PHCN Official Beaten Blue Black For Distributing Electricity Bills

Was it not reported that the Nigerian Government paid two months electricity for Nigerians to help out with the Coronavirus pandemic...?

Despite knowing this Ayorinde Olajide a staff of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC,was reportedly beaten to until his eyes bled by angry youth on Thursday for distributing electricity bills at Isale Igbeyin/ Grammar School axis of Abeokuta, Ogun State,Nigeria.

Mr Olajide says "I was busy distributing electricity bills to houses when I was attacked by a group of people asking me to stop the unnecessary distributing of bills, and before I could even explain to them they started throwing stones at me which affected my left eye''.

He was beaten and almost stoned to death but for the intervention of his boss who came and rescued him and took him to a nearby hospital where he is presently receiving medical attention.

    1. But the discos made it clear that the FG was owing them from their previous agreement. Until that is sorted out, there is nothing like now paying of bills for 2 months’. Na wa o, so they wanted to kill someone’s father. That’s not fair at all.

    2. There's too much ignorance in Nigeria.

Firstly, the so called "NEPA" has since been privatized. The DISCOs are people's business too.

Secondly, if you refuse to pay the bill, how will the staff of the DISCOs be paid salary?

Thirdly, if you think you don't deserve the bill ask them to disconnect you so you stay in peace. Many people have done it before. You can't use the power and refuse to pay because of lockdown. It's like eating in a restaurant and refusing to pay because of lockdown. Can you go to the market and collect an item without paying?

Ignorance is a very serious illness. Some folks here are even happy the man was beaten. What a people. I pity us

    6. Castle Windsor, yes! I agree with you.

MacBeth, they should have just refused the bill and and not try to kill him. He's human, he has a family who depend on him.

      Black diamond, exactly.

Anonymous 20:32, so, because they don't have money gave them the right to commit murder? They almost killed a harmless man. Do you know what it means to be stoned? They almost stone him to death. What was his crime? And you blame it on hunger and lack of money? How about ignoring him and refuse to take the bill? How about that?

The two months bill relief announcement was for commercial areas and not residential.

  12. Dear Sir, sorry o. I can't even laugh. They didn't beat you well. You have the guts to share bills for this nonsense light you people are giving us in this Abeokuta. You were very lucky. Stupid fellows that have decided not to allow us rest at home this hot lockdown period. You have refused to easily give out prepaid meters so that people can pay for what they are using. Sharing estimated bills like crazy people. Sorry Oga. I sympathise with you.

    1. Of course, FG never made a broadcast that they will cover such. It was NigΓ©rians trying their luck by putting such info out there. I use prepaid and have been subscribing.

FG that is finding it difficult to feed the same people they tax anyhow, they will now pay electricity bills for you. Maybe we are referring to another FG but not this current one.

  16. Why are we like this?
Which Government paid for free electricity? Nothing like that biko. It was mere propaganda.

They have been saying that it's all false. Initially they said they will consult on modalities.
After they said maybe NNPC should offset the bill only for it to end in dead end. Negotiation has even stopped.
We should know electricity has been privatised in Nigeria so how do we get it free?

I live in Lagos and was equally looking forward to this gesture.

Infact I serviced all the A/C in my house to put all on during this period. Only to hear free light is not possible. So why attack innocent workers for doing their job?
This is not fair at all.

    1. Stop defending nonsense. Even Ghana there has free electricity.
Countries that are not giving free electricity are giving money.
