The deceased banker's body was discovered by his neighbours who noticed he had not come outside since the previous night and the door to his house was locked from inside.
After knocking non stop at his door without any response, they peeped through his window and found him hanging from the ceiling.
According to a neighbour, Barry Olarenwaju, who spoke with Vanguard
“When we didn’t see him on Tuesday morning outside, we felt he was sleeping inside, but when it was getting late we got worried because there was no padlock at his entrance to indicate that he had gone out.
"We tried to open the door, because it was locked from inside, that was when we began to bang on the door. By the time we went to the window he was seen dangling and his tongue stuck out. From the look of things, it was obvious that it was on Monday he died because the corpse had begun to bloat.”
Another tenant in the building, who did not want to be known, said "immediately we discovered the corpse, we raised alarm. It was a battle before getting policemen to come to the scene to access the situation. We went to Area G on Tuesday night to inform them about the situation and they asked us to go to Pen Cinema division, which we did."
“Ironically, when the police came, they wanted to detain all the tenants we had to pay N2,000 each so that we won’t be implicated in a matter we don’t know anything about. After which they still abandoned the corpse with the excuse that the mortuary was filled up. They only took pictures.”
The deceased also left a suicide note for his father and girlfriend which was retrieved by the police.

This is a horrible thing to do...If you are reading this and you are already suicidal,do not be encouraged by this post to kill yourself, please be encouraged to know that this behaviour is not the solution,go and get help from those you know can help...
so sad.
ReplyDeleteMore than sad
DeleteVery sad. I hope that he finds in death, the peace he couldn't find in life. May God console his loved ones.
DeleteWho will save us from Nigeria police, for them every situation is for money making. Same way they have been taking bribe during this intern state lock.
DeleteThis is sad. May his soul rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteThe police won't fail to disappoint. Why collect money from the people for reporting an incidence? Smh.
I’m telling you. Such a disgraceful bunch.
DeleteCan’t even type RIP cuz he obviously died unhappy. May God console those he left behind. Amen ππΌ.
Don't know how those people think. Why would you arrest the co-tenants? What is their crime? Living next door to a suicidal person? I just wonder.
DeletePeople having covid 19 are ready to give all to have life, while this guy saw nothing to live.
ReplyDeleteI won't waste my RIP. May God comfort your families who are in pains of your going too soon.
Life is sweet to allow devil waste you. A lot are ready to sacrifice more to live more than 100.
Let's learn not to listen to strange voices. Keep praying to God to deliver us from strange voices
WOW! The insensitivity of some BVs never ceases to amaze me. May you never be in a situation where suicide is the only option. You obviously have never been tested, so it's easy for you to be reckless with your words. I feel sorry for you. May you never experience the trials of Job.
DeleteWell said Yori Yori.
DeleteYou see when you type like this you give off the opinion of being rude and insensitive. You probably have no idea what depression is or having to suffer from anxiety disorders. While you're allowed to condemn the act of suicide you can choose to be constructive with your criticism. Why not encourage those in similar situations to reach out,why not offer your friendship and councel to people hurting? Your choice of words and your use of "God" does not flow at all sister. Be kind or just say nothing at all.
DeleteFrom your comment, its clear how naive & uneducated you are. @Yori.
DeleteYou have no idea what depression is about.
10.42 there is no situation where suicide is the only option. Suicide can never be the only option, let's stop making statements like these.
DeleteAnnon 10:42 sincerely speaking, nothing should make one think of taking his own life. I get, sometimes, life could throw you stones that will make you feel life is not worth living but then you should know that temptations and perseverance are a part of the human existence and as such,we should believe that everything that has a beginning also has an end.
DeleteSuicide is never the option please. Bv Yori Yori never said anything contrary to the normal norm so please take it easy on her.
May the soul of the departed rest in peace.
Talk is cheap. Just be happy you and people you know have not been hit by depression and are mentally okay. Show a little sympathy please this is sensitive and if you can't then you must not comment.
DeleteMay his soul RIP and give his family the fortitude to bear his loss. Depression is real and mental awareness should be more promoted in Nigeria.
@Yori Yori Please its good you don't make any statement at all you have got nothing nice to say. People can't be the same, not everyone has that mental capacity. Just show empathy and move on. You don't want to know how dark that hole is
DeletePlease don't judge like that You've no idea the inner demons and daily battles people are facing. One doesn't just wake up and decide to take his/her life. He probably has tried to fight it and failed. We should all pray for God's grace
DeleteAnonymous 10:50, I know life is tough back home in Nigeria but hey suicide is NEVER the easiest route out please. I do not know what you may be going through but from your comment you sound deeply down and please I do not mean this in a bad way but just with love to let you know you will be fine, while I was in Nigeria, I was down and out frustrated at 41 I lost my job as a manager in the bank, can you beat that? the bank folded up, I had no husband though that was not an issue but I always had the love of my siblings who were living overseas and few friends I always laughed with over my situation and I had strength to carry on, talk about your ossues, I then relocated to the United Kingdom and today I have a son and I work with HSBC and married to the love of my life, but I was so depressed and suicidal 5yrs ago, please this young banker killing himself is all shades of wrong and MUST be condemned. Whatever may be bothering is now, you look back in 1yr or so and laugh at how stupid we were getting depressed over it.
DeleteYori yori may be sounding insensitive but I kinda get her, apart from people with mental disorders like schizophrenia, bipolar, clinical depression, psychotic and major depression and its likes where one doesn't have the mental capacity to think right, no one has the right to take their lives, no issue in this world should make you even nurture the idea of taking your life. Yes, tough times will spring up, situations might be the lowest for you, your case may be the worse the world has ever seen, still do not contemplate suicide.. Fight it off, fight for your life, last last none of us is going to get out of this journey called life alive, so what's the need of hurrying the process?
DeleteI mean.. How are you sure killing yourself will make things better, what if the land of the dead will be even worse for you?? So what will you then do?? Kill your spirit?
The truth may sound blunt and insensitive, but it remains true. DO NOT TAKE YOUR OWN LIFE.
He has already killed himself. He cannot 'hear' you all argue about the decision he took. Whether you write RIP or not, he is dead.
DeleteMost persons that commit suicide have psychiatric problems... They deal with Hallucinations and Delusions which are symptoms of depression...
DeleteBut suicide can never be encouraged, whatsoever any person with good mental health is passing through, he or she can overcome it and suicide is not the easy way out! Peace to you all
So sad!
ReplyDeleteReally sad.
Deleteπππππππππππ
ReplyDeleteNigerian police will sha like to implicate people.
ReplyDeleteSuicide is not an option. Only God knows what prompted that decision to take his own life.
After the implication, you will hear, why didn't you stop him from committing suicide like the person told them before the act.
DeleteMay God not let us see situations, travails, poverty, sickness that will make us think suicide is the best option. Amen.
I feel for the people he left behind.
Nigerian police are a bunch of senseless, useless lots! They threatened the tenants to pay money, after that they still left the corpse there. Odiegwu!
DeleteImagine them leaving the corpse behind, it will so scary I pity his neighbors can't imagine me sleeping in that house knowing there is a body in same compound. Yeah.
DeleteThis is just so sad to read.
ReplyDeleteIf only depresssion can be vivid like a wrinkle on the forehead, but sadly, they have the widest smile.
May his soul rest in peace.
So sad. Comfort for those he left behind
ReplyDelete““Ironically, when the police came, they wanted to detain all the tenants we had to pay N2,000 each so that we won’t be implicated in a matter we don’t know anything about. After which they still abandoned the corpse with the excuse that the mortuary was filled up. They only took pictures.”
ReplyDeleteThe Nigeria police system is terribly pathetic! May the soul of the departed find eternal peace. #SucideIsNotAnOption please stay alive for those who love you ❤️
You can say that again!!!! A country that has no empathy for human lives, how else do you think they gonna treat the dead.
DeleteVery horrible!! They hardly use their brains, very horrible set of people.. On the other hand, a murder could be termed Suicide so as to cover the crime.. Just thinking out loud
DeleteI hope it's not girlfriend issues. Suicide should never be an option. Killing one's self is a way of cowards π
ReplyDeleteI laugh when y'all display this level of ignorance.
DeleteYou must think its an easy decision to wake up one morning & make a conscious effort to end your life.... & succeed. On the contrary, a cowardice cant pull that thru.
Depression is a disease of the mind, you lose every scintilla of value life has to offer. Just read your koran & pray never to walk in their shoes.
Learn to show empathy
DeleteMacbeth, let me sound it to your ignoramous self again, KILLING ONE'S SELF IS A WAY OF COWARDS and if you are planing on taking that route, you are a coward, you'll die a coward and wake up on resurrection day a coward!!
DeleteIt'd be more profitable to watch paint dry on a wall than argue with you... going thru a "brick brain" like yours will require brawn and less brain, huge waste of strength.
DeleteYoure a Chihuahua in my eyes, how do you stand to a Doberman pinscher?? Uncircumcised Aboki.
Eesah πππ
DeleteYeah,Macbeth o!!.now "chiwawa" Isa,run along,lmao
DeleteDon't argue with Nigerians some of them are already miserable and bitter don't know how to show empathy
DeleteMacbeth, don’t you think everyone to their opinion? Essah voiced his opinion and I don’t think that’s wrong. He is just pointing out something. Yes, depression exists but taking one’s life ain’t the solution which I believe is his point. Sometimes, we have to learn to be open minded and view things from all angles for a better perception. You could actually school him without going down to that level.
DeleteAnd yes, Essah can be annoying in his comments so I don’t support him.
I think what Macbeth is saying is it takes one of strong mind to commit suicide.
DeleteOh no EESAH it's not cowardice at all, people like u see death and gets scared, u reflect, u ponder etc. But a suicidal person will endure all the pains from hanging, drowning or whatever means to die. They are not cowards my dear, they conquered the fear of death. They saw death and faced it straight in the eye.
DeleteIt's a horrible place to be depressed to feel like nothing in this life is worth living for, don't ever pray u get to those depths. It takes God's grace and a constant reminder of love from someone who loves you to pull you out.
Sometimes this life is really not what living. What are u enjoying here? Light or roads or cars or movies is that enjoyment compared to sickness, this covid 19, unemployment, loneliness, failure, DV, rape, robbery, ritualists, sex both gay and other lews sex stuffs, paedophiles, murder, corruption. Abegi it's a lot sometimes to deal with if u are emotional and constantly read or experience nonsense.
NPF is joke. What! They wanted to arrest the tenants for reporting. Na wa. May the young man rest in peace. Suicide is NEVER the option. Whatever phase one is in, it will surely pass. Just keep holding on.
ReplyDeleteSMH @Nigeria Police... This is a sad news. People are going through alot but suicide is never the solution.
ReplyDeleteThey see it as the ONLY option.
DeleteSo sad! Suicide is not the answer to whatever problem one is going through. Keep on fighting, praying and God will see you through.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity really....
ReplyDeleteWhat if there's no one to run to? Leave him for God.
ReplyDeleteHa!!!God,so sad.May God comfort the family he left behind.
ReplyDeleteRest in peace
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad end.... May his soul rest in peace.... Nigerian police are the biggest problem of this country.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad end.... May his soul rest in peace.... Nigerian police are the biggest problem of this country.
ReplyDeleteIt's clearly a suicide case yet the police want to detain tenants? Because they were the ones who hung him? Police!! SMH
ReplyDeleteMay we not be left with suicide as the only option., He was a banker? Frustration.
May his soul rest in peace
ReplyDeleteSo all the police cared for is the 2k per tenant. Tomorrow they will be chanting "police is your friend"
ReplyDeletePls dose under depression should speak out for d world to hear, speak out dats were d healing n solution will start coming.
ReplyDeleteI knw is not easy may God almighty cone tru for those facing difficulty in life. Remember God loves u.
As in ehn
ReplyDeleteAs in ehn
I can't just comprehend.
How, what, which, I just dunno whatever can abi could have been the reason for him taking his life which is a gift from God.
In the end may God grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
I hope he's not one of those Anonymous that always complain about being tired of life/living.
ReplyDeleteSuicide is not the easiest way out!!!
Why is Nigerian police so useless, they demanded for money and wanted to detain the neighbours that called their attention to the suicide scene. Nigerian police needs re-evaluation.
It's only a coward that commit sucide. There's no problem do big that should make a man kill himself.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know where you're going to after death. You cause your family and love ones pain and untold embarrassment for your stupid action.
Sucide s not the end of pain, it's another chapter.
Hmm you actually sound as if you are super human but you are not. You enjoy talking carelessly and you need to work on that.
DeleteShowing insensitivity as usual. Are you in his life to know what he is going through?Mscheww
DeleteBefore someone can do this know they have lost all hope; they have fought their demons and can no longer fight. its truly sad,but i will NEVER judge them.
RIP
No matter what you are going through right now, please hold on still, don't give up my dear.
ReplyDeleteThe situation we are all facing is enough reason to commit suicide but I trust God that he will definitely come through for us.
May his soul rest well.
No matter what you are going through right now, please hold on still, don't give up my dear.

Its a pity. Rip
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity.suicide is not an option pls..once there is life there is hope.
ReplyDeleteNigerian police is something else. They look for every illicit means to make money.Tueh
ReplyDeleteWow really sad, the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy but CHRIST comes to give life..John 10:10. Please let's run into the arms of GOD for life. Good Morning House.
ReplyDeleteOur carpenter recently told us about a dead body that was in front of his shop. I even saw the corpse. He said, she was a prostitute that worked at the hotel around his shop. She was used for ritual.
ReplyDeleteAccording to him, She didn't die immediately, she was very weak but no-one wanted to help her cos they initially thought it was COVID 19. She eventually died and she died in front of his shop. Himself and neighbors tried all they could to get in touch with the police. It was such a chore. They kept transferring them from one agency to another. Eventually, after about 3 days, they had to pay 15k to fuel the vehicle of the agency that picked the corpse up. Nigeria is such a joke.
U can imagine, after they will say ' police is your friend' , that's why no people are scared to do 'good Samaritan' before you are roped into a crime you didn't commit
Delete#15k for fuel? Are they travelling to Lagos? Useless, corrupt police officers that have no shame
DeleteSuicide is not an option
ReplyDeleteOh this is so sad to read aboutπ’
ReplyDeleteMay we never find ourselves in any circumstance or situation that we will be forced to see suicide as our only optionππΎππΎππΎ
Nigeria police force will always embarrass themselvesπ€¦π½♂️
All these people saying rubbish here I wish you all experience depression at least once in your lives.
ReplyDeleteDon't are depressed but they refused to accept it.
DeleteThis made me she tears. Why oh why?
ReplyDeleteMay God comfort his family
Amen. Once you start having suicidal thoughts please talk to someone. May God console those he left behind
ReplyDeleteSometimes life can be full of challenges and difficulties that you may want question your reason for existing. I know this because I have contemplated ending it sometimes, married, no child, no good job with other health issues. It's well shaa
ReplyDeleteYou will overcome all,you will look back to this day and glorify God.Please suicide is not an option. It is well with you.
Delete@maryjane, please stay strong. If you're still alive then there's still hope. God turns around situations. He has turned my life situation around and I know he can do the same for you but you have to be alive to see it first. You'll be fine. I'm sending you lots of warm hugs
DeleteTight hugs dear. You will be fine, trust God
DeleteGod will come through for you.♥️
DeleteSad.
ReplyDeleteStella, it’s unfortunate that most visitors still make statements like “ Suicide is not the ONLY option”
Maybe you can talk to someone who works with Suicide Prevention hotline to do a post on suicidal tendencies.
It’s not just problems that lead to suicide. We need to be informed. Didn’t that successful chef Anthony Bourdain commit suicide?
This is sad oo
ReplyDeleteMay his soul rest in peace .
This is so sad. Honestly, suicide is never the way out. Even In d case of blaxkmail, betrayal I threat, misfortune or heart break.
ReplyDeleteTime Is d healer of all wounds and revealer of all truth.
Just hold on to God and take one day at a time
Very sad.
ReplyDeleteFor those who have harsh words to say, please be mindful of your comments.
I am alive today because I chose to be. From my experience people kill themselves because of the way people treat them in their predicament, not necessarily because of the problem itself.
Loved ones turn accusers, friends who gossip and spread negativity, condemnation and judgement from people who have no idea how you got to that stage of your life . I could go on and on.
But whatever the case, killing yourself ain't never the answer.
May we not face problem that will overwhelm us.
I feel people who commit suicide are selfish very selfish.
ReplyDeleteWhat have they gone through that no one else has gone through?
Am not trying to sound insensitive but when you think of what those who you would leave behind would suffer why tow that route
For me it's a calculated plan to escape the world and it's worries,
If only wishes could come through let those who want to commit suicide exchange their lives for those who are sick and dying in the hospital
I would keep saying it, no one at all holds the key to my happiness, I alone can determine what happens if I see you bring negative vibes I move away
No one and nothing in this world is worth killing my precious self for
So so very sad
ReplyDeleteSometimes we all have to see the world beyond our physical eyes. Suicide is a demonic spirit, I know some persons would come here trying to give a medical explanation for suicide and all but the truth is that there is a force behind depression and suicide.
ReplyDeleteSome are medical/mental health issues but some cases are just hopelessness. The world is a jungle, by & by it's still survival of the fittest. Life is hard, adulting is harder. Unfortunately some are not prepared for it. Some make bad decisions or good decisions that turn bad. I know how hard I've worked in life, the sweat and tears I sowed, but I was fortunate to have parents that prepared me with good educational and spiritual foundation. It's exhaustion, shattered dreams, fear, anxiety, failure...utter hopelessness. They just didn't know God's love is bigger than it all.
DeleteThank you, there is always a medical name for everything.. The devil is wicked
DeleteSo sad.
ReplyDeleteSuch a young man,Rip
ReplyDeleteMay the deceased rest in peace and may God comfort his family and loved ones. Amen
ReplyDeleteSo sad... Police will never fail to disappoint.. But what if it was a murder case.
ReplyDeleteDon't be too quick to pontificate or judge the deceased harshly. You can condemned his actions yet remain empathetic or, at least, sympathetic. Suicide is never the right solution but you shouldn't dismiss someone else's story or life's journey, especially when you have no idea of their struggles.
ReplyDeleteDo you know what it feels like to be utterly hopeless? I mean to feel absolutely devoid of hope? Do you have the slightest concept of what people labouring under the affliction of mental illness go through? Do you know how persuasive and overpowering the spirit behind suicide is? Perhaps you've gone through your fair share of hard knocks and you survived, that experience ought to humble you and not make you arrogant enough to speak ill of people who are less strong. Our thresholds for adversity vary, what kills someone may make another stronger. You, who feels justified to judge, may be totally knocked out by an event that someone else may take in stride.
You may feel you are mentally and emotionally balanced and would NEVER attempt suicide, but can you say the same about ALL your family members and loved ones? I bet the young man's father hadn't the slightest inclination that his son was suicidal until it was too late. God forbids it happens to a person you loved dearly and you also were blindsided by the suicide, would you want excoriation or sympathy?
Some people came dangerously close to suicide but are alive today by God's grace and the timely intervention and encouragement from friends and family. Perhaps, if someone had been around to counsel and encourage him the day he committed suicide, he may still be alive, who knows? While we raise our voices in unison to condemn the act of suicide, let's show sympathy for the lost souls, please.
Thank you Ronalda.
DeleteMost of these judgemental people go to church and learn nothing
Thank you ma’am.
DeleteThey always quick to type harsh words to those who died by suicide. Saying they are adults and they know better.
What about kids that kills themselves due to bullying...what do they know? Feelings can’t be linked to age or what one knows.... at times we can’t explain how we feel...but we know we feel something.
I don’t know.... I just wish people are kinder or something.
O my God!
DeleteWell said Ronalda. You are a very intelligent and articulate human. Compassionate too. I wish I could meet you in person. Your friends must be very lucky to hang around a wise person such as you. Thanks for explaining it so aptly. Even Job prayed for death when during his trial. He didn't kill himself but for God's grace...
DeleteIt is so sad I got to know about this boy's whereabout through his death. We grew up together and he was really quiet and respectful. RIP to the dead and to those contemplating suicide, please think of the burden on your loved ones, remember there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
ReplyDeleteThanks ma for your words of encouragement
DeleteSo sad!!!! Why did you have to go this way? You did not even pity the father you are dropping suicide note for. How do you think he would cope burying his son in? You should have sought for help than ending it..
ReplyDeleteThis is really sad.
ReplyDeleteSuicide should never be the option, God has plans for our lives and we ought to fulfil it.maybe God wanted to test him as they say, he should have endured whatever he was going through,I know it's not easy but he should have endured,And God would have definitely surprised him.Rip
ReplyDeleteOnly God knows what actually happened..... My heart bleed. A lots of people are Soo frustrated π π‘ππ ☹️π‘ in life. Oh Lord comfort the parents.
ReplyDeleteSad sad sad. Life isn't easy.
ReplyDeleteNPF are the most wicked bunch, always thriving on people's misfortune. Cursed lots
