Banker Commits Suicide And Leaves Notes For Father And Girlfriend

The body of a young man who has been identified as Kelvin Rhima was found dangling from a ceiling fan by neighbours on Tuesday night, May 19th, in his mini apartment in Lagos.

The deceased banker's body was discovered by his neighbours who noticed he had not come outside since the previous night and the door to his house was locked from inside.

After knocking non stop at his door without any response, they peeped through his window and found him hanging from the ceiling.

According to a neighbour, Barry Olarenwaju, who spoke with Vanguard

“When we didn’t see him on Tuesday morning outside, we felt he was sleeping inside, but when it was getting late we got worried because there was no padlock at his entrance to indicate that he had gone out.

"We tried to open the door, because it was locked from inside, that was when we began to bang on the door. By the time we went to the window he was seen dangling and his tongue stuck out. From the look of things, it was obvious that it was on Monday he died because the corpse had begun to bloat.”

Another tenant in the building, who did not want to be known, said "immediately we discovered the corpse, we raised alarm. It was a battle before getting policemen to come to the scene to access the situation. We went to Area G on Tuesday night to inform them about the situation and they asked us to go to Pen Cinema division, which we did."

“Ironically, when the police came, they wanted to detain all the tenants we had to pay N2,000 each so that we won’t be implicated in a matter we don’t know anything about. After which they still abandoned the corpse with the excuse that the mortuary was filled up. They only took pictures.”

The deceased also left a suicide note for his father and girlfriend which was retrieved by the police.

    2. You see when you type like this you give off the opinion of being rude and insensitive. You probably have no idea what depression is or having to suffer from anxiety disorders. While you're allowed to condemn the act of suicide you can choose to be constructive with your criticism. Why not encourage those in similar situations to reach out,why not offer your friendship and councel to people hurting? Your choice of words and your use of "God" does not flow at all sister. Be kind or just say nothing at all.

I get, sometimes, life could throw you stones that will make you feel life is not worth living but then you should know that temptations and perseverance are a part of the human existence and as such,we should believe that everything that has a beginning also has an end.

Suicide is never the option please. Bv Yori Yori never said anything contrary to the normal norm so please take it easy on her.

May the soul of the departed rest in peace.

    9. Anonymous 10:50, I know life is tough back home in Nigeria but hey suicide is NEVER the easiest route out please. I do not know what you may be going through but from your comment you sound deeply down and please I do not mean this in a bad way but just with love to let you know you will be fine, while I was in Nigeria, I was down and out frustrated at 41 I lost my job as a manager in the bank, can you beat that? the bank folded up, I had no husband though that was not an issue but I always had the love of my siblings who were living overseas and few friends I always laughed with over my situation and I had strength to carry on, talk about your ossues, I then relocated to the United Kingdom and today I have a son and I work with HSBC and married to the love of my life, but I was so depressed and suicidal 5yrs ago, please this young banker killing himself is all shades of wrong and MUST be condemned. Whatever may be bothering is now, you look back in 1yr or so and laugh at how stupid we were getting depressed over it.

    10. Yori yori may be sounding insensitive but I kinda get her, apart from people with mental disorders like schizophrenia, bipolar, clinical depression, psychotic and major depression and its likes where one doesn't have the mental capacity to think right, no one has the right to take their lives, no issue in this world should make you even nurture the idea of taking your life. Yes, tough times will spring up, situations might be the lowest for you, your case may be the worse the world has ever seen, still do not contemplate suicide.. Fight it off, fight for your life, last last none of us is going to get out of this journey called life alive, so what's the need of hurrying the process?
I mean.. How are you sure killing yourself will make things better, what if the land of the dead will be even worse for you?? So what will you then do?? Kill your spirit?
The truth may sound blunt and insensitive, but it remains true. DO NOT TAKE YOUR OWN LIFE.

Yes, depression exists but taking one’s life ain’t the solution which I believe is his point. Sometimes, we have to learn to be open minded and view things from all angles for a better perception. You could actually school him without going down to that level.
And yes, Essah can be annoying in his comments so I don’t support him.

Oh no EESAH it's not cowardice at all, people like u see death and gets scared, u reflect, u ponder etc. But a suicidal person will endure all the pains from hanging, drowning or whatever means to die. They are not cowards my dear, they conquered the fear of death. They saw death and faced it straight in the eye.
It's a horrible place to be depressed to feel like nothing in this life is worth living for, don't ever pray u get to those depths. It takes God's grace and a constant reminder of love from someone who loves you to pull you out.
Sometimes this life is really not what living. What are u enjoying here? Light or roads or cars or movies is that enjoyment compared to sickness, this covid 19, unemployment, loneliness, failure, DV, rape, robbery, ritualists, sex both gay and other lews sex stuffs, paedophiles, murder, corruption. Abegi it's a lot sometimes to deal with if u are emotional and constantly read or experience nonsense.

According to him, She didn't die immediately, she was very weak but no-one wanted to help her cos they initially thought it was COVID 19. She eventually died and she died in front of his shop. Himself and neighbors tried all they could to get in touch with the police. It was such a chore. They kept transferring them from one agency to another. Eventually, after about 3 days, they had to pay 15k to fuel the vehicle of the agency that picked the corpse up. Nigeria is such a joke.

For those who have harsh words to say, please be mindful of your comments.

I am alive today because I chose to be. From my experience people kill themselves because of the way people treat them in their predicament, not necessarily because of the problem itself.

Loved ones turn accusers, friends who gossip and spread negativity, condemnation and judgement from people who have no idea how you got to that stage of your life . I could go on and on.

But whatever the case, killing yourself ain't never the answer.

May we not face problem that will overwhelm us.

What have they gone through that no one else has gone through?

Am not trying to sound insensitive but when you think of what those who you would leave behind would suffer why tow that route
For me it's a calculated plan to escape the world and it's worries,

If only wishes could come through let those who want to commit suicide exchange their lives for those who are sick and dying in the hospital

I would keep saying it, no one at all holds the key to my happiness, I alone can determine what happens if I see you bring negative vibes I move away

No one and nothing in this world is worth killing my precious self for

    1. Some are medical/mental health issues but some cases are just hopelessness. The world is a jungle, by & by it's still survival of the fittest. Life is hard, adulting is harder. Unfortunately some are not prepared for it. Some make bad decisions or good decisions that turn bad. I know how hard I've worked in life, the sweat and tears I sowed, but I was fortunate to have parents that prepared me with good educational and spiritual foundation. It's exhaustion, shattered dreams, fear, anxiety, failure...utter hopelessness. They just didn't know God's love is bigger than it all.

  43. Don't be too quick to pontificate or judge the deceased harshly. You can condemned his actions yet remain empathetic or, at least, sympathetic. Suicide is never the right solution but you shouldn't dismiss someone else's story or life's journey, especially when you have no idea of their struggles.

Do you know what it feels like to be utterly hopeless? I mean to feel absolutely devoid of hope? Do you have the slightest concept of what people labouring under the affliction of mental illness go through? Do you know how persuasive and overpowering the spirit behind suicide is? Perhaps you've gone through your fair share of hard knocks and you survived, that experience ought to humble you and not make you arrogant enough to speak ill of people who are less strong. Our thresholds for adversity vary, what kills someone may make another stronger. You, who feels justified to judge, may be totally knocked out by an event that someone else may take in stride.

You may feel you are mentally and emotionally balanced and would NEVER attempt suicide, but can you say the same about ALL your family members and loved ones? I bet the young man's father hadn't the slightest inclination that his son was suicidal until it was too late. God forbids it happens to a person you loved dearly and you also were blindsided by the suicide, would you want excoriation or sympathy?

Some people came dangerously close to suicide but are alive today by God's grace and the timely intervention and encouragement from friends and family. Perhaps, if someone had been around to counsel and encourage him the day he committed suicide, he may still be alive, who knows? While we raise our voices in unison to condemn the act of suicide, let's show sympathy for the lost souls, please.
