high- 800k. When we knew that she was WAHALA personified was after we paid,I have never seen such a financially comfortable and razz human being before.Very controlling, monitoring, talks round the compound every with calls. She won't do her ticketing business in their apartment, she will come to their verandah or our own other the neighbors frontage,ha! So noisy a person. Always doing Clubs and Associations parole.

My friend and i had always minded our business ,so when we moved in and saw her hypocritic nature,we maintained our lane like before. Our routine was Work-Church-work-church. She had so many Dos and Donts even the ones that infringed on a tenants rights but we didn't care cos we troare notublesome neither are we always around.
She was just giving tenants hypertension and we and the guy at the front bungalow were just respecting ourselves. She will call you on the phone to ask you take away your closthes from the line, Don't keep anything outside your door even for a second, nobody should visit you and she is always monitoring the gate cause their apartment I upstairs is at the front.,so many things.
This woman was fighting with everyone, ejecting and renting

She then went to rent the apartment besides her upstairs to an Asaba Nollywood ajakuata actress,hmmm... We,she and everybody hear am. This actress should be around 45yrs with tattoos all over her body, nose ring, dredlocks. Her crazy friends will drive in and be blarring rubbish music in the compuond and be screaming and talking on phone, drinking, smoking with tattoos on their bodies. They come in and and go out any time.
Men nko? O Chim, different species, tall, short, portbellied, young, old, married, single, all shades troop in like water. Some looking like assassin's and armed robbers hmmm. Landlady tire. Our small Victorian boulevard became ghetto o,cars, people, fighting. Some friends will come fight some other friends with her in compound. She and lady was now digging it,landlady no reach. Sometimes we feel she is a prostitute, sometimes we conclude she is a native doctor or priestess of a good, cause 20 men can visit her in a day. I don't know if she was practicing clairvoyancy or something.

    #LOVE😍

  24. As we were trying to adjust with the hell, Landlay now rented the apartment behind our own to some Instagram slay quen runs girls. So Ubers are always parked in our close plus actress care. These girls walk around in pant in bra. Always going an coming - they were 3 that rented the apartment and like joke like job their friends were coming and going. They broke all the rules and regulations guiding the compound and their lifestyle was affecting is,our Victoria boulevard, and entire estate. Landlady come hide and cool like puppy. It was war. She now started being nice to myself and the guy at the front after comparing her former tenants with the whala that she took in.
Did i tell you that those girls fight almost every, they broke toilets, toilet pipes, yanked off doors from their hinges. They even call police for themselves. Me and my sister just they observe, cos the woman see us as Jew girls, Egbe cos we are religious and we didn't even bother.

Ins short you will pity her,we we're even feeling for the husband,a humble quiet godly man but he handed over the renting of the apartments to the wife. I don't even know how that man was coping with the way these girls wee throwing flesh around.

She refused them renewing and they - the girls and Asaba Nollywood Actress refused to live hmmm... Landlady gave then 3 month to leavet after their rents, they stayed the 3 months and then sue Landlay through their lawyers. Last last actress left after staying one extra year and didn't pay.
Our Landlady na money miss road, she is not wise or business smart just shouting up and Dan.

She started sending us text messages 5 months before the expiration of our rent, by the 9 months of moving in she started reminding us face-to-face,by 2 months she graduated to knocking on our door or stand on her balcony to remind us as we go to work or coming back. We later found out those those properties at the back were those of the family who occupied our apartment before.
The funny thing is that we saw these ladies when they came to survey the apartments, they were looking razz and semi naked. We
knew they were TROUBLE yet this woman gave them house because of the high rent she collects, her love for money blinded her reasoning.

Oh,did I tell you guys that the guy at the front bungalow left and this woman when to rent the apartment to a scammer husband and wife. We dont know their parol with Landlady but they moved in by giving the Landlady a dud cheque. Those ones packed in in the middle of the night with just a few bags., by their 3rd night of their moving in,the guy was already abusing and beating his wife abi na fiancee and this continued like 4 times weekly He was doing Indian hemp, threatening the Landlay and landlord with soldiers. That he has lived in a compound for 3 years without payment, they Sha left after 4 months without paying a damn.

I got married from that compound, she and the husband came for my wedding and gave me gift.

My husband's Landlady is a wonderful personality.

Thing is, Landlord//lady-Tenant realationship requires wisdom and the spirit of discernment for both parties

Abeg, let me drop my pen in the basket of love.

    Doxology.

  25. My former landlord rented an apartment out to an armed robber at some point. The guy was all kind of shady and we were always afraid to even see him. Always wore hats and just had this creepy look that gave him out. He moved in at night one day and connected his generator. Somehow his generator gave my own place light. I enjoyed the light for the short period he was there. He didn’t live long in the house and in life. Cos according to rumour, he was shot to death during an operation. I was not home when his things were moved but my neighbors told me that a lot of brand new electronics were moved out of his house by his friend and it was the same person that told them about his demise.

  26. My landlord is a gentleman to the core. He has a listening ear and ever ready to solve issues concerning his house. The only problem is the razz
Bag of potatoes baby mama and her bleaching sister that lives there. They scream at people over little issues and are very very inconsiderate human beings. She gave birth to a baby boy for an OAP who is married to an Edo woman last year. This razz woman and her sister are trouble makers but the other tenants are matured enough to ignore them when they start insulting others and behaving like spoilt children. This covid period she's like ice water because her guy has not been sneaking out to see her. Early this year, she lied to her quack lawyer that the other tenants were harassing and intimidating her because they complained to the care taker about her excessive noise making. The idiot wrote a letter to the care taker threatening to deal with everyone, as usual the other tenants ignored her, I guess she's tired because nobody dey look her face or exchange words with her. The way to deal with such people is to ignore them and behave like they don't exist.

  27. My last landlord was terrible. When I relocated last year I was told to be careful of the kind of house I rented and should rather pick a house during rainy season.
I frantically searched and was already desperate then I saw a fairly new house for rent in February, moved in March. Since it was almost new I felt it won't have the kind of scary issue I've been hearing about some houses here.
I asked the basic questions like availability of water, light, disposing of thrash and situation with flood and the answers given were satisfactory.
First thing we noticed was unavailability of water. The landlord and his family were hoarding water and disconnecting our flat sometimes. Not to be like complaining tenants we got a boy to be fetching for us for a token. The worst happened in June when it rained heavily for two days, it exposed the flaws of the house. Our mattress got wet, moisture got trapped destroying some of our clothes, bags and shoes. Oh I was in tears. The height was when it started to affect my health, I started having severe allergies, then ear infections apparently the mold from the house was growing in my ear and it caused an infection. I had spent too much on medications and told this landlord to please help us with a refund(we had stayed 4 months as at the discovery). We don't mind him keeping back 2 months. Despite our explanations, these people were not remorseful and sympathetic to our situation. We got a lawyer involved but it was obvious the case was going to be cold considering the way things are done at my present location. We had to leave 6 months rent behind and got another place but since that time my health hasn't been the same.
Someone was even telling me that maybe the landlord is the cause, he probably went diabolical. I laughed profusely and said he no reach. But for me as difficult as it was I've forgiven the landlord.
Thank God I'm better now, still going for checkups but considering what I went through from December till March I'm grateful to be alive.

The new house I got it's the tenant that wants to be bossy because in her old mind she's Methuselah. Once bitten twice shy. That someone is calm or looks calm doesn't mean the person is stupid. I won't swallow what I swallowed in the last place.

  28. My landlord is out of the country but leave his wife in charge of the house. Things are going on fine for the past three years we have been living there till one yahoo guy came to rent the house. He will on generator during the day and at night till morning and the noise of the gen is too much. So all the tenants did meeting and we all concluded that gen all gen must be off by 11pm.
U won't believe this guy did not yield to the rule. And I went to the landlady that the noise of the gen is causing migraine for me.The mumu landlady told me to go off the gen myself, how is that possible? Is it my responsiblity? U want to cause fight between tenant? Till now the mumu landlady did not do anything about it. Is my husband that now went to the guy to complain about the noise of the gen and the guy is now reluctantly offing it around 1am. He is going to force us out of the house.
